why can't i stop buying?

I just hope I can control myself not to open all the packs so I can use them for drafting.

I'm waiting for the inevitable "Hey guys look at all these packs I just opened".

I'm thinking about dropping money on a playset of Thundermaw Hellkite. I think that thing is going to blow up in the new standard.

Buy booster boxes until you have a playset and then send me the leftovers. Everyone wins.

except your bank account

Got a case of 6 boxes coming tomorrow, splitting with a friend. Looking forward to it, haven't opened a box since Dark Ascension.

I just realized that people can't evaluate wordy cards well.

Jace and Deathrite Shaman both (were/are) undervalued badly because of this.

Ugh

That feel when you don't have enough cards in your new standard deck and start replacing them with subpar choices

Still missing 3 Loltrolls, 2 Abrupt Decay, 2 Dreg Mangler and 2 Rakdos Cackler

Putting in some Thragtusks in the zombie deck lol

Opened 2 boxes and got 3 Abrupt Decays, a Vraska and a bunch of other stuff that I don't remember off the top of my head. Considering that one box was free, I think I made out well.

I don't see any reason why would you want to go mono in any of the colors in the new standard. With access to 8 dual lands of 5 of the combinations right now, you're giving up a lot of flexibility and diversity by sticking to one color. I wanted to try mono red for the first weekend but realized there's no reason to not splash blue for stuff like Desperate Ravings and Delver, which is still a great tempo card, just a less broken one. Already in blue, might as well splash white for Geist of Saint Traft, which there are no cheap answers for anymore.

Geist of Saint Bullshit is one of the most important creatures in Standard right now.

The UB Delver decks will be interesting to watch. Goblin Electromancer looks to be nuts. Can you imagine curving Delver -> Electromancer -> Talrand's Invocation? The question will end up being if Delver ends up making the cut long term.

I guess the first SCG open is this weekend isn't it? Supply is going to play a huge role in the metagame for this tournament, although it will be very interesting to see what decks end up bubbling to the top. I'm very much looking forward to watching it.

Yeah, I'm actually probably just going to slap Spectral Flight on him. I don't know of any reliable way of getting rid of a 4/4 flying GoST except for Supreme Verdict or a 4 point Bonfire that they can run right into a counterspell.

And yeah, T2 into T3 Invocation is so strong. So, so, soo strong.

I have a foil of him I'd be willing to trade. I dont know what you have, but I'm not looking to break your bank over it.

Yeah... :(

Amazing that Clone and/or Evil Twin might actually become relevant if Geist blows up like he seems primed to.

Would def be interesting if ET blew up. People seem to hate that card haha probably just because Metamorph and Image are better.

Mizzium mortars will be a big thing concerning him too

I ended up deciding not to try and put together a standard deck for the SCG Open this weekend, but they're running 10 buck drafts all weekend, so I'll probably do that a bunch on one of the days.

Find the stream and truffle shuffle for GAF glory.
We shall be watching.

Deathrite is my sleeper of the set, love that card like crazy in all formats.
Just have to survive this hellish work day and I can pick up my two boxes and my gf gets hers.

Is Mortars really much of an answer when you need to get to six mana to deal with him?

I don't think you'll see a lot of mortars in serious play. It'll be a casual hit because it'll be much cheaper and easier to get then Bonfire.

This is straight up wrong. With 2 modes Mortars is a lot better than Bonfire in certain decks, more efficient early on when killing just one guy and better than Bonfire late game, plus it's not bad if you draw it at the wrong time.

rofl, you better buy all the mortars you can get like right now if you really think so :)

You have specific cards to kill single targets.

What deck are you playing that has room for Bonfire and kill spells while keeping pressure on the board to take advantage of the 1 sided sweep?

Eh, I don't think you need that much to kill specific targets when there's mass removal that doesn't hit your guys too.

That means you can't kill a 3 toughness guy until turn 5. Delver isn't going to be relevant any more, Lingering Souls probably won't bounce back with new Jace and less good opportunities for chumps / trades. Zombies are very resilient, they don't really care that much about a sweeper with Lotleth Troll, Gravecrawler and Geralf's Messenger. And there's Thragtusk, which if you want to attack into (what Bonfire decks should want to do) the first Bonfire doesn't really help.
The only deck I think it's good against is W/u Humans, but what colours are you in to play it when you don't have Sacred Foundry or Stomping Grounds? Even B/R or Jund Zombies isn't perfect as they fix the mana with Cavern which doesn't help.

Bonfire is still a very powerful card, but in this meta I doubt it will have much of a place straight away. Especially against something as versatile as Mortars.

If you've got two desecration demons on the board, do they get to sac one creature to tap both?

At the beginning of each combat, any opponent may sacrifice a creature. If a player does, tap Desecration Demon and put a +1/+1 counter on it.

Each sacrifice to tap triggers separately. Whenever a card refers to itself by name, it is usually equivalent to saying "this card" and not "all cards with this name".

Got my fat pack today.

Got a Vraska, Jace, 2 Deathrite Shamans (1x foil), Cyclonic Rift, Mizium Mortars and a Dreadbore.

Needless to say, I'm pretty happy.
