PolitiFact says this about 47%
"Romney said at the fundraising event that "47 percent of Americans pay no income tax."

He didn’t specify federal income tax, and many states do levy their own income taxes. But since Romney was referring to a sector of the entire American population, we think it’s clear he was talking about federal taxes.

Research by the Tax Policy Center supports his claim. The think tank found that many Americans are so poor that they owe no taxes, and others qualify for enough breaks and exemptions to reduce their liability to nothing. Another report by the Joint Committee on Taxation from 2009 found an even larger share of Americans who owed nothing."

What's the Libya thing about? I keep seeing it mentioned but I missed what happened.

Obama said he called the Benghazi attack a terrorist incident in the Rose Garden the next day. Romney challenged him on it, not believing he did. Moderator stepped in and said actually the President did say it. Crowd went wild.

Hm, I don't think there's been a lot of dispute about the actual accuracy of the percentage who don't pay federal income taxes

Wow, you say Romney won and then post this. You're either a troll or you're either a troll.

Romney lost the election on that Libya comment.

He looked like an absolute fool and got laughed at.

And that's what should have been his strongest topic.

You don't attack someone on showing sympathy to families of the dead, which is basically what he did by pointing out going to political fundraisers. He's the President in the middle of an election year, it seems like a bitch move to attack him on that point.

His whole demeanor changed. His facial expression changed. His eyes stopped moving so much. Who knew he was such a bully?

Angry black man.

And Romney is the Phillip Rivers of debaters.

Just heard a 'teacher' on cspan call in saying Obama doesn't know what it's like to be a normal person because of his salary, and yet Romney makes more than him...

Then said he would vote for Romney.

I don't understand.

I've never donated to a campaign, but I did tonight because the thought of Romney being president is nauseating.

Obama is the voice of reason. Romney's campaign appeals to the masses whose only thought processes related to the election involve abortion, gay marriage, "tax cuts," and ensuring that the religious agenda stays ahead. That's not what will bring progress and future enlightenment to this country.

That isn't the point. Nobody is disputing the 47% number.

The flashpoint is Romney's characterization of those people.

I find it offensive that we the people get lied to but hey.... 4 more years of this tripe in this thread anyways.

And Romney doesn't?

Let's go to war with China because the dude declaring war seems really confident and makes me feel like a strong American.

The problem isn't whether the figure is accurate. It's the fact that Romney basically says that these people don't pay such taxes because they're moochers and he shouldn't bother trying to court their votes because they'll only vote for Obama to protect their ability to mooch.
