Why should a non-Halo fan care about Halo 4?

Honestly I'm slightly baffled by the hype around Halo 4 and find myself wondering if I've already had enough Halo.

I played through every Halo game for the first time consecutively in 2010, so I haven't gone through over a decade of indoctrination like the fans have, and I just don't feel like I need more of it after Reach. That game to me seemed like it filed down the tenants as well as they could be. I still don't think any Halo campaign has surpassed that of Combat Evolved pre-Library. And thus, to this day, the only two games in the series that I own are Reach and Anniversary. I don't care about any part of the canon after the end of Halo 3 and have actively tried to ignore any additions to the lore since then. I personally liked it when it was just Humans vs Covenant which is why Reach is my favorite story in the series - it was simpler... and didn't have The Flood.

If it's for multiplayer, well I haven't had nearly enough experience with Halo multiplayer, literally only poking my head into Reach for a bit. Seems like a very well-crafted game and Halo 4 looks very nice visually. I've wanted to try out online firefight but just haven't had the time - I love Gears 3 horde though and am still having a lot of fun with that. Maybe the problem is that I'm still having fun with games like that, MW3, Left 4 Dead 2, TF2, etc. I guess Halo 4 multiplayer would have to be good enough to make me transition from all those, especially in the area of firefight. Even if it was that good, would it even be reasonable to not ever touch Halo 4's campaign?

It just felt like a good cap-off for the franchise. Everything I've seen and heard about Halo 4 seems like it's targeted specifically towards people who are way deep into either the lore or eSports aspects of the franchise. I just want to know if the game has anything refreshing to offer anyone who isn't that invested in the franchise, or if it truly is a fans-only thing.

Your OP doesn't even have anything to do with the question you asked. Thanks for making a thread to tell us you don't like Halo though. Really, I feel that Halo 4 has been designed to entice the people who are more informed about the lore of the universe than people who aren't.

This is my exact problem with Halo 4 I think. All the campaign stuff seems to deal very deeply with the lore, which I've grown to care less and less about recently.

Maybe I should watch multiplayer videos, but I've seen pretty much nothing of what the game does to expand the gameplay, go in new directions, or try to recapture the campaign magic of Combat Evolved.

They shouldn't? I can't see any reason why someone would jump onto a series on number 4 unless they are totally different unrelated things like the Final Fantasy series. I would imagine those newer gamers interested would probably at least pick up the previous 3 to play beforehand.

I don't get what you are asking or even trying to say.

Also forcing yourself to like something, that is more on you then the game.

Because it is a new trilogy and new developer.

And the game looks great:

EDIT: And it have a lot of content too.

Why should anyone care about any upcoming awesome game?

Because its awesome.

If you don't want to buy it, then don't. I feel the same about judgement. I own al the Gears games, and love them, yet I'm not really interested in Judgement.

It's cool man, no one is forcing you.

No one is telling you to care. At least...no one's telling me to care, and I don't. I played 3, Reach and ODST and found them to be lacking so I'm out for 4.

Trilogy isn't going to be complete on the 360 so it really depends on if your planning on following it into next gen too. Personally I think the new game looks 'okay' but there are a few issues in whats been shown so far; but overall it looks okay.

I'd only buy for the campaign though; 3 was fun and the multiplayer was only 'okay', lacking any real focus for me. Then ofc they fucked matchmaking up.

So yeah, no ones 'telling' you to be hyped; but whether you are will depend on mainly your wish to follow the new trilogy.

If you're into exp unlocks, weapon skins, perks, killstreaks, random power weapon spawns, grey with shadows, pre-order bullshit, double exp doritos and mnt dew, killcams, loadouts, sprint, wall hack and all that kind of jazz, Halo 4 will be perfect for you.

What I said in another thread plus some more:

I was a little burned out after Halo 3, but I got an old copy of Halo Wars over the summer and I got hooked again on the unique take on the vehicle combat aspect. I was anxious to see what if any new drivable stuff was added. So, they go and make a brand new vehicle! Behold the Mantis!

Also, 10 weeks of free episodic multiplayer DLC!

You shouldn't care. The single player experience isn't fantastic by any stretch of the imagination - I'm not sure an FPS ever will be.

People play Halo for multiplayer. If you don't care for that, then you shouldn't care about Halo.

Halo 4 doesn't have Firefight.

lol @ Halo is best without Flood.

The Flood is pretty much the most important species in the Halo universe, lore-wise. And if done right, the flood is tremendously fun. Reach campaign gameplay is arguably the best in the series, but the missions themselves are inferior to Halo 3 and CE, due to lack of Scarabs and threeway battles.

Worst post ITT.

Halo has a fantastic single player experience, and there is no reason why an FPS can't have one.

People play Halo or the lore and campaign as much as for MP.

Halo 4 has spartan ops, which is superior to firefight in many (all?) ways.

UGH! The fight was finished! We finished the fight! What the hell was left for Halo dude to finish!? >:|

That's my major problem with Halo 4, Bungie pretty much closed the chapter on the convent and chiefer's saga. I don't need more chiefer's with Metroid Prime enemies. :/

I guess it is one of the games with more "content" inside.

I don't care for the multiplayer. The SP campaign is probably decent, hence why it's not a good investment at full price for me.

I always buy my anticipated games (Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, Dishonored, Sleeping Dogs, Borderlands 2 etc..) at full price (55 euros) and Halo 4 is not one of them, simple. I will play it when it's dirt cheap, not otherwise.
I'm perhaps an isolated case but Halo 4 is typically the "20-25 euros or burst" kind of game.

I'm actually interested in Halo 4 because it's NOT developed by Bungie. Bungie makes some really boring single player campaigns. Plus the whole concept of Spartan Ops really appeals to me, as I'm more a co-op than a multiplayer gamer.

So you want a rich campaign, but don't want to keep up with the lore? Ok, you don't need to know anything about the side fiction. It's a new trilogy, with a new story, with new characters, with pretty much new everything.

Why should a non-Halo fan care about Halo 4?
Honestly I'm slightly baffled by the hype around Halo 4....
Ugh? You don't have to like or care about something because others do. Go play something else before turning into that person that dislikes something just because others do. And stop trying to deflate other peoples interest/hype. We get a new Halo nearly every 2 years if that much and this one looks amazing.

They shouldn't. It's the 4th game in the numbered series, up until now if they aren't interested I'm not sure what else they would need to get into it.

I also feel your title is a bit misleading in relation to your actual post. You're not a 'non-Halo fan' ... you seem to just not enjoy the multiplayer aspect and the single player is good enough to enjoy but not good enough to anticipate future iterations.

Don't force yourself to like something. Halo 3, Reach, and ODST MP may be 'different' to the fans but to somebody picking it up for the first time they'll all feel the same. If you didn't like it in 3, you won't like it in ODST and you probably won't like it in Reach or 4. Unless they drastically change things, which thankfully they are not.

Call of Duty isn't quite as boring as Halo, though.

OK.

I play Halo for the SP. Spent most of time playing it. I think it's great. I only played MP heavily in 3, skipped it in ODST and Reach for the most part.

I don't really know what you expect people to say. If the game doesn't look fun to you, then don't buy it.

I think we'll find out once it releases, the game is done by a new studio with few "loose strings" to work with, as for the multiplayer adding new features and gadgets will require exhaustive testing to make sure it fits well with the feel and content of MP.

I think it's relevant to follow for any Console FPS gamer.

I can't stand the Halo series. I played Halo 1 and 2 cco-op with friends because I was forced to, and I found them to be mediocre and bland. I could not stand the art design, character or story. I hated the recharging shield mechanic, which made slow, stalking calculated battles impossible and head on charges the norm. I don't like online multiplayer either.

That said, looking at Halo 4, it looks like a completely different game to me. It looks almost like it has a personality for a change. Part of that is the slight Metroid Prime vibe I get from it. I'm not going to run out and buy it on release date, but going from a series that I personally wouldn't even bother to rent to one that I'm actually quite interested in checking out is quite a switch for me personally. I might be wrong, or the gameplay may still turn me off, but I am one VERY opposed to Halo gamer that is now interested.

The sheer amount of content they are including should be commended.

Anyone that feels that games these days are being constantly stripped of content in favor of DLC should support what they are doing with Halo 4.
