Yea, they had attacked (well their thugs anyway) the Council of Reeds earlier and tried to wipe them out. They're just trying to finish the job at that point. Still got a couple of Reeds alive after all.
Celestials have a lot of plans for the universe that they have been working for millions/billions of years. Council of Reeds were messing them up.
Stop reading GAF and continue reading those comics. You are about to reach some of the greatest payoff issues in the last decade of Marvel Comics.

It's worth it at least for Immonen art. Plus it will probably be the main book that features the Extinction team.
Wait and see. I think it's actually a pretty decent story hook but, y'know, Bendis.
