just tell us your own, no doubt well thought out, reasons for voting for Romney. we're not gonna crucify you, we're just curious.

b-b-b-but... crucifying is half the fun and double the trouble (just kidding)

I don't know about you guys but I've enjoyed knocking heads on Facebook lately. It's like picking the wings off flies. Some people can't argue their way out of a paper bag.

neither can an ant man... Let the ants GO! T_T

This has to be the most embarrassing and worrying display of collective idiocy in modern times. I hope it isn't discovered by future civilizations.

I was careful with my wording; I did not say 'equally many'.

I didn't misunderstand you. You're wrong.

The right lives in a reality bubble. They believe their own bullshit. They have idealogues in their ears every day molding their hateful worldview. They have faith that they are righteous and need to save the country from traitorous liberals. When they lose, it is apocalyptic for them. 1000 years of darkness.

I dunno about not getting married to continue getting benefits, not sure about that one.

Also the 12 year old dressed up as a black person for Halloween? Not like, a famous black person or something?

Everyone receives government assistance in some form whether via the child tax credit, or subsidized wheat products in your breakfast cereal. Can't make everyone leave the bubble especially if they like it there.
That is the problem I have with the system and why not every single "Republican" idea is terrible. There is a specific case of a girl I know working minimum wage jobs, getting free child-care & food stamps, but now wants to have another kid. This is not the way any human should think, no matter where you lie on the political spectrum. I am in full support of these social nets in place, but they should be limited-term deals. Maybe 18-24 months worth of assistance, and then either getting booted off of it or offered another program that will help guide them down the road of self-sustainability. I mean 18 months may not even be long enough to get people over that hump if down on their luck, but people in it for 10 years, that is another story.

I am not an avid supporter of either party & pretty moderate, but there are a lot of people on both sides, dems or repubs who leech off the system, but brush that off or sweep the fact they are using the government under the rug.

"The right" is also a huge generalization, and it's not fair to act like all of them have lost it.

Hey, Valnen and Ventron. I didn't see you respond after your repeated requests for explanation about why that "whitepeoplemourningRomney" blog is not racist. In case you missed it, here is the answer you both were looking for. I am eager to hear your responses.

We need to all work together to be less PC.

Because it only involves white people. It makes fun only of white people.
White people is a race.
"Racism" pertains to division by race, hence why those two words sound similar.
Simple enough?

That is not racist.

It would be racist if it made some implication about all white people, but it does nothing of the sort.

Instead, it presents a series of photographs whose subjects are accurately described en masse as "white people."

Enough with the PC bullshit. I thought we had purged that.

This is why I propose Proposition 87, a space laser to be constructed and used to cut a divide between the northern and southern United States.

To believe that there's nobody on the left who lives in a reality bubble, believes their own bullshit, listens to ideologues, believes that they are righteous and need to save the country from evil capitalists etc. etc. etc. is to be delusional, possibly to Orson Scott Card levels.

I choose not to be delusional.

I get why this is upsetting, but it's the greatest trick the devil ever pulled. I don't in any way envy someone making minimum wage having to support a kid. Entitlement spending is a small piece of the pie, it just happens to be a more visible piece.

She only gets five years LIFETIME max on welfare.

I'm saddened by a family member. My cousin and his girlfriend of 13 years have two kids. They won't get married because if they do, they'll lose extra benefits. Neither of them have worked in over a decade despite no physical or mental barriers stopping them. They live in HUD housing (owned by my uncle), they've been on food stamps, housing, health care, and child assistance for a decade. They've lived their lives to game the system, pretty openly and unrepentantly.

He says this completely unironically, despite going out of his way to get as many handouts as he could for the past 10 years. Neither of them pay income taxes and are on welfare because they can be, not because they need to be. He is part of the 47% Romney was talking about. And yet, those fucking black people are ruining everything with their handouts.

They also let their 12 year old son dress up for Halloween in black face and thought it was hilarious. Even though I and another cousin tried to convince both them and their son how that was a terrible idea. He even wanted to wear it to school, and they would have let him, but his school doesn't allow costumes. 12 year old kids dressing up in black face. I can get that they wouldn't get the historical significance. It's not really something taught in schools. But two 30 year olds think it is totally cool to let their kid dress up like that and think it is hilarious? The fuck? I mean, I haven't had much to do with him for years in part due to his life long racist views (even though in the 90s he dressed exclusively in FUBU and listened only to rap) and drug usage (he "dabbles" in crack and is a multiple felon for drug and theft related charges) and none of this is a surprise to me, but fuck.

ok.. and THAT PARTICULAR post is what got you upset with your cousin?

So your insight is that there would definitely be at least one person on the left who would freak the hell out on the level of the most whacked out rightwing meltdown, therefore 'let's be fair'?

I don't disagree, I just think Republican's can be very dramatic about the consequences of another Obama term when the first term was objectively good. Whereas libs are not free from hysteria, it may be partially excused due to living through a terrible eight years under Bush. Whereas Republican hysterics are based almost entirely on "empty chair" syndrome.

I would assume many Republicans would call his past four years "objectively bad." It's probably best not to bring that weird "objectively" into the discussion.

I was in no way in support of anything Romney said, he lied every chance he could get. That sucks having a kid on a minimum wage job, but I feel like its a luxury to have a child in the first place. I get "stuff happens", but like I said, more than 5 years on this assistance seems to point the idea that these people have gotten comfortable being on this assistance. Now I hate the people who give the line "they are driving around in a new Lexus, have an iPhone & designer purses", but there is an undeniable problem here.

A huge counter point and a huge problem i have is that I think there is also a lot of blame put on the employers that are not paying livable wages or giving any sorts of benefits. It is sad that someone can work 40-50 hours a week and still not be able to support themselves in a 1-room apartment. And there is not even a child in that picture.

Its also one of the most publicized. Both the poor AND the rich take advantage of the system that is set in place. I dont like people that are leeching on the government for years on end more than anybody else, regardless of race, but it is something we need to factor in that will happen. But in the grand scheme of things, it is such a small, negligable part of the pie. Cutting these people off of government support won't benefit anybody, it certainly won't magically solve all of America's problems.

I, too, believe that this is the biggest problem America faces right now. I can't see how anybody can claim that people who are on welfare due to this crisis are lazy, incompetent, leeching bums. They are victims of the bottom line. It really is infuriating.

The racism that has shown up over the past 24 hours is also a big problem.

Pick your battles Wolfgun. iapetus isn't wrong. Watch MSNBC if you need proof. There are crazy liberals that are out of touch with reality, too. The difference is they are less vocal and blatantly outspoken about their ignorance than the right wing crazies.

I guess we've reached the end of the line on the fun train and have reached the station where we tear each other apart. Partisanship is so much fun!

I think it's fair to say the Bush presidency was objectively bad. You can retract my positivity over Obama's first term if you like.

ie Liberal hysteria over war with Iraq v. Conservative hysteria over the Affordable Care Act.

UK GAF here again...

I've been reading an awful lot on both sides about the "stupid half of America" voting for one candidate or another. I know the US tends to get really anal about voting statistics, so are there any out there which show this one way or another?

Maybe percentage of university graduates who vote Republican or Democrat?

I have a friend in VA who is very Christian and intelligent. HE posted on FB about how if we were really Good Christians, we'd have no problem with social services helping those less fortunate than us. Christianity is, after all, based on charity.

His friends didn't like that. I rebutted- please note that I am brown. It went back and forth, got called out for being dumb, so I went for the throat with a shot at his community college education (fuck the high road):

Brian wrote: "Lil guy Jon. I do show pride in my community college cause my skin color will get me farther then you will ever get being the a terrorist.. Second, I don’t care who your voting for.. You just better be happy and appreciate that we allow little sandy paky ass to vote in the US.. when really YOUR type votes don’t matter to anyone!! realize that!! You’re an outcast in US.."

OK!

Despite the NDAA, repeated federal actions against legal marijuana facilities in CA, constant drone attacks & his lack of aggression at curbing Wall St, I voted for OBAMA.

Why?

-He wants to reduce the tax load on the middle class, and raise it on those making more than 500k / year.
-He supports continuing affordable student loans, social security and medicare - all good things in my eyes.
-He supports women's equality and rights - and I love women, mostly my mom, sister and girlfriend.
-He has come out in support of writing a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United.
-He'll put 2 liberal supreme court justices up.

-Romney is a Karl Rove, Koch Brother prop - like GWB.
-When the economy recovers - as it is projected to do - if Romney was in office, he'd take credit and the supply side bullshit trickledown economics joke played on those not in the know would pay off. People would think the GOP is right and continued to get fucked by em.

Why did I vote for Obama? Because I'm a Good American Citizen. If you voted for Romney, you just can't say that.

I was wondering this myself: how many of those who are slandering benefit recipients are themselves on similar government assistant schemes? The most consistent and common complaint about Obama voters was that they wanted those handouts, so I'm assuming these Romney voters all have an income from a job and are on no benefit system?

Look at a map.

Notice how most of the places that foreigners like to visit voted Democrat.

Fox is citing the hispanic vote, as well as the youth and women vote, as the main factors. Obama ran away with hispanic voters, winning over 70% of their vote

A lot, take my co-worker's barber this morning, who says "it's all over now because they lazy and entitled will continue to live on the dole" To which my co-worker discovered through conversation that the barber was on Social Security....

MSNBC? For real?

It was a false equivalence, flat out.

This right here, is one of the main reasons I wanted Obama to win. I really didn't want Romney to take credit for what good Obama has done for the recovery.

If Romney got elected, and things recovered in two years, he will take credit. If it is still failing, its Obama's fault. Right?

I'm not sure either of these really answer the question.... unless in the case of CD's post tourist areas contain more / less intelligent Americans and in the case of JR's post Hispanic Americans tend to be more / less intelligent.

New York, Chicago and LA vs bumfuck, flyover Jesusville.

It seems fairly obvious to me.

Also importantly, re-election of Obama means Obamacare's future is secure. Fight over Obamacare is over. It will be fully in place by 2016.

I haven't seen any intelligence statistics based on democratic or republican votes for this election AKA "gas station worker vote this way, college students vote this way" polls. Historically I think you can track a trend of college/university students voting liberal more frequently but I'm not certain. You are treading more into opinion territory than actual numbers if you're talking about straight intelligence though, as that is something difficult to measure without bias when it comes to political tracking.

MSNBC? For real?

It was a false equivalence, flat out.

I don't think you were around here in 04, but... it was crazy. [edit: haha maybe I'm misremembering where I was posting back then actually; had to double-check when I joined here. But in general the reaction was very similar if not more self-aware / more playful]

A lot, take my co-worker's barber this morning, who says "it's all over now because they lazy and entitled will continue to live on the dole" To which my co-worker discovered through conversation that the barber was on Social Security....

Was it disability or actual Social Security? Because I gotta tell you if they're on the pension they've very much earned what they're getting back.

I agree with both statements. Outright cutting these people isn't feasible, but the people crying about "Obama's America", Romney wouldnt have totally cut these programs either.

People need to re-evaluate their situation and maybe take a little more initiatve on their part to become sustainable. But on the other hand, we never talk about re-evaluating military budget. We don't have to necessarily cut their budget here and now, just take a good look at it.

Anyways, employers need to man up and look how they are just as big of a problem. Sure, you don't have to work at a certain job, but a lot of times, there are not a ton of choices for these people to go to when they are in need of a job.

Fair enough, I figured with the insane amount of exit polls and research there might have been something.

...and yeah, as a university graduate myself I can appreciate that it isn't always the best indication of intelligence.

Some good ones today:

Well maybe now that the election is over we can finally figure out what happened at Benghazi. I'm pretty sure Travyon Martin got more coverage than that terrorist attack.

So the day after the election, the markets are down over 300 points and gas is up over 20 cents. Cool.

I don't really care about yet another novelty tumblr, ha—and have long since got used to White People do the Darndest Things, but I think sometimes this stuff is just sort of intuitive. Like if there was a blog called 'Women Crying', I don't know that I'd jump to ITS SEXIST! But I probably wouldn't like a blog called 'Black People Committing Crimes'. Social context makes some things feel like implied correlation more than others.

That said, again, not a comment on that tumblr, which I actually got some chuckles out of. Just an observation in general.

The sheer stupidity.

This gives me a dead-cold, corpse-like feeling.

The next generation everybody.

Facebook/Twitter are fucking toxic in some ways, that's what I'm starting to see (though really, I had that idea for a while.)

When the handouts benefit them, no problem; but must keep up that persona that they're some fucking ideal 'boot-strapper'. Fuck off with that nonsense.

I'm sure there's something , I just haven't seen it yet. I've asked around and will post back if I find anything. Here's a racial demographic breakdown:

Except we know that plenty of white people voted for Obama. No one believes that all white people voted for Romney. No racist message is created, transmitted or sustained by that blog.

Stop being so PC.
