Hah, that's pretty funny. I guess Jeff recognized it was a solidly made game, just not for him? Or maybe he liked it a bit more than previous ones?

Either-way, interesting considering how much they badmouth that franchise at any given opportunity.

I don't really have that much of an attachment to the series, but it's fun every once in a while with friends. Snake was boss in Brawl.

It was okay at the time. I'd barely paid attention to the game so it was interesting to see what it was about. But yeah, the beta has only a handful of characters and stages, it just wouldn't work for a TNT. Especially not when they've already played the beta and generally aren't interested in it anyway. So yeah, TNT bad and quick look already done. We don't need to see anything more of the game until it comes out.

I'm not much of a playstation person, but they whiffed on the roster. There's not enough throwbacks and they have 3rd party characters to promote upcoming games. A big daddy is hardly iconic of the playstation, as the franchise was a 360 exclusive for like a year. Who wants to play as Raiden.

I am a primary PS3 user. I like the GB crew and I am an annual subscriber. For the PS3 users, TNT has been garbage.

I am NOT saying they shouldn't play Forza, or Trials. Thats FINE. Ok, THAT IS OK.

What I am saying is that when you pick up a brand new, multiplatform title, such as Ass Creed 3, Black Ops2, Need for Speed, Battlefield 3, it would be NICE if the PS3 community was INCLUDED.

I UNDERSTAND that old games such as Guitar Hero 1 won't find a LOT of PS3 users, so I am not saying that they should play that on the PS3.

But if you PLAY, brand new, BLOCK BUSTER TITLES, there are LOTS of PS3 users who are also playing the game. The invite system is NOT broken. Also, I am NOT saying that PS3 should be the ONLY game played. I am saying that the TIME should be EQUALLY split so that the WHOLE GB community can play.


Sorry for the caps, but some people seem to think that I am ragging on the 360 or something. I'm not. But you can't deny that the ratio between 360/PS3 for TNT is vastly skewed, especially for muti-plat games where the GB crew just not seem to give a fuck about PS3 users, for games I am sure they would find PS3 users playing them.

Nobody thinks you're trying to say it should be PS3 only or that you hate the 360. All anybody is saying is that if they're going to play a multiplatform game, they're probably going to play it on the 360 since it's much easier to do it that way. However, we might see them bust out the PS3 for these big games and do a double platform TNT like they used to. There's not really any reason to think they won't do that.

All TNTs are garbage for people outside of the US anyway, and I imagine that crowd is much larger than exclusive PS3 owners in the US. Pour one out for the Europeans and us Australians. Actually, not really, since it doesn't bother me that much.

Seriously, the roster is a fucking mess. I thought it was out next year and they still had a ton of characters left to unveil, that's how bad I thought it was. Don't get me wrong, I think the choices they made for 1st party characters were good- can't moan when Parappa and Fortesque are in- but they could have gone so much further, and the 3rd party choices are laaaaaaame.

Disappointing.

What did you want that wasn't included?

Spyro and Crash seem like obvious oversights. Kinda surprised those two aren't in.
 
Another thing about the PS3 I learned that might be a factor. It's harder to livestream from. You can't use HDMI. I think you can use component, but I can see how the extra steps involved for a relatively low turnout on a show that only runs 1.5 to 2 hours might dissuade them.
 
I never want to play with them.

I wish they said fuck the community and just did stuff like Dead Island and Fortune Street every time

-Lara Croft is a big omission, new one would be fine
-Tomba
-Wander/Ico: is there ANY Team Ico stuff at all?
-Gabriel Logan

Just for a start. Plus the game needs some WipEout, Vib Ribbon, Siren, Gran Turismo, MotorStorm, Everybody's Golf, SOCOM, Journey/Flower, Cool Boarders and even Home love. You make a game about fanservice, then I want some god damn fanservice. Nintendo and Capcom haven't spoilt me, they've set the bar.
 
I don't really see why it's a big deal what they play on. This bit "For the PS3 users, TNT has been garbage." I find crazy, why do you need to have the possibility of playing with them for it not to be garbage? I watch TNT every week, and have never even tried to play with them. Is that seriously what people get out of this? Considering thousands of people watch, and a couple of dozen play, clearly not. Let them play on whatever they want.

I will say that I wish they'd just play games they're passionate about, however. So much of GBs content feels like it's born of obligation, but TNT shouldn't. This should be the freeform jazz exploration of their output.

Yeah, I would have loved to see a Journey/Wipeout level and some Team Ico characters...

Oh well, maybe next time? Or DLC? :/

resident evil started on the ps1, get someone from that franchise. Use the dudes from syphon filter and GTA 3. Raziel from Soul Reaver, crash, and spyro.

Sony's problem is that the playstation burst on the scene and they had superior 3rd party support for two generations. Unlike Nintendo, many of the characters that would be great in this game are third party properties that Sony apparently couldn't get access too.

I'm willingly writing off this first game, but the leap from Smash 64 to Melee was gargantuan, so I'm hoping they make similar bounds for an inevitable sequel.

why is a sequel inevitable?

Super Smash Bros is a monster, as wikipedia says that the first SSB on the n64 sold 5 million copies, and in the top five on the entire console. The sequel sold more than that on the gamecube. Brawl has sold 10 million on the wii.

I find it hard to see this matching it.

How does any of that affect Sony Smash Bros? Did MS make a Forza 2 even though FZ1 didn't sell as much as GT1? Did Sony make a KZ2 even though KZ1 didn't sell as well as Halo? It's irrelevant. Sony will make a sequel unless it's a complete bomb.

They already confirmed Activision doesn't want to play ball so there will be no Crash or Spyro. Same deal with Lara Croft. They don't own the rights to Tomba and Team ICO does not want their characters in the game. Also if you had paid any attention to the game you would know that there is fanservice for some of those other games you mentioned.
 
I'd like to see those examples then! Genuinely, I couldn't find shit. But my point was still clear. By the way, "Team ICO doesn't want their characters involved" is a bullshit excuse for leaving out two of the defining games of Sony's most popular console. Tomba, fair enough, my mistake there.

Getting me to pay attention to the game is their job, though. This should be an easy sell, I fucking love Sony's franchises for the most part, but they lost me somewhere and whenever I've looked at the game again the disappointing fanservice and something fucking weird looking about the actual game itself has kept me away. Not my problem.

I'm not sure why Smash sales matter here. The only way they'd matter is if Sony was setting ridiculously high sales targets based on the sales of Smash.

Which would be dumb. Anyway, like StuBurns said, Sony pull the sequel trigger more often than others, usually in the name of building up a nice franchise portfolio for Playstation, something PSABR definitely helps with.

I actually find that a really great thing. The fact Sony actually gives their creators control of things like that is something we should be applauding. Sony were apparently asking for permission for a Ico/SotC collection for a while before Ueda relented. That's how it should work ideally.

I'm conflicted here, because on one hand, I totally agree. Team ICO should be calling the shots there.

But on the other hand, if Sony are going to make games like PSABR, I'd like them to be able to avoid obstacles like this. So, I guess I'd really just like Team ICO to lighten up? I mean, Itoi lets Lucas and Ness show up in Smash.

The first stage ever revealed for the game is half based on Hot Shot's Golf. There are items in the game from Wipeout and even obscure games like Mark of Kri. You can complain about them not having Gabe Logan and others but if they had put them in at the expense of Sir Dan, Spike, Parappa or others you'd have just as much complaining about them not being in. We can't have every character we want. That's just how it is. I'm not going to crucify them for not being able to fit every single possible character into the game on their first try. I'm just glad the game is fucking good period but I digress. This isn't the thread to be discussing this anymore.

That's fair enough. Mark of Kri is a deep cut in the Sony back catalogue so maybe I've misjudged Superbot's effort. Doesn't stop me feeling a bit put-off by the game in general (I really hope there's a demo) but c'est la vie.
 
I've been checking GB twitters, and lately, it really feels like certain people are trying their hardesto discount them on stuff. Maybe it's because of this stupid Tomb Raider thing, but there's a lot of 'oh you guys didn't mention the harmonix layoffs', 'oh you guys shouldnt review double fine', and a recent one, which seems completely insane, 'oh you gave forza a 5/5 and had codes to giveaway'

Like ... are people thinking they can get their jobs or something? It's always existed, but it's been real bad the past week or so. Good on Klepek specifically for responding to a lot of it.
 
IS the Farming simulator QL up, I don't see it anywhere. Odd, because I also can't find last week's Spookin w/ Scoops. There's just no link in the vsubscriber videos.
 
Giant Bomb app is up on the Windows Store. Pretty barebones right now but the video playback is pretty snappy on my crappy old desktop.

People are on some game journalism integrity kick and want to take the chance to shame everyone in the industry the can. Some of these people are rightfully justified but largely many of them are overreacting or showing off to appear smugly superior. I've seen dudes get tweeted at in a similar fashion, then spammed their own GAMINGNEWZ.blogspot pages (full of the truth!) to various people.

It's a weird time.
 
It's mainly because young people are stupid. They've always been stupid, but twitter gives them a much easier way to express that blatant stupidity.
