So i decided to get back into the Ultimate Comics Universe, as such i got all the recent Ultimate Comics The Ultimate comics.
Honestly it was fun at first, i really liked all the build up and everything....heck when they brought in Zorn and Xorn I was like shit this is going to be an awesome story.
Then it falls flat.....i mean seriously
......then theres the fact that they barely (read as didnt) use Zorn and Xorn for anything substantial considering how awesome both of them could have been (they could still be used later for something more interesting).....at the end of the day it was

I really liked that recent Ultimates arc, but the finale was a massive, massive anti-climax.
The hood told him Nightmare is his biological father. He ends up leaving the initiative and was reported to either be training under Doctor Strange or he is looking for a man named Carl in New Orleans. So no one knows where he is, basically.

Is Superman: Earth One worth reading? I just finished Batman: Earth One and loved it. I hope the next volume of it comes out next year at least. I want the Birthday Boy to return.
Also, can you guys recommend me some Elseworlds stories? The new edition of Gotham by Gaslight doesn't come out until March and I want to read something under that imprint now.

Well, he doesn't write prose exclusively, ever. I mean his writing in his comics, the text, is lyrical and moving in ways that most cartoonists can't pull off. I mean, the last page of the World's Fair bit in Jimmy Corrigan I mean seriously.

Fuck no. It's truly a bad, boring comic. I don't know much about JMS as a writer, as I've steered clear of his non-Superman work, but dude cannot write Supes worth a dick. Try Superman Red Son if you haven't already read that.

I'm catching up on Daredevil now, liked issues 9 and 10, but this Omega Effect Avenging Spidey first issue of the 3 issue crossover isn't working for me. I blame it all on the whiny " NO ONE DIES " Spidey take and Punisher not really fitting in. The whole thing just seems contrived. Punisher kills people and Spider-man doesn't! And they are working together! :O

Have you been reading Rucka's Punisher as well? 'Cause I came to the crossover from that comic and loved it due to the levity it brought. I actually really liked the juxtaposition of Frank and Spidey this time around, 'cause Frank is so laconic and Spidey's chattiness is always entertaining, especially with Waid and Rucka writing him.
Speaking of Punisher, i read the second issue of Omega Effect, Punisher #10, and liked it a lot more than the first Avenging issue. I thought it was funnier and just in general worked better with the interacting characters. I've only read issues #1 and #2 of Punisher from Rucka prior, i liked it somewhat but it was a little too gloomy and didn't really hook me, but with all these great reviews lately for Punisher i'd probably buy an Ultimate Collection TPB if/when/if it comes out, or read it if the rest of the issues come to MDCU ( in their awesome way, MDCU has issues 1-2 and 4-9, issue 3 i guess is for suckers).

It was....okay. I'm not a huge fan of the whole "Superman is just like you cause he's lonely" angle, but the story worked, and the ending did leave me interested in what happened next.
New pet theory about DC's continuity : Amanda Waller's mom is the Amanda Waller from Ostrander's Suicide Squad.

Amanda Waller is one of my favorite characters in DC, and I only know her from Batman Beyond. Even so, she was so cool in that.

I did it guys. I'm finally reading Morrison's New X-Men. Feels good to finally be filling one of the biggest gaps in my X-Men knowledge. Gotta say though, I really do not dig Quitely. I respect the guy and recognize that he's got a lot of talent, but I just don't really like his style at all. Not enough straight lines. What's even weirder though is EVS, whose Green Lantern stuff I really liked, isn't really appealing to me much here either. Seems like he's trying to match FQ's style maybe? I dunno, I just don't really like the look of the run at all but I'm only a few issues in, maybe it'll grow on me.

At least Quietly doesn't have the weird asymmetry that appears all so often in EVS work. I can't read a Flash comic where Flash's god damned head is deformed brah! And not because it's stylistic like Quietly.

I'm usually a fan of Quitely, but I didn't like his work on New X-Men at all. All-Star Superman is his best stuff, imo.

His first storyline is inked, but he switches to digital inks in the second of his Riot At Xaviers issues. (As everyone I'm sure noticed immediately.)
Funny story, he likes Dan Green's work inking his stuff (E is For Extinction Part 3!!!) (I KNOW!!) the most.

Currently Morrison's Animal Man is already one of my favs. I think that's why I was putting off reading NXM so long is because I didn't want to risk liking it enough to have to label myself a Morrison fan since his newer stuff is all literal nonsense to me.

The fuck? His Action Comics run isn't always on point but when it's good, it's some of the best cape stuff out there. His Batman work is stellar and Joe the Barbarian is a hell of a miniseries. I'll happily call myself a Morrison fan--old and new.

I didn't try really hard actually. I mean, it doesn't take very long to internalize "This art is too bad for me to read."
Man... You should. Art was at worst serviceable. I didn't ever find it offensive, but I think my taste in comic artist is already notoriously suspect here.
Hm. I dunno man - even the most die hard Morrison fans would probably admit that a lot of his work is compromised by his collaborators, especially on longer runs. It's definitely there in New X-Men, which is so much worse without Quitely or Bachalo and JLA, which I found nearly unreadable and like 75% of his Batman stuff.
Morrison's big problem (aside from the tweeness that often plagues his cape stuff) is that, unlike Alan Moore* or Frank Miller, he doesn't seem to care who draws his shit.

The only art that I just can't deal with is Eric Canete and Larry Stroman. They could be paired with Milligan, writing a new X-statix story and I would still not buy it.

I agree with what you said about bad art afflicting some of his stories but it's hard to imagine that he doesn't give a shit. I mean, the dude grew up drawing and has at least a fundamental knowledge of comic art , but as somebody trying to bring out a story on a timely basis, on some sort of schedule, he probably had to take those hits on New X-Men and Invisibles and whatever else just to get the issues out. I can't really think of any long-form runs that have impeccable art all the way through. Even Uncanny X-Force had a jarringly atrocious arc, in terms of art, that many people decided to drop and come back to once it finished.

The problem isn't what Morisson thinks. He's doing company owned work. I'm sure he's a big enough name to have some say in who draws his books, but in most cases - especially now with accelerated release schedules - the mandate is for Marvel/DC to get the books out.
Moore's Image slumming years were still pretty great, even if he was just rehashing his 80's DC work.
Canete is like Quietly in a way. Both are fantastic artists, but they're not cut out for mainstream superhero comics. They just don't have that slick Michael Bay / Jim Lee look people expect from mainstream superhero comics.

I never got the feeling that alan moore really cared that strongly who was drawing his books. He worked with great artists in his later years because he was alan moore and dave gibbons asked to be on watchmen
Yeah, a huge part of Morrison x bad art is the format he's decided to work in - monthly comics are poison for good, consistent art. Maybe "doesn't give a shit" is a bit harsh but I think he's definitely resigned himself to the pitfalls of getting a book out every month if he wants to write some ~ Batman comics ~.
