Why should a non-Halo fan care about Halo 4?

Holy shit man. This is the first time I have sat down in one sitting and played through halo. the most amazing experience ever man. no distractions, nothing, just Halo in 3D...one sitting!

I think it might be my all time favourite game. how come now other fps comes close? 10 years later!

I just popped in resistance 3 to compare...a 2012 game...it looked dated as hell in comparison.

sadly though, its the only halo game I enjoy.

bungie never was special. hurts to say it but as i look back and look as what halo 4 seems to be, it seems like they were more lucky than they were talented. halo 1 and 2 were flukes due to dead-line rushes. halo 3 was a pretty strong but nothing revolutionary, reach was a diaster.

Glad you said part of what I wanted to.

There have been little hints for a while that Bungie fluked Halo CE. it's come out more in interviews done since they finished Reach.

Reach wasn't a disaster though. I disagree with that part. For me, Reach had the best MP, CE had the best Campaign and 2 had the best story.

4 looks like it might trump them all.

I am not trying to be a troll or anything, but what is really so good about the Halo? I played Halo 2 for years and at the time I loved it (mulitplayer). Looking back on it though, it was nothing special. I am just curious to know why the games get such rave reviews. Again this is a serious question, I am not bad mouthing the game, I enjoyed 1 and 2 in their time.

Hard to describe without coming off like a mindless fanboy.

It's probably no one thing.

The open dynamic combat, the 3 way battles, the genuine weapon variety, the AI, the story/lore, the co-op fun, the MP.

It's so many things.

I've been questioning whether or not Bungie just got lucky and struck gold with Halo's core gameplay for a while; I just don't feel Halo has improved much since Halo CE, as the original Halo is still more fun for me to play (campaign wise) than the newer games despite numerous advancements. However I wouldn't go as far as calling anything confirmed based on seeing videos and screen shots of Halo 4. And I certainly would not call Reach a disaster. Opinions of Bungie's successes with the franchise, failures, and short comings should be saved until after we've not only had a chance to play Halo 4, but digest it as well.

I'd say it's the core gameplay and the sandbox element. The way the game intermingles guns, grenades, and melee with vehicles, mixed with a deep variety in engagement is really unrivaled.

They did this trailer to meet the team, experience is marked under peoples names.

I'm hyped for Halo 4 because I'm a Halo fan. But I'll admit, I'm more excited for Halo 4 than I've been for any game for the last 5 years. It just seems like they're doing everything and saying everything that's right to get me excited and hyped.

Bungie created something special and I hope 343 is up to the challenge, but what more could Microsoft have done to prove to Halo fans that Halo 4 is the real deal? They have created a super dev team and they haven't cheated by jumping to next gen. Halo 4 runs on the same box that Halo 3, ODST and Reach did and I hope it can live up to those games.

Microsoft really does seem to have done everything right with their handling of Halo. They let Bungie go amicably, assembled the best team money could buy, and decided against the nickel-and-dime route by refusing to incorporate an online pass and even making the first season of Spartan Ops free. I also think it's a sound financial decision to fuse some light CoD trappings into the classic formula. I think it will be the best selling Halo game yet, and will potentially take a real bite out of Black Ops 2.

I do have to admit that Halo is one of the games that has managed to stand out amid the endless clones of the last decade - an original hit the success to which has been replicated once, maybe twice. I say this because I played through the Halo games for the first time after having played through all of the games inspired by it, and instantly realized that they all missed the point.

I guess my main problem with Halo 4 is that I just don't have faith in 343 yet. When I heard 343 was taking over the franchise after Bungie's departure I immediately got the sense that Microsoft was just throwing some other people onto the brand in order to keep it afloat without necessarily taking care of the quality, nevermind the franchise trying to live up to Combat Evolved. After so many attempts and so many games, I wonder if I should keep waiting for that to happen (or for the franchise to go in new interesting directions). These concerns are compounded by all the marketing focus on the inner-most depths of the lore which I never really cared for.

Actually, is there a comprehensive list somewhere of the big names that were put on Halo 4?

This has an easy solution: Wait for the game to launch, then read impressions from people you trust.

I worried about this earlier as well, but some of the leaked content of the earlier levels removed my fears, it looks very Halo.

Who says a gamer should care about any particular game? Halo is not a new franchise, and Halo 4 isn't taking it a whole new direction. If you were a fan before, then there's little that would sway you in the new game.

It's a game for the Halo fan, or the FPS fan who doesn't want to play a new CoD this year.

Comments like these always confuse me. I have a huge distaste for machismo and bro-attitude in games, and there's very few moments in Halo that I perceive as such.

The term "dudebro" has very little meaning anymore, if it ever did in the first place. It's always been a lame term, that would be laughed at by anyone who doesn't frequent gaming forums. Almost exclusively used by JPN style game fans and/or gaming snobs still angry about their favorites franchises (and console) not being top sellers anymore.

I was kinda along with you until the random JPN blah blah blah nonsense.
