Just bought and read all the Red Robin up on offer on the DC site.

Great to get back into an old favorite (Tim Drake), and though it wasn't a home run, I really liked parts of it. Wasn't a huge fan of the Red Robin costume either, but Marcus To can draw Drake ANYTIME, ANY WAY. :)

Might have to buy all his appearances in Teen Titans now...

Anyone else read it?

I'll watch avengers again and enjoy it for the two of you who are too hipsters to know when the mainstream is right.

I don't wear glasses because I'm nerdcore. I wear them because I have bad eyes.

I don't wear tight shirts because I like dressing like an indie rocker, my shirts are a bit tight because I like eating.

I don't trace Bryan Lee O'Malley and Paul Pope when I draw.

I do not enjoy Punisher Warzone and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance ironically.

I'm mildly beardy because I'm too lazy to shave, not as a facial fashion statement. :P

SIR! I resent these spurious claims.

Yeah, I really liked it as well. Adventure Comics #3 (2009) has a great story with Superboy and Red Robin if you are interested.

The Avengers was great, really enjoyed it. Cap was fun but nothing special. I watched Thor when I got my wisdom teeth out, movie is amazing after you take 3 percocets.

Very interested! But damn, the ease of buying digital online is a little too enabling. I went from buying the first one to see if it was any good, to clicking "Buy It" 27 more times last night. (-_-); I'd much prefer to have them in physical form, but the closest comic shop is prohibitively far, and god help my spending allowance if I actually did make it to Golden Apple.

That said, I might have to buy it... I'm weak (especially to their friendship)!

Which issue is that from?

I was listening to this last night and the only thing I remember is how annoying the host is with his useless interjections:

"Yep!"
"Right!"
"uh-huh"
"Of course!"
"Agreed!"

Just stfu. It's like listening to the play-by-play on an N64 era sports game. I'm guessing there was a delay and he was speaking when he heard a pause but the recording has him talking all over Brubaker on what's already a low quality recording on his end.

Will finish it later, I want to find out what the heck Myspace Comics was.

Haw!

Thinking on it now, I think what the Marvel movie universe lacks are credible villains. Loki's inconsistent power set and general non-threat status meant little to nothing to me as a viewer. Blowing hard on the Cosmic Cube angle didn't help all that much. Not foreshadowing the threat level of the invading alien force didn't help any either, and I could see why some viewers felt the ending was a bit random.

So basically at no point during watching the Avengers did I feel the Earth was in grave danger. Even Green Lantern managed to sell the threat of Parallax to Earth better than the Avengers did with Loki and the Cosmic Cube. :\

Thanos? Still not sold on that ponce of a Darkseid ripoff. Mehvel zombies tell me he's like Darkseid, yeah if Darkseid had nuts for a chin and a penchant for dressing in gold lamé. :|

The Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon did the whole thing with 616, Ultimate, Skull, Hydra, Asgard stuff much, much better and it didn't have a shitty dudebro Hawkeye.

My buddy's pal kept lamenting the lack of War Machine, and honestly they need to build up Rhodey more in the Iron Man flicks before I begin to give a shit. He's a completely one dimensional character in the movies due to poor writing and bad pacing. If we spent more time on Rhodes learning to use the armor and being a stand-in for drunkard Tony instead of setting up The Avengers in Iron Man 2 - it would have been a much better flick and made me want more War Machine.

Michael Jai White as Luke Cage and Peter Mensah as Black Panther would be awesome, but only if they could make Avengers 2 fun to watch. No more wasting Captain America's potential for pulling levers guys. :|

Now that you point it out, I agree.

They should have kept the old origin, in which Cap didn't have any damn choice.

Y'know, I loved Avengers but you're bang on the money with pretty much every point there. Cognitive dissonance tickles.

If you think that is a good action movie you need to watch more films.

TTOB's points aside, the action in this film is literally the best I've ever seen. Hulk jumping up the side of the building, the crashing helicarrier scene, that tracking shot (the Iron Man lazer bouncing off Cap's sheild was a nice touch I missed in the theatre). It was thrilling in the truest sense of the word.

Should I keep following The Justice League after I came out dissapointed by the #0?

No.

The new Teen Titans stuff is super weak IMO and it's certainly not the same Tim character that was in Red Robin. RR was a really classy old school super hero book and yeah, Marcus To was so good, I would worry every issue that it would be his last. All his characters are so attractive - it's not something I usually like, but it's just so pleasing to look at. He did great hair and eyes. Very cute girls. Hell, cute boys too. If you like the tone of this book you might well like the original Robin series (the ongoing). Starts off with Tom Grummett on art which was ok but soon Mike Weiringo came on and it was a really great run for a little while. If you like Tim Drake and breezy teen super heroics, you might well love this.

It kind of falls of a cliff in the #30s when Ringo left - he was replaced by an artist that drew Tim like creepy white Michael Jackson and the book lost a lot of its charm for a while.

Comic shops are that rare down there D:

How unfortunate :(

Marcus To was awesome on it. I loved this and Batgirl that was going at the same time...and hell I think most of the batbooks were godlike for me for those 2 and a half? years

I'll read Inferno now, just to make you happy. ;****
Love ya, bandit. Don't let the darkness take over.

I'd heard rumor about this, but was hoping there might be a bit more substance to the series. I'm kind of loathe to burn another $50+ on a so-so run. Still somewhat tempted, though. I love the Robin character, especially as Tim Drake and I'm hungry for more stuff featuring him. Can you recall anything he's been in besides TT lately that'd be worth a go?

And Marcus To... Man, he really captures it. His Drake is perfect. Especially for :O scenes like when... how does one put this delicately?
Well, when Tim is basically a hair away from being raped to create a super baby. Yep.

They handled it well (though neither he nor anyone else seemed to really acknowledge it after), but pretty a pretty ballsy episode considering Tim is only 17 years old.

Great face, though (borrowed from someone's tumbler):

I haven't seen any down here yet, and certainly not within walking/biking distance, but maybe there's one in the mall?

He's sooooooo good. Very godlike. I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for him in the future.

rare where?

The South Bay area. All the good ones I used to go to are up north in LA proper. :(

I love new Stark, beats Civil War Stark *shudder*

I watched Captain America again on netflix streaming and the ending still bothers me.
Couldn't he have taken it to the open waters and waited for it to run out of gas then jump? Or taken it somewhere where shield could shoot it out of the sky over the sea? Or i dunno, a bunch of things that weren't incredibly quick decisions to kill yourself? It's like Cap WANTED to die for America so badly that he didn't bother thinking of any other solutions, but tanking the plane was the ONLY thing worth doing

im sure he could've tried an exit if it werent so big a plane...i dunno never crashed a giant bomber on purpose have you?

Shield wasnt around during WW2 btw.

I agree with takeout it should've been like the original but i guess they wanted him to talk to carter ...meh her never knowing what happened is better imo.

I think it's Siuntres's background as a radio guy. I'm used to it, the only time I get annoyed is when he drops the ball on art questions or not properly interviewing an artist, but he's not an "art guy" by his own admission.

Which is why I listen to Sidebar. :3

Haw!

I really enjoyed Avengers. It was a good comic book movie, but it wasn't a good action movie.

Cap used all his superhero powers to pull that lever bro! A Shield technician totally could not have done that. :P

Just finished watching two Bill Burr comedy specials on Netflix. Time to read some comics.

Predator is still boss!

Justice League 0 was the Shazam origin story right?

Did you read any of the other Justice League books, because Shazam was at the end of a bunch of Justice League books, and the books themselves were really good.

I loved Justice League 0 because I was infatuated with Shazam....and now im even more infatuated with the Trinity of Sin and their ties to the Wizards or whoever those dudes with lighting bolts are.

Man the new 52 is entertaining me alot more than i thought it would.

aww you do have a flaw...

South Bay is the San Jose area to me :P
I think that too.

Yeah it's the Shazam one. I got the #0 issues, thinking they would be rebooted origin stories for each series/character, so I just picked up the ones that I'm interested in and will continue the series with the trades/singles if I end up liking them. I haven't read any of the other Justice League issues. Though I'll admit, out of all the #0 issues I picked up, Justice League was the weakest. I guess I didn't like how the kid started using his powers irresponsibly, but I guess kids would do that. I'm willing to follow it if it does pick up later and you said it does, so I'm interested.

Justice League Dark was bit better, maybe it's just because of Zatanna being there. I was recommended to continue that when Jeff Lemire starts writing for it.

Most of the #0 issues I picked up were pretty good. I only had problems with The Justice League and maybe Teen Titans since it was just a Red Robin origin book, but it's a new story to me, just dissapointed that it was just about him.

aww you do have a flaw...

Just cowl part, CY. I'm used to seeing his hair.
I love his hair! ;_;

And, I had no idea you read comics, too. +100pts!

Red Robin does got a weird costume I can't help but think Dr. Mid-Nite. Wish Drake would have kept a domino mask.

The rest of it was cool (especially with Alfred's adjustments), but I laughed at the Dr. Mid-Nite jab they threw in when he first returned to Gotham as Red Robin.

So now that the Alpha stuff is over, good time to jump into ASM? Anything I'd really have to know beforehand?

It's speculation that it's going to relaunch after 700. So if you want a real jumping on point, that will start in January. But this next issue is a new arc if you just want a spidey story.

So not a guaranteed relaunch? How reliable are the rumors?

I'll jump in anyway, love Spidey.

Last week's stuffs:

Aquaman: Good issue. Set up nicely for the next Atlantis arc. Gonna be weird going from that back to the Others tho.

Animal Man: Haven't read A. Man in a minute, but with Rotword happening, figured I'd jump back in. I like the use of Buddy's original origin.

ASM: Pretty anit-climatic end. Especially when it leaves the door open for Alpha to come back. To be honest, I don't know if Slott's Spidey is for me anymore. I suppose I caqn stick it out till issue 700, what with its OMGWTFBBQ reveal.

Captain Marvel: This issue didn't do much for me. Book is so hit and miss thus far.

Picked up DC: The New Frontier and the first two volumes of the current TMNT series in this weekend's comicology sale. Gonna see what those lookin' like.

Comics GAF, do y'all remember the New Muties/ Legacy crossover Age of X by Mike Carey? That was my shit. I ordered the hardcover recently and I'm loving it. Clay Mann's redesigns = sex. Dazzler has never looked better, and tbh, probably never will. If you have not read this, do it now.

Yesssssssssssssssssss!

All the time.

Nice! I used to be really into X-Men a couple of years ago, but stopped hardcore collecting after the Onslaught arc. I've got all the Death of Superman/the very awesome Reign of the Supermen, but then I jumped to Image stuff (Wildcat/Gen13/DV8) and kind of stopped collecting. Robin/Batman stuff is a rare treat and I do have the odd off issue of The Walking Dead and DMZ, but, man, it's been awhile.

So can I take it that you've read the entire Red Robin arc? What did you think? And, any recommendations? I'm rekindling the hobby a bit as long as it sticks within my budget.
