I dunno why I keep trying to draft Rakdos x-x

Cause every time I do I get stomped by azorius fliers.
Got so pissed last night. Had the perfect Rakdos mana base, 3 Rakdos Gates and Blood Crypt, but only Rakdos Shred guy and some jank R/B cards (total of 11 creatures and spells). Ended up trying a crappy WUg defender deck with 3 of the U guys that cause them to discard and 3 Axebane Gaurdians. Ended up losing to Rakdos three times, just to add insult to injury.

Annihilating Fire my own Volatile Rig.

Too bad I won the flip but it would've been a great sweeper if I lost it.

Have 8 swamps, go two games without drawing a single one.

I would've mulled more aggressively if I wasn't up against another RBU deck.

I feel like Jund Midrange is pretty solid. It has the damage to put pressure on slower decks, and enough beefy creatures/removal to survive the aggro decks. It can even pack dedicated GY hate without messing up its consistency too much for Angel of Glory's Rise or Frites.

Also it has Thragtusks, for when you get into a Thragtusk war, although you'll probably lose that war to Resto Angel + Thraggy.

My plan for this weekend is to overdose on RtR draft.

My plan following that is to either build a Jund deck or a Rites deck. Not sure which yet, but I think they're both well positioned at the moment.

And it can run Slaughter Games! Which is the most consistent Miracle hate I can think of.

Hey all! I'm only a few months into Magic and am just starting to build my own decks. I took a crack at one (found online that I altered) and was wondering if you could give some feedback. Thanks!

Description: Lifelink/Deathtouch reaction deck with mostly flyers
Creatures:
Sublime Archangel x1
Xathrid Gorgon x2
Rhox Faithmender x1

Vampire Nighthawk x4
Shimian Specter x2
Sunspire Griffin x3
Aven Squire x3
Seraph of Dawn x3
Daggerdrome Imp x3

Vault of the Archangel x1
Swamp x8
Plains x9
Evolving Wilds x3

Elixir of Immortality x1
Murder x4
Ring of Thune x2
Ring of Xathrid x2
Ethereal Armor x2
Sign in Blood x2
Swift Justice x2
Blood Reckoning x2

Much thanks!

So, I finally built a Rites deck after all this time. I still don't have some of the ideal cards (eg, no Angels of Serenity), but damn is there ever something satisfying about seeing a Griselbrand on the board on turn four. And you know what's awesome with Griselbrand? Deadbridge Goliath. 12/12 lifelink flying at your face that draws me 7 cards a turn? Yes please. Land base is still lacking a few duals, but it handles itself well enough.

This is the list I'm working off right now, obviously still a WIP but it still plays really well as is:

Creatures:
1 Armada Wurm
3 Griselbrand
0 "Derp I'm an Idiot"
2 Deadbridge Goliath
3 Restoration Angel
3 Lotleth Troll
4 Centaur Healer
4 Thragtusk

Spells:
2 Oblivion Ring
3 Mulch
4 Farseek
4 Unburial Rites
4 Grisly Salvage

Lands:
1 Gavony Township
1 Plains
3 Isolated Chapel
3 Sunpetal Grove
2 Temple Garden
2 Overgrown Tomb
2 Swamp
4 Woodland Cemetary
5 Forest

EDIT: Oops! Didnt even look at that part of the card! Well good thing I've only played it against myself today so far! Man that would have been awkward showing up to the shop with that. Guess I'll just throw another Griselbrand and Restoration Angel in there for now.

You might want to read Worldspine Wurm a little closer, you can't unburial rites it making it stone unplayable in your deck.

What Reanimator has done to deck building:

*sees epic creature* "I've seen all I need! Throw that shit in the graveyard!"

I've made this mistake as well in the past. -_-

Pocked up 10 packs, got a jace, a trostani, and a dreadbore

Im willing to trade the jace to someone on gaf for some trostanis though

Anyone up for a really low-rent GAF Fantasy Pro Tour? If you're not familiar with what it is, you're trying to predict the results of the upcoming Pro Tour by picking one card from 10 different categories, and you get scored based on how many times those cards appear in the Top 8. A little silly, but fun.

I threw together a quick Google Docs form to record your choices:

Yes, I'm aware that Wizards has a Facebook page for this. But Facebook sucks.

Wait, PT RTR is Modern and Booster Draft, are we picking from both those cardpools or?

I only play standard... ._.

It's all I know!!!

And dear god, my Tie Breaker Player is Birds of Paradise..... I didn't see "player" I guess? Time for bed I says.

Please keep my choice as BoP. It's hilariously dumb.

Dear diary,

Today GAF picked on me in the magics thred.

I'll show them. I'll show them all.

Birds of Paradise will win the Pro Tour.

Love Always,

zethren

Really, the creatures and planeswalkers are no brainers, it's the sorcery/instant/enchantments that will be interesting.

Yeah, I'm a semi regular poster on mtgsalvation. Thanks for the other sites too.

Honestly, I just don't play anything other than Standard so when it comes to any expanded formats I usually just resort to Standard-ish. Lol

Enchantments and Artifacts are really where you should look for an edge. So few of those get played that if you manage to snag a few, it could easily be enough to put you over the top.

EDIT: Also, there's no reason you can't pick something someone else has already picked.

Also, reposting since it just got buried on the last page:

I'll accept entries through the end of Friday. (EDIT: For clarification - through the end of Day 1; yeah, that gives you a preview of what's to come, but I don't think it's too much information.)

Ooh yay. This will be fun. I already put in an entry on their Facebook thing but I can do it here as well.

Disclaimer: Very little knowledge of Modern.

Real excited to see what Modern looks like. I wonder if a deck like Eternal Command will work in a Metagame that doesn't just consist of the best players in the world! My Guess is that Storm and Valakut will make up some 40% of the field, and will fail to take any players to the Top 8

Graphic tees and blazers... sigh.
The in house casters add so little to the game if you know the format a bit. Zac Hill is OK I guess.

Sweet Micheal Jacobs took down PVDDR. Jacobs has the best stream on Twitch for magic, nice to see him do well.

Yea they are pretty awful. I like Marshall Sutcliffe though, but they don't use him enough.
