The X-gene being restored.

Which could have been guessed from the aforementioned solicitation, but probably not from most of the interview quotes Bendis has been giving about the post-AvX Marvel Universe being worse for mutants than Days of Future Past, etc.

I guessed it when this was announced. This whole thing was as transparent as a WWE storyline.

Just read AvX 12.

This whole event was fucking stupid. Aside from both figurative and literal character assassination (Cyclops and Xavier, respectively) this crossover disappointed in every way imaginable. Captain America gets to be a condescending asshole and pins this all on Cyke and the others but doesn't even address the fact that all of this happened because him and the Avengers interfered and attempted to destroy the Phoenix Force which directly resulted in the Phoenix Five, it was never meant for them. So how does the story end? Hope winds up getting the Phoenix Force, which is what the Avengers were trying to prevent in the first place and she proves that they're all fucking retarded by doing good and restoring mutants. Cyclops should have just told Captain "TOLD YOU SO, FUCKFACE" and laughed in his face.

What an awful, awful, awful event. Fuck Marvel.

Exactly how I felt. The Avengers caused this whole fucking mess in the first place! Swear to god, Marvel have their heads up so far their asses. I'll be happy for the end of Bendis-Style events where the morality and theme of the story are completely reversed as to what's presented. Also, all his stories end the same way...how do you defeat this undefeatable god?
hit him harder
. So sick of this shit. He never learnt the lesson Moore tried to teach with Watchmen.

Okay, fair enough. If you assume someone never saw that solicitation then that would come as a surprise.

Also I was wrong on AvX being a bust because all the K'un Lun stuff in New Avengers was badass, as well as my (Squirrel) girl getting some time in the limelight.

Finished AvX 12. While I basically like how they resolved this, their cap is a despicable self-righteous asshole. The double-standard between Scarlet Witch and Cyclops is baffling.

Cap is a racist...
"no more mutants" is good for humans, so he's okay with it.

more mutants = bad for humans. Blame cyclops.

TEAM CYCLOPS. He was right in Schism. And he was right in AVX.

Picked up Swamp Thing for the first time in months since Rotworld finally started. Really hope it picks up, because I found both Swampy and Animal Man to be completely underwhelming this month. I'm really curious to see where these books go after the crossover, since their whole first year was spent setting this up.

Yeah, the end to the fight was so unfulfilling as well. Herp derp. It's really a shame, I like characters in comics but everything else about them is just so dumb. Guess I'll just stick with the Marvel Cinematic Universe from now on.

Yup I agree, Team Cyclops all the way.

Well, it's obvious Wolverine and Beast have been Uncle Toms for years now.

So I've been avoiding most of AvX due to the Cyclops character assassination (he's been my favorite since I was a kid) but that being said, should I give UXM a shot?

Been out of the X-teams books for a bit, save for UXF (which I read in trades), so I've kinda wary of picking up other X-books.

Thanks.

That you guys waited until the last fucking week of AvX to piece together the acronym PENIS is INEXCUSABLE. I feel like the last 5 months of my life have been wasted.

I can't wait for the "Cyclops was right" T-shirts to pop up (we already see QQ with one on in WaTX).

He's wearing one with Cyclops now?!?!?! Amazeballs. Callout of the century.

I gotta say these AvX impressions are mighty entertaining, and make me curious about getting them...

UXM has been generally pretty good since Second Coming but Wolverine and the X-Men is the only X-book you NEED to be reading if you're already following UXF.

I can only take Wolverine in small doses (I've never been overly fond of him since I was a kid), but I may give WatX a shot.

Thanks.

No, nothing that couldn't have been predicted.

Of course not.

Then spoilers are no big deal. Unless of course, "it was underwhelming" is a spoiler, which I guess it is. Knowing nothing happens is just as bad as knowing something happens I guess.

This isn't even a big deal - it's a plot device they've undone, and could have been undone with a single line in any book. That's not really story or drama.

Key word being GUESSED.

I wouldn't want to be a magazine rack in my way today....

You'd knock it over - spoiler! :D

Picked up Swamp Thing for the first time in months since Rotworld finally started. Really hope it picks up, because I found both Swampy and Animal Man to be completely underwhelming this month. I'm really curious to see where these books go after the crossover, since their whole first year was spent setting this up.

They have really fucked up both Animal Man and Swamp Thing with this relaunch and it makes me sad because these are two of my favourite writers. But it's so boring and never ending. Look how much story Moore rammed into a year of Swamp Thing - there is so much you can do with the character, and so much they aren't doing now. The whole of rotworld and the build and everything could have been done in 6 issues and they could have moved on to so many varied stories. It's yawnsville and it hurts because these were my favourite titles coming out of the relaunch.

Actually, this is kinda the nu52 in a nutshell, almost all the books are mired in these sprawling stories that struggle to go anywhere. Decompression is one thing, but these guys aren't even writing for the trade anymore, they're writing for the 6 book collection and it doesn't work at all.

I have no affinity for Wolverine at all, but UXF and WatXM are the best comics out there right now full stop. So great, and it's stunning how well Remender and Aaron's stuff dovetails together. Stuff happens, characters grow, I give a shit about what happens. It's wonderful.

Wolverine is a VERY minor fixture in WatXM, and certainly not the books draw. The book is primarily about random shenanigans at his school and focuses almost exclusively on the students and miscellaneous faculty. And it's fucking hysterical. READ DAT SHIT.

Wasnt
the x gene reversed
at the end of second coming anyway

Uhm, I don't remember that but after second coming was the first time since M-Day that there were new mutants (Hope's Lights).

In retrospect, they didn't really do a very good job explaining how or why there new mutants all of a sudden that I can recall, but I don't remember anything involving the x gene.

Old spoiler:
Not really. 5 new mutants manifested. I didn't read Generation Hope, but Uncanny X-men sort of explained them as being Hope's heralds or something as she manifested the Phoenix Force. Either way, it seems like the x-gene is officially back, which hasn't been the case since House of M outside of Hope and those 5

EDIT: New mutants will also give Marvel some new c-list and teen characters to kill. They were starting to run out of unimportant x-characters, and Marvel likes their event body counts

You shoulda read Gen Hope. That book was great. There was technically a sixth light but he melted. :(

There were a couple of additional new mutants that manifested in Generation Hope. That hasn't really been explained satisfactorily, even by Gillen in UXM #13 or on his Formspring.

I'm pretty certain that the Five Lights were originally conceived with the understanding that they would play some major role in the ultimate resolution of Hope's story arc, and that's hinted at throughout Gillen's run on Generation Hope, but they ended up being shunted to the sidelines as AvX took shape - he actually worked this somewhat cleverly into UXM #13 as a plot point. It's a shame, and makes me wish that Gillen had been more involved in AvX proper.

More seriously, I have been meaning to catch up on Swamp thing and Animal Man but never get around to it. I enjoyed the first 3-4 issues of each, but I will probably just read them in trade a this point. Is Paquette still on Swamp Thing?

Exactly, for the first six or months after the reboot Animal Man was hands down my favorite of the new books. I'm not a huge Snyder fan but Swamp Thing was pretty great and I was looking forward to the crossover. By issue 7 I wasn't even buying ST anymore and was sticking with AM due to my love of Lemire and Pugh. At this point I'll give Rotworld one more month and then I expect that I'll be dropping both books for good.

This is another example of how well a season style publishing format could work in comics, Both if these could probably have been 12 issue series and been done. But instead they'll meander on until sales numbers drop and both get canceled.

Sometimes. But really man, skip the middle, just read Rotworld if you're really interested I guess but it is booooooooring. Go read the Moore/Morrison runs and leave it at that. I'm really ashamed at Snyder especially - the guy is a great horror writer and yet he's got an Alan Moore castoff/Amygdala lookylike going around yelling "I am Arcaaaaaaane!" it's retarded.

Cool, was hoping for less of him and more of a focus on others. Will probably grab an itunes card for a comixology binge in my near future for WatXM. As for UXF, I'll pick up the next trade (I have vols. 1-3 already).

If I bought every book that was somewhat interesting, I'd be broke.

But it looks like Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited has the first 15 issues available to read. Maybe I'll go back and read those now that I have caught up with Uncanny X-Men, Punisher and Daredevil. What was the last issue in the series?

I have read Morrison's Animal Man a couple of times (as well as 52, which was probably my favourite modern "Event comic"). Never got around to Moore's Swamp Thing. Probably because so much of it has been spoiled over the years. Though I really enjoyed Watchmen despite knowing the ending years ahead of reading it thanks to some 90s Wizard issue, so maybe I should just bite the bullet on Swamp Thing. DC really needs something that is equivalent to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited for their older stuff...

I'm trying to remember a Superman story. At the end of this story
it's the distant future with Lex sending his child into space in a rocket.
Was that Superman: Red Son?

#17.

And moves it a glacial pace. It took Alec what, five issues to finally become Swamp Thing?

I wonder what their initial plans were for the character coming out if Brightest Day, seemed like they had something significant planned for him.

sounds like it.
and everything apears to loop back to the beginning?
