Hey. He's had mutants in his house before. He thinks it's wonderful they have their own school. Probably wouldn't let his daughter date one, but he doesn't have a daughter so that's neither here nor there.
Every aspect of the book is really well done - the art, pacing and scope in particular are top tier. I imagine the characterization will get more fleshed out - we're only 8 issues in.

oh shit I used to have the first 4 or 5 issues of this that I got from a random grab bag from half price books. Boy was it bad. If I remember correctly, JG Jones did the art right? Everyone starts somewhere...

Yeah I will give you that scene. Like I said the end results are worth the stumbles getting there. Cyke couldn't fall further in my eyes, so no big there. Cap is Cap, so again no skin off my teeth.
Man, UXM 19 was great...that was a much better finish than AvX 12 was. Cyclops may not be a likable character, but damned if he isn't entertaining. I loved watching his fall and the fact that he's completely okay with his actions. He'd wish some things could've changed, but all-in-all his main mission was complete.
And fuck Cap America. It was great that Cyke got to rub it in his face.
Looking to get into Gillen's Thor work, anyone know to where to start? Seems like he's written over a couple books, and a lot of them seem to be event tie-ins, so I'm not sure where to separate his actual stories from the crossover stuff.
- Welp, AvsX ended up as just a binary switch from No More Mutants to Mutants, pretty dumb. Ironically enough, Children's Crusade was a far better more interesting tale that lead into it really, since I re-read that the other day (except no-one has mentioned Wanda's reincarnated super powerful wonder-twins since?). Its all over and done with now at the very least, but managing to make the Phoenix an absolutely dull event is nothing to be applauded. And jesus christ at the new Nova. Someone please end that shit, shiv Loeb in the cafeteria if thats what it takes.
- Minimum Carnage looks like its going to be awesome, two of my favourite newer books colliding together with a pretty goofy premise for a previously one-trick villain.
- Avengers Academy gave me way more of a fuzzy WatXM feeling than that actual book has in a while too.
- I guess Slott is book-ending Big Time by probably dragging everything good out of Peter's life again, probably gonna get kicked out of Horizon Labs. I've always hated the dumb MADAME WEB shit though thats been in the book for so long.
- Ending so many Remender issues with all our heroes in a crumpled mess beaten by Supervillain Unlikely Union #22. No magical UFO, multiple brain misdirection shit to save them this time either. Wolverine has been worf'd on (Worf-erine?) waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much throughout UXF though, its gotten plenty dumb. He manages to get like 2 claw swipes in before some new magic super-cancer pumping tentacle gets plugged into his butthole.

I'm trying to justify Captain's speech to Cyclops to myself as he is my favorite hero, but I can't. What I will tell is that I agree with everything he did even if what he said was some crazy Cap speaking.
But, here's some spoilered considerations:
Cyke: "Somewhere I went off-track" *shows the first dark phoenix saga*. I agree and I still think Cyclops is villain-material, and unlike parallax who just blew a fuse, Cyclops has been slowly becoming less compassionate and more militaristic over the past decades, so the character is going on the right direction.
Hope: She needed the scarlet witch (and maybe even Iron Fist) to do what she did, maybe if Cyclops hadn't acted out, they would reach this conclusion faster and done this Witch + Hope equation without the need of the Phoenix 5 episode; so again, I agree with his actions.
Cap: "I can't help your friends if they don't turn themselves in". Cap doesn't want to arrest everyone, he wants to see what to do about them, but can't if they are on the run. Plus, he is right, something is coming to destroy the earth and instead of cooperation, Cyclops used his iron-hand tendencies that he has been showing for a long time and said the first "fuck you". So cap is right in keeping him in jail, how do you thrust a would-be dictator to be the leader of a reborn mutantkind when he already showed that will wage war against earth? Sorry guys, he has become Magneto, there is no sugar-coating it.
~
I want my "Cap is right" shirt.
Edit: You know what? Screw that. The speech is right, too. Cap is absolved, everyone! Let's party!
perhaps the story had more impact and was more thought provoking than people give it credit for if people are willing to talk about both parties morality
Personally I sit comfortably in my neutrality chair.
My favourite FF run. Just lots of fun and adventure and good Larroca art.
And nobody was right in AvsX. It wasn't some well written ideological clash between two opposing positions, it was a tale of characters being kept stupid and ignorant because 12 issues needed to be sold until the "why dont we just do this with the Phoenix?" a-ha moment and the status quo binary switch could go from left (no more) to (many) mutants.
If there absolutely has to be anyone that was 'right' it was the Avengers in correctly deducing Hope wasn't ready and that the whole Earth would be fucked by another Dark Phoenix incident. Only through 12 issues of self discovery and random power-ups did she gain the ability to
lol@ all you clowns. It's all dumb. Whining about any kind of pop culture reference in a Spider Man comic, classy or otherwise is like whining about bad jokes in a Deadpool comic. If you don't wanna see em, don't read it.
