20 Years LttP: Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks fans should check out the BD version of Blue Velvet put out a year or two ago. It has over a half hour of rediscovered content that had previously been cut. Lots of the footage is weirdo "small town" stuff, much of it very similar to what he'd do a few years later in Twin Peaks.

There are more thorough descriptions and summaries around the web, but:

Pretty sure this is the best description I found. The BD is cheap if you want to actually see the stuff:

I'm a about 6 episodes in. Man I feel so sad for Leland Palmer(Laura's dad). I feel terrible for laughing at him every time he loses it :p

Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey. A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you? If the words sound queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey, sing "mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy".

You guys weren't kidding about these episodes in the second series... nothing seems to be happening at all. At least Donna is stunning.

after about 5 episodes of the first season, I didn't care anymore about who killed laura palmer, I just wanted to spend an hour each week amongst these strange and wonderful characters.

I simply want to live in Twin Peaks now. At least I'll be living in Washington sometime next year, so that's a step in the right direction!

lol James.

Made the second season almost unbearable!

I miss the good old days when Lara Flynn Boyle was still pretty. Her face is so fucked up nowadays, what a shame.

Agreed. She's a knockout in that old picture with the other two hotties.
Now not so much :/

I'm all over this.
Love Blue Velvet.

I just finished the first season yesterday.

It's a nice show and Dale is a cool character. I like the setting. Not my favorite recently-watched TV show but a nice change of pace from the likes of the NBC comedies, Walking Dead, Dexter, and my full run-through of Six Feet Under.

People talk about things getting bad in Season 2 but you know what? Even with my favorite shows there are lulls to get through.

9 episodes to go - and these are actual spoilers so don't be like me and highlight them for kicks!

Leo is back up from his chair, seeing owls and shit.

The major got kidnapped by an owl or some shit.

Some woman with a dodgy tooth fell in love with James.

It's not all bad I guess...

Just seen Cooper's ex-partner in some cabin and Donna is still a mega babe.

I thought that was one of the best moments in season 2.

Just finished s2, what a hot mess this show turned out to be. James can die in a fire. The last episode was at least interesting.

I just finished the first episode of Season 2. Everyone was right. Simply amazing show so far. I will say I'm not a fan of how they pace the first episode of Season 2 though; I guess it's because they have an extra hour of time, but it just feels super-slow in comparison. Love the show's regular pacing.

Also, Pete is the greatest man to ever live.

Give me Peggy Lipton. Just perfect. Actually, her daughter is perfect, but Peggy is pretty damn alright. Especially back then.

God I love that scene. Sheer brilliance.

Ok so..... what the fuck?

Yeah, that's about the size of it.

Well now, I'm not gonna talk about Judy. In fact, we're not gonna talk about Judy at all. We're gonna keep her out of it.

I think I made it throught three episodes after the main mystery is solved and couldn't keep watching. The show becomes so lame and silly in the second season after that.

Still, before that point, it's the best fucking tv show ever.

Hanging in there for the finale is worth it. Like nothing else in TV.

I've always wondered whether James was the worst miscasting in history or if he was pretty much exactly as David Lynch intended him. If they'd reversed the casting for James and Bobby I think both would have been far more credible characters. And if James hadn't been so ... wrong, the off-the-rails part of S2 might not have been so bad.

Perfect casting.

Just watch the last episode and the movie. I think the movie is better than the TV show.

I think your opinion on the movie depends on what you see in and get out of Twin Peaks. I personally think the movie is a lot closer to the heart of Twin Peaks than most of the tv series. Lynch was left with few options after the killer was revealed midway through season 2. The finale and FWWM brought Twin Peaks back I feel. How FWWM was received really was a travesty. At the very least it's fantastic from a technical standpoint.

Movie is genius and, despite being so creepy and brutal, offers some hope.

Cooper is in a time loop of sorts, he might be able to win eventually.

Ya, after the "resolution" mid-second season it started to drift. Bringing in new characters like that cougar woman and the guy played by Billy Zane kinda polluted the waters. Windom Earle was also better as an "invisible" antagonist.

It also would have been nice if they had kept to the intended Cooper-Audrey storyline, but the network meddled too much.

But even with all the lack of direction, it was still amazing at its core. I was sad when there was no more left to watch.

I'm on episode 24 of Season 2...and I'm hesitant to watch because I know it's going to end soon...):

From what I've seen, this is single-handily the greatest television series I've ever had the chance to watch. Everything is near perfect and I just get completely sucked in every time I watch. I just know I'm going to be sad when I reach the end and it doesn't even feel like the end though.

I'm on Season 2, episode 17 right now.

The "lull" isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Though the James subplot does seem a bit pointless. I take all the side character stuff as "character moments" and move on.

That said, while I'm enjoying the show overall, I don't feel the way that A LOT of people seem to feel about it. For many it sounds like Twin Peaks is an A+ show and is in the top 5 shows of all time. I'm not really getting that vibe. For me it's more of a B+ or A- sort of show, but maybe that's because it just doesn't resonate with me the same way.

It's charming, has a good variety of characters, has a pretty unique setting, and is curiously weird at times. I can see why there's high likability here, but the experience isn't magical for me.

Wait for the end.

See it's already "A+" for me. I'm hooked so bad that I didn't even think Season 2 had a "lull" until I saw people talk about it on here. Sure, James' subplot is kind of dumb and pointless in the end, but it's just something to mix it up I guess.

To me this is easily one of the greatest shows of all time to me. I always avoided this show because I thought it wasn't going to be my cup of tea, and expected it to be highly overrated, but I absolutely fell in love with it from the first episode on. It grabbed me and it hasn't let go for...I think a few months now. I always look forward to coming home and watching an episode or two on Netflix.

This easily has the best cast of characters in any show that I've seen. I love every single character like I would a favorite character in a game or movie. Even most of the jerks have flaws that make them likable as the show goes on. Not to mention besides a few mentioned in the James subplot, I've loved every single character that has been added.
