Pretty terrible trailer. Show some real gameplay instead of this scripted BS.
There needs to be a crossbows only game mode.
To everyone who thought this trailer was bad, you guys must have REALLY hated the old BFBC2 trailers. This was a concept trailer to stopgap until after EA's marketing machine finishes up with Medal of Honor Warfighter and still had quite a good bit of info in it. The thing is, these maps won't look as good in montage as AK maps did.

Ultimately, I think my point is that the other packs are worth it but you need to understand what kind of player you are. Different folks have different strokes; some love to drive, other love to snipe, some like certain maps that allows more team play, whilst others prefer something more enclosed for faster and frantic gameplay. If you are an all-rounder person then the Platinum Pack is definitely for you, and this Aftermath pack is giving me the impression that it will again have something for everyone. I dont think you can go wrong with the Platinum pack but if you are picky then pick wisely by seeing what kind of player you are first, then select the pack thats right for you.
Oh yes, one more thing... When you play the game try slowing yourself down a little and always seek cover before exposing yourself to your enemy or the open. This isn't Quake nor COD after all... think about this aspect and your skills might improve. I know my skills improved because last night I obtained over 80 kills in one session boy that felt so goood!
So Scavenger is like every deathmatch mode ever, before COD4 changed things and every FPS went with customizable loadouts.
Except it's not deathmatch. Or even team deathmatch. It's conquest. This should make map flow much different and more interesting based on weapon locations. Since there's no guarantee on what you're getting, it should also prevent whining when someone gets the "Golden Gun" or something. So Scavenger is like every deathmatch mode ever, before COD4 changed things and every FPS went with customizable loadouts.
Well, compared to the other ones, this didn't have much in the way of expectations going in since there was a mystique on exactly what this expansion was about. DICE wanted to set the tone before the gameplay, if only to give an idea of the rough-and-tumble aesthetic they're going for. It also doesn't help what with the proximity to Medal of Honor and whatnot, so if you thought it was a little low key compared to the others, that's probably what they were going for.Yeah, but this trailer could have been for any map from vanilla BF3. It didn't show off anything from the expansion pack, except for being set in one of the "new" maps.
I'm sure the launch trailer will be boss, but this was underwhelming compared to their other trailers.
Actually how you described yourself is kinda like me, i dont like big maps, 64 player servers, etc.
So looking at it that way makes me want to try close quarters, and thanks for the tips man, i will give the game another try.
BRRRRRRM - In the future, even the crossbows are computers - BRRRRRRM
Is there any way to justify a crossbow in a game like this, for real? Seems a bit of an outdated weapon in the 21st century.
It's relatively silent (silencers don't work that well IRL).Is there any way to justify a crossbow in a game like this, for real? Seems a bit of an outdated weapon in the 21st century.
The concept behind Aftermath is that everyone is fighting after an earthquake. That's why all the uniforms are ripped and everyone is hurt. The vehicles are makeshift civilians trucks and it's also reflected into the weapons. It's also just a cool thing to have in the game. A nice change from bullet based stuff.
So they found brand new crossbows in the rubble?

I think I'll pick up the "GOTY" edition of BF3 with all the DLC. (If EA actually makes one)

Aftermath introduces the makeshift crossbow. Inspired by real life military engineering ingenuity, this crossbow is created by taking the stock of a malfunctioning assault rifle and assembling with the other parts needed, like a piece of wire for the string (maybe found inside a broken down car), some scrap metal for the bow mechanic and a scope. Just add duct tape, and you have a new and silent way to deliver deadly force to the enemy. We will return with an in-depth look at the versatile crossbow and its many uses soon here on the blog, so stay tuned.
Does anyone know if we'll be able to use the uniforms in the trailer on all maps?
