for real though, letting that Ryan talking point on billions from medicare slide made no sense - romney knows he's down in my home state and other swing ones, should've stayed on that during the 5th rebuttal or whatever

Romney managed to look like Obama's equal up there, and that's all he needed to do. He won the debate.

This. I think Obama gave it to him to be honest. Perhaps the strategy is to take the latter debates and really pound Romney then. If not, I can't fathom why he would go for blood about the "47%" comments and shit like that.

So either Barry has no fucking clue or he intentionally went soft on this one and plans to go balls deep in the latter bouts.

GAF's memory is short. Everyone, media included, gave McCain the first debate until the snap polls came in.
No one but the internet wants to see argumentative Obama, the people who haven't been paying attention until now don't like him that way. they like Professor Obama even when the pundits don't. Just like they loved Professor Bill at the convention.
I don't know if they love Professor Obama, but they certainly do hate Angry Obama.

He did fine, given those handicaps. Hmms and umms didn't help.

Pundits tend to suck at judging debates.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
I would like to point out how much the University of Denver sucks. Overpriced, mediocre education, bastion of rich kids who couldn't hack it in the larger state schools, but could make up for it overblown tuition.

Romney's strategy is also brilliant. Positioning himself as a nonpartisan will swing some independent voters. Facts are irrelevant in presidential debates. He knows he can say literally anything and get away with it.

Yeah but someone needs to call him out on it. It doesn't work when the opponent is going "umm...uhhh...." and trying to remember what he wants to say.

sorry GAF, Romney won this. He was on the offensive, even if he was slinging bullshit. Obama was just lackadaisical and sitting back.

And expect the Ryan/Biden debate to swing towards Ryan.

Is Romney winning with anyone in Ohio or Florida tonight though?

Vouchers. From his lips.

Nope. I don't think any swing states will change, as most were already for Obama. And he needs like all of them to be competitive.

Like I said, a good comparison is the E3 threads. Who "won" E3 didn't win the sales.

Problem with that is Obama did lose the debate this time. Any pretty much everyone but the staunchest supporters are saying he got beat tonight.

nah, i thought he walked that one back and avoided it like the plague. obamas stayed on it but he distanced himself as best he could, got into the middle east and whatever else he could though

It's hilarious. Every single debate Obama has been in since running for president has shaped up like this, whether it was against Hillary, McCain, and now Romney.

"Obama is too timid."

"He needs to go in for the kill."

"He's taking too long to speak."

"Too much like a professor."

"Why does he keep stuttering?!"

"His demeanor sucks!"

A few snap-polls later: "Obama is so great omg."

ABC praising Romney. Dumb fucks. They even have the nerve to say he answered with a level of detail that wins him President.

While Romney avoided details as usual, he did much better than I expected. He was convincing enough to appear confident and Obama's equal, which is what he needed to do tonight. I wouldn't say Romney won the debate, but this will certainly help him more than it will hurt. So in that regard, it was a good night for Mitt. Surprisingly.

debates are largely about appearance and expectation, and PBS just quoted a figure that somewhere around the neighborhood of 2:1 that Obama was the favorite to out-debate Romney.

Regardless of what side you're on, I don't think that happened, Romney was very aggressive and did well in terms of presentation. That alone is a big argument for a "win" in his column.

Now, whether or not he gets eviscerated by fact checkers as the week goes on, that's another story.

Honestly it was like Obama forgot this was a debate where you respond to what the other person says ...

That is a confusing comment. If anything, it was Romney that was just saying whatever he wanted and lacked all kinds of specifics, even when directly asked about specifics. For instance, what exactly is Romney's healthcare plan?

What The Daily Beast just said rings true: it'll be just be like Ryan's convention speech: loved on the spot, torn to pieces by fact checkers over the following days.

I do think Obama was way underaggressive IMO.

As an outsider Romney came off as a confident, bullying liar and Obama came off as a stuttering cowered who simply spurted his party's rhetoric unsuccessfully rather than attacking the blatant flaws in his opponents debate. Neither came off as a winner to me.

You guys love declaring winners and losers in a debate because it's like taking sides or supporting sports teams or something.

The reality is that there was nothing in this debate that really is likely to swing votes one way or another IMO.

Oh jeez, Team Obama is going to "experiment" with Biden for this next debate, aren't they? That'll be real hoot.

I am an Obama supporter and a voter.

I think Romney won the debate.
I feel like Obama was rambling, speaking in broken sentences and seemed to be nervous.
I feel like he made a few verbal mistakes that made it seem like he wanted to pass the torch. Like subtly giving advice at points.

Romney kept interrupting but he's an alpha.

This was kind of the Romney show huh.

Either way Romney came off good and I knew he would.

'Cmon Barack. Bring it next time.

Does America think Romney was at all sincere though?

Americans are stupid, and we don't, as a whole, care about facts. People will listen to Rush Limbaugh, Fox, Daily show, and get their prepared information that will tell them what they need to know.

Romney lied the entire debate, and had absolutely no plan.. It will not matter. As the Right will enjoy a victory of putting that _________ in his place, how strong Romney is, and oh yeah..

Religion.

Romney did very well.
