US PSN: Spend $100 during October, get $20 back

Just FYI, looks like the credit expires after a month. Seemed likely to be me based on the wording of the blog post, but there appeared to be some confusion elsewhere over exactly what it meant.

It expires in December, so you’ll have about a month from when you receive it to use the credit.

I don't expect that'll affect a ton of people here -- anyone who can readily find $100 worth of content without much trouble will surely be able to find somewhere to spend $20.

For me, it might have an impact... I've got to renew Plus this month, which brings me halfway there. Don't know that it's worth my while to push to spend another $50, when I'd have to spend the extra $20 pretty quickly.

That said, I wasn't certain it was a deal I'd buy into anyway.

If this were for November I would hit it sooo much easier.
I guess I gotta get LBP Vita. I don't really like getting digital console games is the issue

That's an awfully short time frame. Fortunately Okami is about $20, and even if I decide to just get that for the $100 rather than with the credit I can easily find something else to blow it on.

This was clarified later:
Well, the voucher codes that we’ll send expire on 12/9. However, once you redeem them and get that $20 in your SEN wallet, then their yours to hold onto however you like. Just don’t wait to redeem that voucher code, and you’ll be set.

So it's really not an issue at all.

Yeah, sounds like basically "pay attention and redeem ASAP", so something big would have to happen where losing that $20 is going to be the least of your concerns. Heck, maybe they'd be sympathetic if you showed you were in a hospital for over a month or something.

So... Playstation Plus resubscribed and a bunch of PSX classics of my Vita? Sounds good.

Thinking all the FFs, Vagrant Story, Xenogears and Breath of Fire IV.

Sheesh, glad they know what they're doing ;)

Nice that they re-clarified and great for gamers. Could use an editor on the blog, though. "To spend in November" sounds like something different.

I kinda wish the upcoming R&C games were releasing this month (Deadlocked HD & FFA) - it would make it a lot easier for me to spend the money.

have they ever commented on Deadlocked HD releasing outside of Japan?

it seems ridiculous that it wouldn't but crazier things have happened

Best Buy's website is sold out of $50 PSN codes. :(

Does someone know/recommend a place where I can buy them online and get them emailed to me?

You can try PCGameSupply, but they charge ana dditional fee to PSN Card codes. However their price is lower than other sites I've seen selling the PSN Codes.

With Unfinished Swan & Retro City confirmed for October in the past 24 hours, this deal just got even easier, didn't it?

Any word on Walking Dead episode 4 yet? I know it's confirmed for October.

With how PSN loves to stack games releases, I bet it will come out the same day as Unfinished Swan.

purchased 3 psm around $10 total so far, planning to buy $15 Retro City, $10-$15 unfinished swan, $15 Killzone HD, $20 Okami HD, $10 Jet Set Radio Vita, that's $85 total, and I'm not counting retail title that you can get from psn like Virtue's Last Reward, AC3 liberation, DJ Max, or Ragnarok.

this month is crazy

Their service charge seems reasonable. I wonder if they accept UK credit cards...

I have not seen it in stock for more than a month now.

A few months ago I was contemplating buying $200+ worth of Best Buy's $50 cards just incase they ran out. In retrospect I guess I should have.

Can anyone confirm buying PSN cards from a retail store contributes toward this sale?

Yes, it does. As long as they're PSN credit and not PS+ subs.

I.e. if you buy $20 PSN cards and put them in your wallet, you can spend them on anything this month and it will count.

My revised October PSN purchases:

10/1 Tokyo Jungle ($13, last day of PS+ sale)
10/9 Retro City Rampage ($15)
10/9 Sunflowers ($4)
10/16 Jet Set Radio Vita ($10)
10/? Walking Dead Episodes 3 & 4 ($10)
10/23 Killzone HD ($15)
10/23 Smart As... (~$15)
10/30 Okami HD ($20)

$102.

hmmm just re-subscribed to plus for a year, so that's half of it (assuming that counts).

i haven't picked up dyack yet, is it still discounted for plus? i should probably get sound shapes/tokyo jungle too. is there a convienant list of high quality psn releases from the past 6-12 months? the only things i've bought is journey and that mk collection i believe.

Good luck with that, it's a retail game. Can't imagine it being that low.

Oh? I had no idea. I'll hope for a ~$26 PSN release then.

Edited: Am I the only one who thought October was going to be a crappy month for PSN when this deal got initially announced? I thought I'd be trying to find things to buy versus being bombarded with all these things I've been waiting on. The PS+ discounts have made it all the sweeter.

This made me laugh.

I forgot completely about RCR. I think I know what my credit is going towards.

nice. didn't know about this. going to cop that assassin creed 3 + assassin creed liberation + Season Pass bundle since it'll be no extra. I'll use the $20 towards persona golden

And if we already have money in our wallet an decide to spend it, it will count to the $100 too?

This is what Sony says:
This is a store-wide promotion, so anything you purchase using your wallet will count towards the $100 total. One caveat: the credit back is limited to the first $100 you spend.
Im assuming thats a yes but I dont know for sure.

The Unfinished Swan too? Damn, this is going to be easy.

It's clarified in the comments a few times that it doesn't matter how or when the money is added to the wallet. All that matters is that you spend $100 in October.

Ah, so we can't spend $200 and get $40 back? That's good to know, since with Day 1 Digital I could have potentially spent $200.
