Who the fuck demanded a sequel to The Widening Gyre? WHO. THE FUCK. DID THAT. I need to punch someone in the dick for that because fucking seriously. Fucking. Seriously.

LOL

Well he's famous, has a podcast dedicated to the world's greatest pederast, and his buddy needs more art credits on comicbookdb.com yo!

Would be nice if Flanagan would seek work outside of Smith. I'm not a fan, but y'know - guy seems to want to do it.

iirc i read Widening Gyre and it ended in a cliffhanger so i assumed there would be more and Smith said another volume was coming.

i will be skipping it :P

Just sat down and re-read all of AvX in one sitting.

Bleh. Any 'Hero vs Hero' storyline is going to have a bit of out-of-character stuff, but the whole thing just read like some teenager's fan fiction explaining how the Avengers are totally awesome and the X-Men suuuuuuck.

I know the Avengers are Marvel's biggest thing at the minute, with the movie and everything, but even Civil War wasn't as one-sided as this. The whole thing was just the X-Men (except Wolverine, he's popular too, so he gets to be on the Avengers' side) getting beaten up, acting dumb, turning cacklingly super-evil and then being allowed the privilege of working with the Avengers at the end.

I'm pretty miffed since I was really enjoying the X-Men status quo prior to this event. But the whole thing has been undone just so they can have a big summer event showing the characters from their big summer film show off how awesome they are by beating up the X-Men. C'mon Marvel, I love the Avengers as much as everyone else, but you layed it on a bit thick. You had Iron Man beat up Magneto for gods sake.

This is one tired ass comic book trope that I wish would rear it's ugly head less often. I guess this is what makes it appealing to teens full of hormones and "fuck you dad".

DC and Marvel are universes populated with a plethora of villains for heroes to fight. Pitting hero against hero is just stupid.

Holy shit, Judge Sassoon and Judge Gordon?! :O LOL Judge Dredd keeps giving.

The latest thing in Marvel seems to be putting villains into a more heroic light.
- Magento siding with the X-Men
- Apocalypse turned into a little kid and going to the Jean Grey school
- Loki being turned into a little kid and siding with Thor
- Dr Doom teaming up with Richards and joining the Future Foundation.

The villains as children thing seems the newer of that lot.

Magneto and Doom have sided with their foes on and off forever, but if you're new to comics I can see how the novelty of it is unique for now.

What the hell happened to Apocalypse?

And doesn't Doom do that every so often and he just has some nefarious plot in the background?

Uncanny xforce spoilers:
Some cult worshiping him clones or reincarnates him or something and intends to indoctrinate the kid to grow up to be the villain they know and love. Xforce gets wind of him returning and is shocked when they see its a kid. Fantomex offs him while everyone else is busy going "what the fuck no we can't kill kids". Fantomex re-cloned him out of guilt over killing a child to see if with better nurturing the kid can grow up to be a good guy

Honestly I don't even know why Doom is considered evil sometimes. From what I understand he's a pretty nice, if arrogant guy. Is Latveria really that bad off under his reign? Would America be any worse when they let NORMAN OSBORNE have power?

Come to think of it, I almost wish the Phoenix 5 HAD subjugated the world, because it's about damn time somebody showed the regular human beings of the Marvel world that they need to chill the hell out.

"Thank you Spider-Man for saving our lives countless times! You, too, Cap! But in the process of saving us from being eaten by Galactus, slaughtered by any of the millions of omnicidal maniacs in the universe, and protecting us from the conquest of everyone from Doom to Magneto and back, you also broke some buildings or something! You should be held responsible for that and not rewarded for the vast amounts of good you did!"

At least with the X-Men there's a "good" reason to fear and hate them now. What with Prof. X having hidden a Sun-eating, world-ending, reality bender in New York for the longest time, and protecting the man who would go on to try to conquer the world with said world ending force and who forced mutation back onto a populace that might never have asked for it (yeah, shooting lasers from your eyes and having psychic powers is cool, but being a horrible chicken man or tentacles everywhere might not be.).

you should read dark avengers for that it was really well done. He played the public so well.

There's also that grey area between hero and villain. The anti-hero or villain teams. That's the type of stuff I find interesting, and actually despise the straight up, boy scout capes.

That's the cool thing about Doom. The world probably would be a better place if he ruled it.

Thank you Bill Burr.

I don't mind this stuff here and there, or when it's well done; but tacking it on to decades old icons feels forced to me. Make a new character.

Part of the reason I found The Avengers movie so dull is because the heroes wasted more time bickering than fighting a threat; and honestly Marvel has done an absolute shit job of establishing any sort of major threat in their film universe. Loki is a joke. So far Red Skull is my favorite. Hugo Weaving just had that swag, and he needs more screen time and more of his mad plots.

I want a villain whose ass I want to see kicked. A smug urethra like a Hans Gruber.

That stands for a lot of fiction and film. Weaksauce villains cheapen the heroes.

This.

I really don't like Hero in-fighting. It made sense back in the '60s when everyone was starting out, but by this point, even with the sliding timescale all these guys have known each other for 10/15 years. They should all be pretty cool with one another by now, and give people the benefit of the doubt.

I'd much rather have some evil bastard for them to punch. No moral grey area.

The Boys was really good. I did get burned out with it because I think they milked it for too long, probably because it was selling, but the original idea was brilliant. Bitch slapping the capes made me smile.

We got a battle royale variant here's your other.

That's the cool thing about Doom. The world probably would be a better place if he ruled it.

So the only reason he hasn't been allowed yet is because, once again, Reed Richards won't let him?

Look Reed, Doom doesn't want to smang Susan. Well, I mean, he would given the chance, but his heart will always belong to Storm.

And let's face it, Reed. If you weren't capable of having the world's biggest dick, Sue would have left you a long time ago. Probably not for Namor 'cuz he's crawling with STDs, but I dunno, you introduced her to a world of super powered super men, so she could take her pick.

I hear Cyclops has a thing for blondes now, so maybe him. Who knows? As long as she never dates Spider-Man, being blonde makes her practically invincible compared to redheads.

You didn't watch Avengers? It's my biggest movie regret of all time.

I watched it.

It's like a Hostess yellow cupcake. Not my thing, no nutritional value; but clearly somebody enjoys it. :P

And upon reflection, I'm not sure if it's being in the Midwest which is largely a cultural void, or over exposure - but I really wish Marvel would lay off the fucked out AC/DC in relation to Iron Man.

What next? Ted Nugent? UGGGGHHHH!

I just know it's the theme for middle aged suburbanites who un-ironically believe they're badasses driving this year's Mustang wearing some Tapout gear.

That's how I would describe the whole Marvel movie universe.

Co-sign.

I really enjoyed Iron Man, but that's coming off of Civil Bore and being a butthurt Iron Man fan that felt Tony taking a heel turn really sucked. So the movie just sort of took me back to what I enjoyed about Iron Man.

I enjoyed both Hulk movies for different reasons. I can see why folks wouldn't enjoy them, but growing up with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno - every movie incarnation has been a better representation of what I expect out of the Hulk. You can only do so much with a bodybuilder and green paint. :\

Captain America was also really enjoyable, if uneven.

Iron Man 2, Thor, and Avengers I can live without.

On the other hand I really enjoyed Blade 2, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and X-Men First Class.

movies movies movies. I liked Avengers despite disappointments with the first and second act and Widow/Hawkeye, and Caps role, and etc etc etc etc. Whedon/Hulk Smash bias.

Iron Man is my favorite out of all the Marvels, then Cap, then it's a toss up of whatever.

BUT COMICS!?!:

Amazing Spidey 693,694: Alpha stuff, didn't really get into it. Parker is one whiny dude.

Fables #121: Really enjoyed this Toyland arc, even when it got incredibly dark. If the cubs had a little better development this would have been even better, but they still seem like tangent characters.

I like the idea behind Secret Avengers. The Avengers
having memory implants and not knowing they're on the team doing these missions
actually sounds intriguing.

Marvel NOW is about where the New 52 was in interesting sounding books for me.

That sounds lame. Although civil war was lame as shit, I liked the on the run secret avengers we got from it. This sounds like it can go incredibly bad. Or like they have no plan for how this pans out.

Haven't seen the second GR but the first movie and Avengers are bland boring pieces of shit.

The first Ghost Rider was pretty shit.

Spirit of Vengeance is the superior movie.

I blame this entirely on the first film not using Cage as Ghost Rider. Stuntmen and motion capture actors were used, so all the Cage crazy is missing.

Plus shitty CGI villains, and zero stunt work.

Spirit of Vengeance isn't a great movie, but it's the best damn movie a Ghost Rider fan could hope to have. Like an anchovy pizza. Not for everyone, but anchovy fans will love it.

I'd suggest watching the movie, then watching the director's commentary to explain all the inexplicable craziness you'll witness on your first go round. :P

Except no. Avengers is fantastic.
Nah it's boring except for when Hulk punches stuff. It's the ugliest blockbuster this year. Fucking P.W.S.A. has a better eye than Whedon. It also has the dialogue and acting of a teen high school drama. Which I understand since it was directed by a guy that can't really direct actors.

It's time for a Whine battle Peter Parker vs. Scott Summers, loudest fans wins.

Peter got his entire history wiped after being shitted on for 20 years and still continued to get shit poured on him for a few years.

I question your ability to judge things.

Does one need to see the first Ghost Rider movie before seeing the second or is it ok to jump straight into the second one?

How did Green Lantern emerge from the Nu52? Did Blacknest Night and the Sinestro Wars happen?

The only confirmed events are Kyle being the Torchbearer and hand picked by Ganthet, a form of Blackest Night (as a lot of the characters involved don't exist anymore), and War of the Green Lanterns. Like everything else, the GL books have been condensed into the same 5 year period--we know from GL 13 that Kyle has only had a ring for 2 years.

Nothing about the Sinestro Corps War or beyond have been addressed, and at least one plot development from Brightest Day seems to have been retconned away as there has been no mention of Carol being Queen of Zamaron.

Also, nothing about Parallax or the rest of the entities has been mentioned or alluded to. At the GL panel they said there is zero chance of them appearing anytime soon.

Don't get CaptYamato started on The Avengers. He's second only to GJB on bitching about it, and since GJB doesn't seem to be around anymore, I think he got a promotion.

I don't know about this new secret avengers team.

Not everyone is gonna like them on it, but I'm all for
Taskmaster though. Mercs can be paid to be on any team. Look at Deadpool. Screw the haters
.

Not really feeling the twist.
Wonder if they'll have panels where Clint is wondering why he has a broken arm or a bullet wound. You'd think being some of the worlds leading covert agents you wouldn't be able to pull shit like this on them.

Spirit of Vengeance being another terrible Cage vehicle aside, it does have a pretty great depiction of the Rider. If i could stomach another watch it might be interesting to hear the reason behind the weird scenes where they cut out the background in favour whoever is on screen.
