Really, this is what it boils down to:

M37Ac.jpg

Romney just kept hitting the same points over and over until Obama had to throw off the cool for a bit.

For most of the debate, it looked like Romney was about to cry although he did sound confident (I guess, fake it till you make it).

Obama lost this debate as much as I hate to admit. He shouldn't have talked too much about Obamacare and made hits to Romney (by the 47%, Bain, etc.)

yeah I kept waiting for Romney's voice to crack and tear up but it didn't happen :(

Romney is unlikable and you all know it because you follow politics. There are millions of people who got their first full dose of Romney tonight, and it was a Heisenberg level hit of full-on smarmy bullshit and rudeness.
Obama went on yet another of his explain-a-thons and looked like the adult in the room again. This is what he does. He's the same guy no matter whatever else is going on, and it drives his opponents (and supporters!) nuts.
Uninformed America didn't see what GAF saw. Uninformed America just got sold a '93 Grand Am and was told it was really a Lexus. In a few hours they're going to realize what they drove home and get pissed about it.

ding ding ding

Obama's Obama.

Post vid? I have to see this

#dead

They were covering a hurricane/tropical storm and he was trying to get in touch with a reporter down there. They couldn't get ahold of him so he kept telling the audience that the car was on interstate whatever heading south or south-west. He somehow managed to keep it going for a few minutes before they got in touch with the reporter.

Lol, man. The mood swing in this thread is like nothing I've ever seen before.

Don't worry Obamanites your savior will win.

Romney did absolutely nothing to reverse 99% of the criticisms lobbied at him on a daily basis, and until he does, Obama is 95% guaranteed to win this election. And yes, those percentages are as BS as Romney's comments tonight.
No - but he "performed" much better, and was a solid representative of Obama's critics.

Obama's defense of his record and vision for the future was timid in comparison. I'm with Obama's plans, but he didn't represent his side of the argument as well as he could have.

lol MSNBC is in apocalpse survival mode

It's hilarious.

What Romney needed was a gaffe of any kind, a spot that can be repeated ad nauseum in an ad campaign and be a talking point. I don't think he got it. Obama playing prevent defense tonight made all the sense in the world - as boring and insufferable as that might be to watch.

Romney will get his 1 to 2 points - nearly every challenger gets it after the debate but I don't think theres anything in this debate thats going to matter even 3 days from now.

The meltdowns are hilarious and utterly bizarre at the same time.

I'm seeing pundits overreact more than regular people. They concentrate on the sociology and theater of these exchanges, being invested in the process as a rule.

The talking heads are embarrassing right now.

Romney won the debate by being exactly was Obama is, a moderate right leaning candidate. America politics is fucking weird.

Obama only mentioned that Romney had given no plans somewhere in the second half of the debate, and he was a bit long winded about it. Something like a concise, "once again, you have not given any specifics," and then proceeding with his respinse would be nice.
He only said it directly once (twice?) but he started the debate (and spent some time) explaining why Romney's plan is not really a plan. It is a set of promises without any real-world bearing.

He's not rozay

but even rozay isn't the rozay in your mind tho
i aint mean to mess with your bubble like that though, my bad

This is like Kerry getting destroyed by bush in the debates

oh yeah!
that's why kerry lost in '04, not cause he was, you know, kerry and all

For people thinking these debates don't matter, ask jimmy carter how he was doing in the polls against Reagan before they debated

it's refreshing how relevant that 30+ year old event is to political situations today, i mean it's like you grabbed a 2012 wayne simile and just applied it on history like that you know

i'ma have to let it marinate for a while, like i just had an epiphany and need to go to tiffany's

One last time.

Get a fucking grip.

Do you remember Kerry v. Bush? That shit was like Vietnam for us liberals. You weren't there man. You weren't there. I'm not going to feel safe unless Bams has an 8 point lead in the polls. Mittens was so fired up I thought he was going to tackle Bams and try to give him a haircut after that debate. (That last line is a joke btw)

Obama shouldn't have to go into great details next debate. He should just be giving his time to Romney to explain his crap.

"I've already laid out my plans. Romney WOULD YOU BE SO KIND?"

Christ.

Had to listen to the debate on my phone since I had to work. Ultimately Romney did a lot better than I thought. They really taught him to talk really well, I think. He had a pretty compassionate, soft tone that I think probably went over well with people.

That said, wow, if the American people buy that man's bullshit snake oil, then wow... just wow.

All I know is when political candidates say shit like close loopholes, end this or that, it's all bullshit.

"We're gonna close this one loophole where that one company got a $100,000 exemption! We're going to save five more bucks by stop funding PBS!"

I don't see why this shit isn't called out more. Obama sort of did by saying it doesn't add up, but that's basically the Republican strategy and it amounts to NOTHING in terms of money. You would have to be a fucking uninformed idiot to believe that does anything.

Romney won it.

Obama was too timid, nodded too much when R was speaking, paused and said 'uh' too often, talked about the nitty-gritty too much, basically... had no fire in his belly.

I thought Romney lost the debate. He completely lied about his tax plan and kept regurgitating non-specifics.

Why would you give the debate to someone that more energetically spoke while telling lies?

Obama's race is his biggest hinderance as a politician. He can't appear angry and emotional because of the angry black man syndrome.

I think it was interesting in that Romney showed more fire than he ever has in his life as a public figure, but the way he did it was too much. His constant interrupting of both Jim and Obama, legitimate interrupting and then talking for 5 minutes and not stopping now matter how many times he was told to was a bit ridiculous and tiring. He was too aggressive. He needed to be aggressive, but he went way too far with it.

He also was so vague on everything and wasn't called on it enough. I think Obama will be far less cordial in the next debate and will call Romney on shit as he says it and not let him get away with most of it. Obama needed to be a little more forceful, especially against the over aggressiveness of Romney. But he nailed Romney over and over. It just didn't land as hard because he was so chill about it.

Some of my highlights:

LET'S NOT *crowd snickers*

Romney attacked Obamacare hard, Obama coming back with Romney's plan was the model, to which Mitt replies that it was a great idea when he did it.

Romney talking about repealing whatever financial thing that I didn't know about (Bull something), but then using it as an example of something he could use when he was called on not giving any specifics on how his plan would actually work. But he didn't get called on it by Jim or Obama and that's a shame. That might have been his biggest clear "say whatever sounds best" moment of the night.

Blowing just about every dog whistle available. Obama and welfare (twice, including one in his first or second statement), Reagan, that weird god shit (the whole country believes we're all children of the same god? This was right after he talked about religious freedom and made me instantly uncomfortable), constitution and military might, multiple shots at China. He certainly was getting his points across, even if he wasn't really saying much.

Neither guy were particularly impressive and were both talking in circles. There were a lot of awesome Obama faces that I hope are gif'd. Romney's creepy perma smile was weirding me out hard. There was a face Jim made that was pretty awesome, too. I hope it gets gif'd. I'm interested in seeing the town hall and how awkward Mitt looks when having to interact directly with actual American people on a national stage.

The performance is what matters for most people.

Yes. Get Romney to make some hard choices right there in front of that audience. Corner him and pressure him to show some of the hard calls he'd have to make.

Of course. Bush couldn't even answer basic questions and he still won. The incumbents always have the advantage, especially with a improving economy.
