I 3-starred every level! I didn't like angry birds at all but this game's excellent. The combination of platforming and creating your own car/plane/helicopter/rocket is something that I think is about to become a lot more popular now thanks to this game.

There is randomness involved on certain levels (doing something will work only like 50% of the time) but since the levels only last a matter of seconds once you know how to build your vehicle and what to do it's not that frustrating (and it is realistic). One unrealistic thing about the physics is that buoyancy decreases if you're touching something! Seriously Rovio, wtf?? Fortunately this doesn't affect the game much. Everyone should get this.

Good for you, man. I love the game but I think the difficulty spikes really early. Some of these puzzles really have me stumped!

Ok two questions.

If I want to update an app from my computer (since space is low on my iPad) I download the app in iTunes and then...?

How do I get save data off of an app, in case I want to delete it and come back later.

Really bugs me that in Bad Piggies you have to earn the three stars on separate runs instead of all at once. It feels like cheating.
I like it the way it is. The way it's designed you have to build one vehicle to, say, get to one particular star, and another completely different vehicle to finish the level in under 20 seconds or get to a different star or not use a particular part that makes it easy. It's part of what makes the game so great.

Edit: on some levels it's possible to get all 3 stars in one go

Played about 3-4 hours of The Last Express today and I'm really enjoying it. I'm an adventure game fan but I've never played it before, and the atmosphere is awesome. The game is in real time taking place entirely (thus far) on a train and I love the fact that as I'm eavesdropping in on a conversation or having dinner with someone I know that other people are talking and interacting elsewhere and I'm missing out on it. It makes me really look forward to replaying the game.

Yeah, I've done exactly the same today, spent at least a couple of hours on it and had a great time. The voice acting is really pretty good and there's a lot of intrigue in there. I wonder how much variation there is in how it plays out - a lot of the time it feels like there are only a couple of options for stuff I can do, and the conversations being simple cutscenes means that I can't see where the branching paths are. Which I guess is good in that it's fairly seemless, I think if I were to play it again I would have to do it very differently. Like not chucking the body out of the window at the start, that could really change it up. No idea who the killer is yet though...

You either sync the apps through iTunes, which is done by clicking on your device in iTunes and going to the apps tab, then checking the box to sync apps. Though keep in mind that this will replace your phone apps with whatever you have in iTunes, so only do this if you have all your apps in your iTunes library (either by transferring them from your device, or downloading them.)

The other (simpler) option would be to download the app in iTunes, then install it using iFunBox. No syncing required.

As for your app data, use iFunBox, and navigate to the 'documents' folder inside your desired app, and make a copy of it on your PC. Sometimes you need to back up the 'library' folder too, so I usually back up both just in case. Note that no jailbreak is necessary for this.

Really? That's what kills the game for me. Half the fun would be designing something that can get everything.

I wouldn't mind it at all if it gave you one objective per run, it's just the way all three objectives are there but some of them are impossible to do together. The nature of a three-star rating system makes it feel like objectives should ALWAYS be possible to do together, and so I feel like I'm cheating when I'm doing more than one run.

I feel like I haven't found the perfect solution, even though half the time there's probably no perfect solution to find.

Thanks! I'll finally be able to update Nova 3.

Been craving a game with a good story on the go. Any recommendations for rpg with a decent story?

Cthulhu saves the World is a fun RPG that plays like old-school jrpgs.

Avadon is a good isometric RPG that reminds me of old infinity engine games (iPad-only.)

Have you played any of the square enix RPGs on iOS? If not, there's chaos rings series, twewy, and the various final fantasy ports.

How could you do a speed run of a level and also go out of your way to get tricky to reach stars or skulls at the same time? That couldn't work in any game. Seeing as how the game is so good, try accepting it for what it is.

I just got all the skulls so I've now 100%ed it. Has anyone else finished it? I'm looking forward to the updates.

Wimp Who Stole My Panties verdict: Over-the-f***-hyped! It's good, but damn, the way the TA forum was gushing, you'd have thought Nintendo had published their first iOS platformer. Not even close...

Well, everything worth a salt is overhyped at TA. That said, I think Wimp is good enough to get some attention. It's not the best platformer on the AppStore, but it's fun and polished.

I just ordered my mother an iPod Touch as a gift. She's a word puzzle fan, a Tetris addict, and generally loves puzzles of all kinds, especially if they're shiny. She's not really into action-oriented stuff at all, but loves music. I have my own list of stuff to buy for her before giving it to her, but I'd be very interested in the puzzle gaming must-have lists of some of you without sticking my own oar in :)

Spelltower is my absolute favorite iOS word game, I highly recommend it.

Blockoban is the best puzzle game on iPhone.
WordFeud is the best free Scrabble game.
SpellTower, as mentioned, is awesome, probably the best word puzzle.
WordJong, because if SpellTower is the best then this is definitely the second best.
Enscripted, then, would be the third best.
Tetris is horrendous, don't let her download that.
Marblenauts
Save Toshi DX is lovely
Trainyard
Triple Town, kind of
Scribblenauts (words!)
Slice It!
Pathpix is a fantastic drawing-style puzzle
ORBITAL
Cat Physics and...
Cave Bowling, which are both excellent Donut games.
Cut the Rope, obviously.

You say she doesn't like action-oriented stuff but that's exactly what Tetris is, so you could try Zookeeper (and Zookeeper Battle) and ZONR, which might be up her street.

I read this list and wept.

It is missing Drop7.

For everyone with God of Blades (which I'm hopelessy in love with, more on that later) who feel like a little Sherlock Holmes and do not read TA, know that this website:

gobshrine.com

is a 'riddle' website...which let you unlock a very powerful new sword inside the game.
Nobody has solved the riddle yet, but on TA they are very close.

After having played it for almost 2 days no stop, I can say the game is freaking amazing.
Eternal mode is where the real meat of the game is, and it's fantastic.
It's so tense and hectic!!!
And I do not even like 'runners' games.
I spent lot of time with each sword...every one has its plus and cons, and they really feel pretty different and force different playstyles.
You can tell if a sword is heavy or light just by playing two swings...very well done.
At first I was using just the default sword, Inferna, and I made it past 500K but now Darkstar and Starwind are growing on me...one because is the only one that let you regain HP (cool little soul worms 'eat' your enemy and if you wait and parry long enough they will 'feed' you), the other because it's slighlty longer so I can keep away enemies, and when you activate the magic power it's damn powerful against bosses.

I know the first 2 worlds are damn easy, and seeing a video of those makes the game just a 'swipe away' easy thing but, belive me, it's not.
Trying to mantain a 25X multiplier after wave 10, bosses included, is damn tense and satisfying.
Games are relatively short too...and the game is absolutely stunning to look at (multiply it x10 if you love sci fi '70 fantasy cover books and spent your youth drooling over those, like myself).

The loreseeker metagame is awesome too btw (you unlock 3 more swords by PHYSICALLY visiting a Library, using foursquare).

Was really a nice surprise, I even stopped to play my all time favorite adventure (The Last Express).
I know the game has been controversial, but if you have bought it and dismissed as 'dull' or 'boring' after the first world, play it a bit more and try Eternal (bosses are procedurally generated too).

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry :(

I just went through the apps I still had on my phone. I've never rated Drop7 as much as other people, and as soon as it went Zynga I had no problem deleting it.

It's only "a Zynga game" as far as forcefully putting the Zynga branding on the icon/menu. I'm fairly sure the devs of the game had in their contract clause that Zynga couldn't fuck with the game, which thankfully has remained true. It's still the very same game as before. It actuall improved since the aquisition, it got updated for retina display and had bugs fixed. (Would love if it had GC integration instead of it's propietary leaderboard system though, oh and 4" display res. :P)

i know this isn't the most popular genre on gaf, but with so many shitty korean action rpgs on the market, any stand out to be good?

Personally I *LOVED* Crimson Gem Saga, despite the problematic skill tree controls in the char stats screen.
Other than that, it's head and shoulders above the rest of the offering imho (and one of the best RPG on the appstore for quite a long time).
Unfortunately, as far as I know, it doesn't work anymore on iOS 5 or 6 (crash on combat) and it's been forever since last update.
I completed the game before iOS5, but now I think people are pretty screwed.

Not sure how long it's been on sale for but Tiger Woods 12 is the App of the Week and is free. At least, the iPad version is, I assume the iPhone version will be free too.

I have CG Saga on Vita and have enjoyed it for the most part =p
EDIT: What're some good racing games on iPhone? I'm thinking of gettig Sonic & SEGA All-stars racing, is it good?

Hey, new high score on the store version of Super Monsters Ate My Condo. This was my second game this morning - I'm sure I can beat this.

Finally got into iOS gaming(Because of CAVE)But man, there are some amazing titles there. The Incident and Contre Jour are my babies :-) Any more games like those two? And what are the great music games for iOS? Groove Coaster seems alright, but not sure. And PewPew2 looks amazing....

My mother loves Scrabble, Boggle, crosswords and Sudoku so word games really appeal to her.

Most of her games are gifts from me as she finds the App store a bit daunting -- too much choice!

Out of all the games I've gifted her, the games she's hooked on the most are:

W.E.L.D.E.R -- this is her favourite because it's quite challenging and has a lot of different letter swapping mechanics
Bookworm
Wurdle
Quarrel DX
Spelltower
Bejeweled
Big Bad Sudoku Book
Cryptograms

and she also enjoys completely destroying me at Words with Friends.

I thought she might like Pixelogic or Oh! Cube, but she found the controls of Oh! Cube too fiddly. Any kind of game or app with fiddly controls / poor UI she ditches almost immediately.

ETA: I haven't found a decent Tetris yet. But, for a Tetris like game, Unify is very good. It's by the same developer who made Spelltower.

I'm digging Bad Piggies. I also bought that Gameloft Batman game and I have no fucking idea why.

If you have an iPad, you can play The Incident using an iPhone as a controller and the iPad as the screen. Pointless but fun.

There are a smattering of 'Best of iOS' threads around, you should check 'em out.

Is it the third person free-roaming game The Dark Knight Rises? It isn't good?

I'm considering it alongside The Last Express and FIFA 13.

Seems to be a 3rd person action adventure, although I only played the first level. I don't know if it's good or bad to be honest, I just can't fathom why I bothered buying it. I have an immense backlog and a Gameloft console-style game using a virtual stick just ain't going to cut into it.

69p though. 69p. It really ain't worth sweating.

Whenever you're contemplating buying a gameloft game, you totally should do it. Make sure you play it then come back and tell us all how mediocre and pointless it was. And then do it again in three months time. Rinse repeat. Rinse repeat.

If you have an iPad, jukebeat/jubeat plus are pretty much the pillar of the music game genre on iOS. Fun, challenging, and has by far the largest number of available songs (only ReRave comes close). Groove Coaster is solid too, as is osu!stream. Hearing pretty good things about DJ MAX R (it's new, haven't had a chance to try myself yet).

Cytus is a good example of a nice idea and great music licenses bogged down by terrible execution. Tone Sphere looks cool but too often puts style above gameplay, with frustrating results.

Nah, I really ought to start antagonistically gifting 'em to you. Far more entertaining.

The Dark Knight Rises isn't that bad, the missions/levels are boring nonsense but it's actually pretty fun just to have a big open world gotham to wander around and beat up random criminals.

I think the "omg I am Batman in a open world Gotham" aspect makes up for the medicore gameplay, at least at the sale price I got it at.

The only Gameloft games I've enjoyed to some capacity are Dungeon Hunter 2, Asphalt 6 (only one I've played in that series) and Order & Chaos. The latter being a very competent and now free to play mobile MMO. The rest of Gameloft's repertoire has been absolute garbage.

I'm not giving TDKR a pass either because the game is cheap and some aspects are mediocre at best. There are a ton of great indie games on IOS that don't get as much recognition, and gameloft tripe muddies its way to the top of the charts. Can't wait for the day when they are held to higher standards.

That's a good way to describe it. The combat is actually pretty fun. I didn't realize at first you could hold the jump button to vault over guarding enemies and then break their stance. And like the Arkham games, you can spam, but it's not nearly as effective as chaining attacks right as you hear the hit sound.

Again, it's a guilty pleasure game. I'm enjoying it. The missions get more interesting the further into it you go, and not everything is by the numbers. You have to keep an eye out for snipers and all that on your way to objectives. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did GTAIII on my phone.

Played Soul of Darkness? That was a very competent Castlevania clone.
