They fucked Blue Beetle royally. Fucking latino protagonist, no, an entire latin cast, just about. And they had the dude fighting talking clocks? Shit man. Fuck. First they kill my fucking man Ted, then they give me Jaime, and I even accept it cause it's ok. Then they decide to shoot the dog in the head and violate the body. Why? Why Gaf? They finally do something right, diversity, cool new direction, but then 'hey, let me stick my thumb in it.'

The sad reality may just be that characters like Blue Beetle aren't leading men.

It would be like giving Squirrel Girl her own book.

They're like Jason Statham, good as a side; but not as a main dish.

i was unimpressed with the first 2 issues of blue beetle and lost legion. i have to give it to dc for getting a bunch of lesser known series to at least 12 issues, though.

Just read the preview on the new Nova..

Do they have to be print?

Comixology might be the best place for digital comics. Or the very least the best known. If you are only interested in super hero stuff, Marvel and DC both have their own digital comic store. I don't know how either of them are.
He will come around....

hmm...I wonder...

Do comic book subscriptions still exist? I never see any advertisement for it anymore and I guess I just noticed this right now.

I love Mudman, it's quirky and fun and full of mud.

Pretty sure Marvel still has some, DC i think as well.

So it might just be easier and cheaper to check out some local comics stores. I am
In the greater LA area after all. I'm trying to get the first couple issues of Red Hood and the Outlaws.

Another question though; is it typical for comic stores to mark up back issues? This store I went to did for some of the back issues that came out like 6-10 months prior. They were in a sealed bag with board I should add.

It happens, sometimes. Usually when the title is a shorter print run and popular, and especially if its "first edition". I've especially noticed this as I've gone back to look into getting an Aquaman run. Can't seem to find a 1-10 first print for less than $70.

I've never seen back issues marked up unless they're variant covers or rare. I go to a shop that bags and boards for free which is rad :P. It's not a good shop for trades(such a shitty selection and they never seem to get new product in) but for new issues it's perfect. They have tons of Invincible back issues which I've been slowly collecting.

ebay selling adventures:

auctions or sale?

Red She-Hulk is in my dead pool.

low production value and you can't even get the solicited artist to pencil the debut issue? Shit gonna be cancelled soon.

damn, i was planning on going back & finally reading all the cosmic marvel (annihilation/etc) stuff i missed, this new nova book has all the fans of that stuff weeping though. should i still go back & check it out? which events/books specifically are the best? War of Kings, Thanos Imperative, etc?

Hobby shops have a horrible reputation when it comes to even having a website and much fewer even have one that's useful. Webpage, facebook, and twitter that's updated at least once a week should be the bare minimum in 2012.

You guys are probably used to this, but this one local comic shop's website I found pretty hilarious.

12 years without an update lol. Sure, I'll buy all of your FoWs for $2 each please.

Guardians of the Galaxy might be better than Nova *cries*. Annihilation was the best, then Silent War. I had problems with War of Kings and Thanos Imperative, War of Kings was especially a case of more hype than content. The best "marvel cosmic" stuff to be released lately was Hickman's Fantastic Four/FF book.

Oh guys, I am gonna need to ask you all to promise me you at least rule of 3 this new morbius book. There are like no magic books right now. I need this.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but the only cosmic story really worth checking out is the original Annihilation. imo, it's one of the best things Marvel put out in the last decade.

Are we talking about the Marvel Morbius vampire scientist? JL Dark is the most magic-ee book right now.

That's bullshit Bandy, sorry. :/ I've been reading Blue Beetle comics for decades. "Not a leading man." Every incarnation has been worthy of a book. (They make books about fucking talking/fighting anime flowers dude. Flowers. DC does.) I think that's up to a decent writing team, and a publishing mandate, and an appreciative reader base to decide. But instead hasty pudding DC is cashing in their chips so they can go play video poker.

edit: anime fruits..sorry. (see:"Seedless".)

I should rephrase that. It's the only Marvel magic book announced (as far as I know). He is apparently going to be exploring the more super natural parts of the Marvel universe, so I expect that despite him not being super natural in origin, he will open the door to that regardless. Is JL dark good, by the way?

Initial JL Dark by Milligan was okay but i'm liking it more since Lemire took it over at issue #9 and Frankenstein is joining the group soon too.

Screw you!

If jerks like Gambit can somehow get their own book, Squirrel Girl should too. :(

And it will be drawn by Frank Quietly. D:

Eh - 12 issues, a year is a pretty good run. Not what I'd call hasty at all.

Okay, how about crusty old BB fans want their old BB back and resent the new BB, and since comics aren't targeting kids, marketing to kids, and generally reaching out to a new audience to get them into comic shops the Blue Beetle readers are too busy reading Naruto. :X

Which is another catch-22 since manga tweens just steal everything. :|

For DC's New 52 initiative supposedly being a good jumping on point for new readers, they've since really gone out of their way to make it as impenetrable as possible with all the shitty, pointless crossovers. Makes it really hard to cherry pick which titles you want to read.
It's my biggest bitch about the big 2. The crossover cash grab is chasing me away, and when I find so much gold at indie publishers it's hard to go back.

I keep thinking the long term effects of this strategy is eventually going to bite them in the butt, but then I look at the sales charts and realize how much I'm in the minority. Crossovers work, and they've been doing it consistently since the 90's. Gotta deal with it, cuz it ain't going away.

I think you can make a case either way with the 52 crossovers, but I'm thinking they are trying to create a universe of connections, and continuity. That's hard to do if all the books are self contained.

I'm also taking that most readers want to see when Batwoman meets new Wonder Woman, etc.
