Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Capcom will be at NYC Comic Con with the game. Is it worth going to get information? A ticket is $35 bucks.
Comic Con is worthwhile if you can make it on Friday.

Otherwise, if it's like other recent Comic Cons in NYC, trying to get in for just Saturday is probably more trouble than it's worth (unless you're a local or have other business there).

Just seems like Nintendo would make it as easy as possible for Capcom to include it since it is a feature Nintendo wants to push.
In theory the wii U also shouldn't have any issues (spec wise) with supporting 3D displays. I don't think 3D display support for Tri G HD is likely to happen, though.

Do you have anymore info? Is there a link or something?

The above link. is actually for 3DS, I believe. I doubt that the Wii U version will be 30 fps.

Sword & shield sucks ass. Such a terrible weapon unless you want to inflict sleep or paralysis is quickly. The + button attack is the strongest slash attack but that's not saying much given how weak damage the weapon does overall.

The + button attack is meant as a finishing attack at the end of a button combo.

Basically, you typical SnS combos go something like:
1. Regular Combo (mash A)
2. Regular Combo + Shield Bash (very useful for inflicting Stun since the normal combo inflicts some Stun damage anyways)
3. Regular Combo + Revolving Slice (+ Button); best used when you have an opening for attack.
4. Jump Slash + Regular Combo + Shield Bash/Revolving Slice + Roll (then repeat to Regular Combo); Capable of doing a lot of damage quickly, since you can immediately start attacking from a roll.
5. Jump Slash + A + A + A + Side Combo + Revolving Slice; purportedly the best overall combo.

There's another combo or two and some other variations in there, but that's some general stuff.

SnS is actually pretty good if you can be aggressive and master infighting. That said, it stills sucks vs. certain monsters and it's kinda crappy to use Underwater.
Plus, you can surprisingly block a lot of attacks with SnS. Granted, it's not Lance-type levels of blocking, but it can save your ass.

One of the things that sucks about it in particular, is how impractical it is to cut off tails due to how tall some monsters are like with Barroth, Diablos, Deviljho, Uragaan and Alatreon. Also, you can't hit wings either like on Rathian and Rathalos.

You have a point there. Against taller monsters, you're stuck chipping away at their feet.
For Blos and Barroth, it's a little tricky to get their tails, but it's very doable. Jho and Ura, probably not (I forget if you can actually do Ura, depending how low its tail comes to the ground. The gas attack would be prime for getting it, if it's anything like Gravios where its tail was open to attack due to the gas hitbox not covering its tail completely.)

And you can break the wings for the Raths with SnS. The actual hitbox for them is fairly close to their body and the wingtips are often low enough to hit. I've done it dozens of times.

I always go SNS for Barroth, just looove getting up close and personal with that guy, chopping away hyper-aggressively around his feet. <3 Barroth in general, though.

I do the same thing for Barioth. Speed vs. Speed! Plus, he leaves himself open for a lot of attacks, and more so once you break a wing. He's a little bit more bothersome in P3rd since they gave him a new hipcheck attack which often screws me up since I'm not used to it.

IIRC, SnS was actually kind of broken in MHDos. I believe they put in an additional dmg booster on it that completely unbalanced it. It really hasn't been good since, at least as far as damage dealing goes. If you're unskilled and playing with others its a fine weapon as it allows you to use items without sheathing, block, and attack safely.

People always say its good with element boosters, but no, not most of the time. Yes, it gets a lot of element boosting, but even with that it still lags far behind other options you'd have available.

It's actually pretty good if you use the shield KO ability in Tri. But in order to do proper DPS with SnS, you have to work way harder than other weapons. You have to KO when it's possible and you have to jump in and out much more often than other weapons. Use items whenever possible. I think it's a great weapon: you can easily get comfortable with MH using it and it requires the most training to defeat monsters properly with it.

People also loved it when I used my team healer set with SnS :P (seed buffing, horn blowing, team healing, status healing, best weapon for 'saving a teammate from being stunned', almost impossible to interrupt teammates or send them flying, KO'ing monsters)

My two favorite weapons in Monster Hunter Tri were the sword and Shield (for the speed) and the SwitchAxe for the powah!

Can't wait for this.

The cross save feature also sold me on the 3DS version at the same time.

IIRC, it gained an additional level of piercing. I think Dos' tutorial on SnS makes a mention of it, but it basically kept you from bouncing on stuff that other weapons would have issues with at about the same sharpness level.

Sword & shield is fun to use to perform the combo attacks and knocking out a monster with shield bash is satisfying. Ya, you can block some strong surprisingly attacks like Uragaan's roll. Still, I dislike it when people bring the weapon to quests if their not status ailment types. Being able to use items without sheathing is nice option but still not enough to make this weapon compelling enough for most people to want to use.

Always great when I bring a Sword and Shield and run into a gigantic Deviljho, where I can't reach any part of his body except his ankles. Awwwyeah.

I really do enjoy many of the S&S designs though, which is why I have nearly all of them in Tri, even though I rarely end up using them.

Meant as a texture crispness comparison of sorts.

TEXTURES!

There has to be a different team doing the Tri games than the MHP games, right? This is such a better up-port than MHP3rd.

MHP3rd is probably the laziest up-port I've ever seen. At a simple glance of its HUD/UI you can tell the game was rushed with no regard to quality. I also found it kind of funny that they crammed it full of monster ecology videos from MHFU. I guess it's cool that I can now watch an HD-ified video of a khezu gulping down a kelbi but why bother if they aren't even in the game?

So who was this supposed Korean company behind Portable 3rd HD? I keep hearing it was outsourced, the location is all I heard of it.

8ing did MHG Wii and MH3G 3DS and are surely behind the Wii U version.

What I heard was Sony had a Korean team do the port and handed it to Capcom. I wonder if anyone knows what really went on with that.

I already see that I'll need a lot of help with this game. I played Freedom Unite and liked it but I basically stopped playing because MP was impossible for me to do. Now this should no longer be an issue on the WiiU but like I said I will have a lot of catching up to do...

Why are the player names monospaced fonts with gigantic kerning AGAIN

It. Keeps. Happening.

Why does this website compare screenshots without showing the same in the screenshot? How is that a viable comparison

I think there is a lack of screenshots. The comparison's as sublimit mentioned are not very good. I'm trying to edit the post and get matching screens from Tri.
