People were pretty mild, to be honest. I think there is a level of expectation that someone appears a fan even when the times are tough. Commiserating can be one of the best parts of the sport experience (although we'd all rather that it wasn't necessary).

It's not entirely their fault, but Purdue, MSU, Michigan, Miami, Pitt, and BC are all down/worse than expected this year.
Not to mention the fact that ND barely beat Purdue, Michigan, Stanford, and BYU.
Sure their defense seems to be pretty strong, but I have a hard time seeing how they can win in Norman (or even keep it close) barring Landry derp-ing it up and turning it over 3-4 times.
Nah, ND had been to 3 different BCS bowls.

Do we consider Texas and Texas Tech legit teams? Because I'm having a hard time understanding what exactly is so fab about OU. They lost the only real game on their schedule from where I'm sitting.
Surely they might wipe the fucking floor with the Irish, more power to them, but I don't really see what's driving this idea. Looks like it will be a 24-20 or 24-16 kind of game. An OU blowout would be more surprising than a ND win, imo.

If their strength of schedule was better. If their record was like this and they were doing the ACC 5 game thing I'd be ok with it.
Then again, what if the ACC champion has a loss to their pseudo member and ND doesn't get a BCS invite with equal records?

The big piece that ND is missing that ND doesn't have access to is recruits. ND definitely gets good recruits because of their name, but they're not getting the caliber of recruits that Alabama can because the academic standards at ND are a lot more strenuous. And, those recruits don't want to play in the cold. They'll get a few every year, but it'd take a big name coach to bring enough recruits there to really return ND to where they used to be. A big name coach that could draw in those recruits despite the negatives.
Also, a piece most of us don't want to acknowledge is that ND plays a tough schedule pretty much every year. That's necessitated by their refusal to join a conference. Now that they're a de facto member of the ACC, that could change some. Playing tough schedules plus not having ESS EEE CEEE recruits means I don't see them getting where they used to be in their heyday.

Alabama fans didn't hide. We just yelled at the top of our lungs of how great things used to be, and try to beat Auburn and Tennessee.
I would definitely consider Tech to be a legitimate team. Texas is a maybe. After RRS, I would have said no. But on my list based purely on who has beaten who, they're #5 in the Big 12, so take that as you will.
The BCS in general was an injustice to every conference except for the SEC and ACC.
And I wake up every day thanking Based Swofford that FSU is in the ACC for that.
