The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Why why why why why why why.

What the fuck. This is a goddamn kid's game, a temporary fad.
It somehow kind of disturbs me when (what I believe are) adults take this shit really seriously.
Same thing could be said about video games in general or comics or whatever, no? Maybe we don't understand Skylanders, and thus judge it to be a thing for kids only. Same as someone who doesn't understand video games would judge them as kids toys.

You really need to listen to them more wax poetic about drobot if you're labeling their coverage as "serious".

Plus some dudes just like to collect stuff. To have "the complete set". Not because they think it'll be valuable, but just because they think it's cool and like to collect things (I had a brother who used to collect Hot Wheels).

Holy christ, Medal of Honor looks terrible. Narrative made no sense, and it's basically a more boring ripoff of Call of Duty. Looking forward to Danger Close getting shut down for good after this piece of garbage.

You look forward to a studio closing? lol wow

I peeked into the Skylanders OT and realized that Jeff's fascination with that franchise is actually relatively inoffensive.

I kept thinking that I wouldn't be able to scroll further, but then it just kept going. Goodness.

Looks like a really solid kid's game. Not wild about how often roadblocks requiring new figures was popping up, but that's the nature of these things. Looks like a good holiday purchase, if nothing else.
End of the QL made me laugh. Ryan's sad face coupled with Jeff's "I have three spyros." line killed me.

Just started watching the MOH Quick Look. I read in the other GB thread that Brad didn't do so great, so I'll see how that goes.

Also, on the topic of Skylanders, Jeff got a few details wrong in the quick look. The biggest being that you can actually skip text and cutscenes now, which makes the game much more tolerable. But other than that, I wonder how he feels about not really digging the game after dumping $200 or so on it. I like it as much as the first (it's okay), but I refuse to play as any characters that don't have a significant speed boosting ability because the game is indeed SLOW.

looks just as boring as the first game. i don't get this franchise even with the toy novelty. kinda glad i'm not into it considering how addicted some people have become with the figures.

It's a pretty decent Gauntlet clone with Kirby or LEGO style secret stuff hidden around the levels (they don't get into that stuff much in the Quick Look). But it's not ~$130 good, yeah, which is about how much you have to spend to get access to everything. I borrowed a lot of the Skylanders stuff I use to play the game, so I don't really feel bad about it!

Drobot is sad that you think this way. The only action you can take to make him happy again is going to the nearest department store and buying some Skylanders! That will surely brighten his day.

Chop Chop is better, anyway. Drobot's a punk bitch.

You're both wrong:

I still enjoy sandbox shooters like Crysis, Halo and FarCry but linear, super scripted COD style campaigns are not even a little appealing at this point.

Ugh...Patrick, stop saying that they are CGI cutscenes. Maybe they are pre-rendered but it's clearly all engine stuff. We had the same kind of cutscenes in BF3.

What's the difference between CG and pre-render video created in the game engine at a level of detail that can't be rendered in real time?

If they're pre-rendered they're CG. That's what CG means. It doesn't delineate between what engines and assets are used to do the rendering.

Besides, they don't look like in-engine to me. Maybe I just can't tell because of the pleb bitrate, though.

Haven't finished the MOH QL but kind of dislike how they treat what seems like standard/uncommon 360 problems and quirks as purely unique to MOH. Day 1 patch and 2nd disk installation? Isn't that stuff pretty usual to most games? At the very least not something that's like, "Oh great, this game is already so bad", I mean haven't some triple A titles have these things?

Also the music + pizza + patch notes stuff was kinda annoying, but whatever, I don't care that much about MOH to make a fuss.

You obviously do care.

Patrick in particular seemed to go into the QL with an agenda that he was not going to like the game no matter what.
