Only being 4 issues into a 6 issue series the book in writing alone has already delivered an amazing coming of age story filled with so much fire in it that you can feel some of the emotional release
Sean Murphy (artist/writer) is going through when he wrote this. Trying to sell anyone on this book is tough because even giving away a flicker of what the first issue is like and what the set up is is such a rotten thing to do. That page I posted only works in the context of trying to drum up interest with something that doesnt make too much sense (or perhaps you're taking this page too literally?) The title is deceptive, you don't need to care too much about jesus and you don't have to like Punk Rock. It challenges both groups dogmas while wrapping it in this fantastic fantasy/science non-fiction that is both absurd, but such a odd treat to wrap your head around.
And don't get me started on the art. I'm just a huge Sean Murphy fan and even if his writing did suck (which it doesnt) that art, in ever page is so jam packed with detail, inks that stand bolder and stronger than most color books and such amazingly rigid fluidity (yes) to everything he does. Color would be a dis-service to the book and what it's trying to do. Just like old Punk zines, it feels like you would find this thing stapled by hand to the back of an interview with The Faction. It's beautiful and matches the energy of the writing so well that I have to savor every page.
It's absolutely wonderful.
