Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Exactly, you said the sales would increase 100 fold if it becomes homebrew-able.

He didn't say sales. He meant his own personal enjoyment.

The ability to run content the device wasn't designed for sure helped the Xperia Play, didn't it? Huge success that was for Sony ...

so for future reference, in order to gain access to the exploit, usermode or otherwise, you would need to upgrade to the newer firmware and get the game off psn in order to run it
how would this work if let's say, the exploit is on fw 1.7x, the current fw os 1.8x, and my vita's fw is 1.6x
in order to access the game on psn, you need to upgrade to the latest, which means you cant run it anymore

Mkay, now I might get a Vita, this way I can play imports :)

You could play imports before any hacks. This isn't the 3DS. The only issue you'd have is with things requiring PSN access like Online Play, and DLC. A physical game card from Japan will work on a North American unit, etc.

Eeeeerroooo?? Well then, I grossly misunderstood the situation....possible Vita sale plus 1!

Without needing multiple memory cards I'm guessing.

yup, you can earn any region trophies on your account, but you'll be stuck without any kind of DLCs (I don't know about game updates).

So if you have Gravity Rush JAP/US you could earn both trophies separated, but you'll be able to use just the US DLCs.

If this means I can play my Crisis Core on a Vita then I am highly tempted. Not just for one game but it's one of the many UMD games I still own that I have backed up.

it would be cool in my book if they just hack the PSP emulator so i can get some homebrews and psp games, and the PSvita part stays safe.

it seems like that is already happening so sweet. few years down the right for the vita part would be idea as well.

How would homebrew games be different to PSM games, except for not having to pay for them?

Emulators mostly. The ability to do everything the PSP does like full speed NES, Genesis, Neogeo, PS1, and more plus hopefully better SNES, N64, and MAME support on a better screen. And if you want to get really crazy, maybe even Saturn and DC support.

Like a museum of gaming history on one machine.

Everything you can do on every electronic device out there, then? :P

Buy a new piece of Sony hardware, play the same old Nintendo, and PS1 and Sega games *aswell.

Lol.

ftfy..

I posted in the vita thread, I'm pretty convinced the post on wololo was litigation cover..

I'm sure we'll see a 1.82 soon, maybe before the files are "cracked".

Don't know why people question wanting to homebrew on new devices. This screen and dpad are better than any handheld I've ever seen, it's a better experience than the countless other homebrew able devices. As long as they keep releasing superior hardware, people will never tire of home brewing the shit out of it.

So all this hype, and all we have is video of a hacked PSP emulator.
WOW!
The PSP was hacked years ago. Why is this getting so much discussion?

Thread title should be changed to "Custom PSP emulator running on PS Vita via PSP game exploit".

Honestly, I really hope this doesn't happen to the Vita because it needs all the help it can get, in order to survive and grow it's user base.

I understand there are lots of people out there that'll never stop thinking "I OWN IT, I CAN DO WHAT I WANT WITH IT BARRRGRGHRHHRGRLRG" but still, blowing open a devices security framework in the name of homebrew will just open other avenues, like the infamous piracy that plagued the Vita.

I like the idea of getting a custom browser that can actually play embedded videos and support flash and HTML5, but I also don't want to see the Vita's chance at growing be eroded by constant negative PR due to piracy and security patches. It seems the main argument is people wanting to play any old game they want on a superior handheld, when the means of doing so can easily lead to scaring developers off the platform. I just don't think it's worth it, but that's just me.

From 20 minutes ago on youtube from the encrypted file leaker:

Im sorry! Because of my recent actions, im really, no TRULY SORRY about Cold Bird's departure from his Non illegal Playstation hacking job.
Im so sorry, im going to make a video apologizing.

-youtube link

I dunno what to make of it all. Seems pretty elaborate if it was all preplanned..

note he capitalised the N too.

LOL the comments!

You don't say..they are pretty...harsh lol.

Tbh it may be paranoia but considering geohot's troubles with Sony and since they mention that vita cfw was working I wouldn't be surprised if this sam guy was willing to take a temporary hit to his reputation in order to release the files in a way that prevents anyone for really being responsible in the same way geohot was.. The excuses in the blog posts, the detail, the drama and even wishing sony good luck in preventing the hack and homebrew. Lol I don't know, I mean, good for them if it is the case I guess..

For the moment I'm not too worried, the Vita needs a few features yet, (through firmware) and access to the psn network is more important then with the PSP so I'm betting for a while most people will still upgrade, even if vita iso files become a thing.

Lmao this guy deserves a medal. Hope the Sony ninjas track down those pricks living in their mothers' basements and slap them with a big fat lawsuit. Again, I understand a lot of people out there want this for homebrewing, I just don't think the risk is worth it - i.e. eroding what developer support is left because the Vita is struggling right now.

Yeah, I really hope that international mega-corporation slaps a huge lawsuit on, and effectively ruins the lives of those guys who don't own their own apartments, all because they were talented and intelligent enough to reverse-engineer a powerful new piece of hardware. Now that would be justice.

You seem to have a very narrow and selective definition of "developer support".

Are you fucking serious? I honestly can't tell.

This kind of corporate cheerleading is almost scary in how zealous it is.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Supporting the wrong team for the wrong reasons.

I think you are misunderstanding the situation. This guy technically made piracy on the Vita publicly possible.

That doesn't match the rest of your statement where it seems you are against piracy. In parallel you seem to imply that the people who were working on this thing secretly for their own personal interest should be sued. You know that privately tinkering with devices you own is legal in most countries, right? It's releasing the information (what that guy did) that can be illegal

It seems you are confused with what actually happened here.

those pricks living in their mothers' basements
I wonder where this is coming from. It's not the 20th century anymore, where being proficient with computers was reserved to nerdy kids. Most hackers I know have a family life, are successful in both their private and professional life, and I could bet I live further from my mom's basement than you do :)

You mean just like Sony has ruined the life of "geohot", by making a deal with him and dismissing all charges, so that he didn't had to pay one dollar to Sony, despite almost ruining the whole company with 170.000 employees? Yeah, Sony is really evil.

How did geohot come even close to ruining the whole company? Are you serious?

Huh, didn't know wololo posted here. Thanks for running possibly the only good PSP news site. lol

Shame about all the drama, though. I find it sort of weird that the homebrew/hacking scene does generate a lot of drama, but I guess that's a side effect of one person doing something for fun/as a hobby that millions of people around the world are extremely interested in and will use and abuse.

I would love to be able to play the games that I have on UMD on the Vita without buying them again. I hope by the time I do get a Vita, things move along okay.

I just want to play birth by sleep on my vita... and crisis core... sony does not give me the option to purchase them, so... i'll do what I have to do.

I need my D-pad and buttons and dat screen.

i highly recommend the Dingoo A320 for all emulator purposes, it even runs Duke3D! :D

Yeah because 170.000 employers are endangered by geohot actions and not by awful choices of the company

smh

then he'll just say he need that oled screen, or 2 analog stick, or something else...

Such as more processing power for better applications and more accurate emulation.

I have a dingoo and the SNES emulation is far from ideal. On the vita it would be close to perfect.

Strawmen everywhere.

I never said that Sony was evil, I said they were an international mega corporation. Where the fuck did you pull that out of?

The fact that this happened to geohot isn't some guarantee that the same would happen to every hacker that sony brought a lawsuit against. When big corporations "slap a lawsuit" against some isolated civilian living by modest means, that person usually ends up eating shit to at least some degree, so I'm not sure what the fuck you think you're trying to prove here.

Yeah, fuck CFW. Let's kill a console, because we're tight bastards. Why don't you just buy the games? You know, show some support?

I know, I know, there is more to CFW than running cracked ISO's, but let's be honest, that's the main reason. Then people complain that they stop supporting the platform.

*shrugs*
