So much drama:

It was a question that implied that if I'm not a racist then what possible reason could I have for voting.

I'm getting out of this dog pile. Enjoy your thread.

Not really, it seemed more like foreigner curious as to the reasoning behind your action.

It really wasn't.
I'm interested, really.

I'll put my cards on the table if it will help?
I'd not have voted Obama, unless I was in a swing state.

I'd be (from the little research I've done) a Jill Stein voter.

I can't see why people would vote for Mitt, so would be interested to know the reasons as to why they did.

I deleted Facebook a few months ago so I came into this topic for the laughs, but it has had the complete opposite effect on me. HOLY SHIT, this country is……….fucked if this is how a sizable portion of our population thinks. I honestly cannot believe some of the things that I’ve seen here. Between the religious drones, and the brazed racism I refuse to believe that I’m the same species as some of these people. How is it 2012 and there are still people (esp. young people) that think like this, seriously!? Come on evolution, fix this shit.

I'm in the same boat...came in for the laughs but now I'm depressed as fuck. As a black man this shit stings. And as someone who, you know, lives on this planet with these people, it just completely sucks out any hope I may have left.

I am of the firm belief that the U.S. has always been like this and the Internet/social media just makes it more visible, which is a good thing. I really don't think this kind of stuff just goes away all on its own, at least not most of the time.

It's not really surprising considering our history and the sheer amount of statistical information we have showing things that are still present like institutionalized prejudice. It had to be coming from somewhere.

Let's be fair, it wouldn't be hard to find many equally cretinous meltdowns if Obama had lost.
I agree there would be nutcase meltdowns from people who are unhinged either result, but I think you are overlooking the the blatant bigotry and racism that is being unveiled. There would not be such had Romney been re-elected.

It was a rude question and so was your comment.

No, it wasn't a rude question. You chose to interpret it in a rude way. From here it looked like a genuine question from someone wanting to know why you made the choice you did if you were willing to share that information. Your reaction to it is probably at least as rude as you took the question to be.

Welcome to Texas.
Someone on my friends list posted this one, except the actual tweet version. Which was not really from Tim Tebow, but from an imposter account. I pointed that out and the fact that the premise was false and got yelled at and unfriended for it. Southern California here, not the deep south

I'm saddened by a family member. My cousin and his girlfriend of 13 years have two kids. They won't get married because if they do, they'll lose extra benefits. Neither of them have worked in over a decade despite no physical or mental barriers stopping them. They live in HUD housing (owned by my uncle), they've been on food stamps, housing, health care, and child assistance for a decade. They've lived their lives to game the system, pretty openly and unrepentantly.

"These fucking niggers like Obama are ruining shit taking all the fucking handouts they can get. Lazy fucking niggers."

He says this completely unironically, despite going out of his way to get as many handouts as he could for the past 10 years. Neither of them pay income taxes and are on welfare because they can be, not because they need to be. He is part of the 47% Romney was talking about. And yet, those fucking black people are ruining everything with their handouts.

They also let their 12 year old son dress up for Halloween in black face and thought it was hilarious. Even though I and another cousin tried to convince both them and their son how that was a terrible idea. He even wanted to wear it to school, and they would have let him, but his school doesn't allow costumes. 12 year old kids dressing up in black face. I can get that they wouldn't get the historical significance. It's not really something taught in schools. But two 30 year olds think it is totally cool to let their kid dress up like that and think it is hilarious? The fuck? I mean, I haven't had much to do with him for years in part due to his life long racist views (even though in the 90s he dressed exclusively in FUBU and listened only to rap) and drug usage (he "dabbles" in crack and is a multiple felon for drug and theft related charges) and none of this is a surprise to me, but fuck.

Like someone else posted earlier, there would. It would just be celebratory.

i don't understand how this got online if both of them are serious about the conversation. unless one of them is not but i couldn't tell from the text.

I was wondering much the same... but to be honest I wouldn't have been surprised if one of them put it online to show how concerned they both were with the future of the country, not realising just how ridiculous it makes them sound.

I dunno about not getting married to continue getting benefits, not sure about that one.

Also the 12 year old dressed up as a black person for Halloween? Not like, a famous black person or something?

Everyone receives government assistance in some form whether via the child tax credit, or subsidized wheat products in your breakfast cereal. Can't make everyone leave the bubble especially if they like it there.

Every weekend, the president of my company sends an email to everyone who works here updating us on the state of affairs. New projects that have been awarded, interest from new clients, etc. Almost all of these include some sort of passive-aggressive complaint about the president's goals and/or policies, especially the healthcare law. I can't wait to read the one he sends this weekend. I was on the phone with him yesterday morning and he was extremely grouchy.

This is disgusting... just had to share it. It was in-person tears, not Facebook tears but still made me want to vomit.

I spoke to someone yesterday that said that it's a good thing that Obama didn't lose, because if they had lost, black people would have rioted. Then he went on to say that if they were smarter they would riot in the good part of town instead of the bad part of town, and that at least they'd only ruin the bad parts of town. I let him have it. I told him I couldn't believe someone who tries to come off as intelligent could let out a screed like that. I told him he embarrassed himself and that he'll never amount to anything if he talks to people with openly racist and ignorant comments like that. He doesn't know me, or my leanings, or the leanings of what I consider to be normal people, apparently. I said if he were my employee I'd have fired him for the comment.

The thinly veiled racism across the last 4 years fucking disgusts me. I thought having a black president would advance the socio-racial maturity in most people. It's done the opposite for people that already leaned in a bad direction. The outward racism in the last 24 hours horrifies me. Yesterday my Facebook was on life support.

People like Pat make me embarrassed to be a human. The human race is a fucking embarrassing joke.

Its 2012 and so many people are living on beliefs 2,000 years old. Time to move on you fucking morons.

When I get a nice compliment like that, I must give my thanks. :)

But when you get a decent, civil question you can't wait to insist it was rude and storm out (while listening outside the door in case anyone mentions you so you can storm back in and out)?

Is it that important I answer the question? We all know how it ends.

The more insane thing is I'm betting most of these people would say they are very religious.

And yet find it very easy to both judge and be disgustingly racist with nary a second thought.

I don't know about you guys but I've enjoyed knocking heads on Facebook lately. It's like picking the wings off flies. Some people can't argue their way out of a paper bag.
