why can't i stop buying?
I just hope I can control myself not to open all the packs so I can use them for drafting.

I'm thinking about dropping money on a playset of Thundermaw Hellkite. I think that thing is going to blow up in the new standard.

What makes you think they'll blow up?
Damn, how many boosters per box and how much ?
I think we're going to see Red come back in a big way. It has a lot of nice tools now and some really great creatures.
Got a case of 6 boxes coming tomorrow, splitting with a friend. Looking forward to it, haven't opened a box since Dark Ascension.

I don't see any reason why would you want to go mono in any of the colors in the new standard. With access to 8 dual lands of 5 of the combinations right now, you're giving up a lot of flexibility and diversity by sticking to one color. I wanted to try mono red for the first weekend but realized there's no reason to not splash blue for stuff like Desperate Ravings and Delver, which is still a great tempo card, just a less broken one. Already in blue, might as well splash white for Geist of Saint Traft, which there are no cheap answers for anymore.
Geist of Saint Bullshit is one of the most important creatures in Standard right now.
The UB Delver decks will be interesting to watch. Goblin Electromancer looks to be nuts. Can you imagine curving Delver -> Electromancer -> Talrand's Invocation? The question will end up being if Delver ends up making the cut long term.
I guess the first SCG open is this weekend isn't it? Supply is going to play a huge role in the metagame for this tournament, although it will be very interesting to see what decks end up bubbling to the top. I'm very much looking forward to watching it.

Geist is going to be even more annoying these days with this kicking around.

Yeah...
Amazing that Clone and/or Evil Twin might actually become relevant if Geist blows up like he seems primed to.
I ended up deciding not to try and put together a standard deck for the SCG Open this weekend, but they're running 10 buck drafts all weekend, so I'll probably do that a bunch on one of the days.
I just realized that people can't evaluate wordy cards well.
Jace and Deathrite Shaman both (were/are) undervalued badly because of this.
Would def be interesting if ET blew up. People seem to hate that card haha probably just because Metamorph and Image are better.
Mizzium mortars will be a big thing concerning him too
Is Mortars really much of an answer when you need to get to six mana to deal with him?
Think I'm gonna get going early and grab a box before I head in to work. Can't wait for that feel![]()
I don't think you'll see a lot of mortars in serious play. It'll be a casual hit because it'll be much cheaper and easier to get then Bonfire.
This is straight up wrong. With 2 modes Mortars is a lot better than Bonfire in a better decks, more efficient early on when killing just one guy and better than Bonfire late game, plus it's not bad if you draw it at the wrong time.
I meant to say in certain decks. I'd go as far as saying there will be more Mortars than Bonfires at the SCG Open.
The only aspect that is better is that you don't have to miracle it. Bonfire is better in every other way though.
The miracle aspect is huge though. And that's not even the only part of it, Bonfire isn't as efficient at killing single targets.

You have specific cards to kill single targets.
Eh, I don't think you need that much to kill specific targets when there's mass removal that doesn't hit your guys too.
We start getting Day 1 results tomorrow from tournaments, so it should pick up.this thread is pretty slow for a release day.
is everyone playing? lol
JeeeesusGot my fat pack today.
Got a Vraska, Jace, 2 Deathrite Shamans (1x foil), Cyclonic Rift, Mizium Mortars and a Dreadbore.
Needless to say, I'm pretty happy.
