The Wii Shop Channel lets you use credit cards or eShop cards now, so you don't need to buy Nintendo Points cards, but it'll still use a separate wallet from the Wii U eShop and it still uses Nintendo Points.
When did they say that?
They've said it a bunch of times, I'm pretty sure it's right there on the site, even.
They've said there's a Wii Channel for Wii stuff. They haven't said anything about there being a Wii Shop Channel.
You must download all WiiWare/VC through the Wii Shop Channel, not to be confused with the Wii U's eShop. It's unclear whether or not you'll have to re-download all of your old downloadable games through the shop or if they'll come over in the Wii To Wii U transferring.
Gosh darnit, Americans are just hours away from Paper Mario.
This is going to be a long month...
we get Crashmo next week mate
time to find something to do for 168 hours

You can see a Wii Shop channel on the Wii mode menu, and translated from the Japanese WiiU website:

Wii points will transfer to the Wii Menu's Shopping channel. Will not transfer if ends up >10k

購入できません。WiiポイントはWiiショッピングチャンネルのみで、ニンテンドー3DSの残高はニンテンドー3DSの『ニンテンドーeショップ』のみで使用できます。
Can i use my Wii Shopping channel / 3DS eShop balance?
No. Points can only be used in their respective shops

Probably the Wii having the least forward thinking online shop setup ever, DSi at least presided the 3DS by 2 years as I recall. Well, maybe the original Xbox was worse, but you would probably struggle to spend more than $30 on that. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why is this worse then the 3DS?
Which is disappointing, something like that should only grow with future generations, not be treated as a one generation novelty. It's not a huge deal as I don't expect many more games on the Wii VC unlike the 3DS shop suddenly breathing new life into the DSi shop.
I'm almost positive the new eshop will have a new VC.
I've got a question about VC on Wii U. Will the Wii U eShop have a VC section or I'll have to go into Wii Channel, then open Wii Shop and buy the VC games there?
Probably the second.

It was announced a while back that the Wii U will add Gamecube games to its VC lineup, which implies its own VC market...
I think they'll have to, or it'll be stillborn. Yeah, rebuying my favorites every generation is NOT appealing. Though I could compromise on an iTune plus-style one time fee to convert a bunch over.I'm almost positive the new eshop will have a new VC.
Now if Nintendo will be nice and count your transfered license as a purchase of the new versions of whatever games they release that would be nifty.
Right now it's looking like the latter.
It was announced a while back that the Wii U will add Gamecube games to its VC lineup, which implies its own VC market... but there aren't any Wii U controller options right now that are compatible with the GC's analog L/R buttons. I'm wondering if NCL changed their minds and scrapped that plan.
And the Classic Controller has analog shoulder buttons.
Does Nintendo still produce original Classic Controllers? I think it's all Pros now...
I have no idea why they got rid of analog shoulder buttons. :[
If Nintendo ever does introduce GCN VC, I wouldn't be surprised if they put out a Gamecube WiiU controller. Could also be compatible with SSB4 to make those folks who play only with GC controllers happy.

So, those download cards for the west. Nothing?

For the latter, only NSMB2 exists... at GS for me. Nonexistant otherwise.
Are you talking about retail game download cards?
Yeah, nothing. There was nothing for any 3DS retail releases, and there probably won't be anything for WiiU retail releases. I think I remember reading that they were supposed to be available worldwide, but I guess they never followed up on it. :/
I'd love to see them come out over here though!
edit:
Well, this is news to me. Are there any pics of what it looks like? I havent seen it.
It was just a box with NSMB2 that noted that it was DLC. And considering it's GameStop, the code is most likely on the reciept.
Ubisoft is looking into have retail download cards for their Wii U titles.

Hmmm, if Wii Shop Channel is seperated, does that mean it won't be tied to the Wii U account for future references?

Link to this? Good news if true
Ubisoft officials are also in discussions with retailers about selling download codes for full retail games in physical stores as well.
"It's something we are discussing with the different retailers because we think sometimes when people go to the shop they want to get information on what game to buy and also how to play it and so on," he said. "So the retailers are really bringing something that can help them sell the right games so they have a good experience."
I'd be willing to trade a Super Punch Out code for it or just pay $5

I'd imagine it'd be worth substantially more than $5.
Am I missing something? I can't find fractured souls in the OP...anyone played it? It looks interesting...
So I impulse bought it. I'm bored at work, sue me.
The game isn't good. I don't really care about the graphics being bad, or the art(which is worse than the graphics), I just wanted three things. Good framerate, tight platforming and a somewhat satisfying mechanic. That's it.
- This game didn't do any of the three. The level design is extremely dull, and I'm not talking looks. The structure of it's layout is just boring as shit. Not only that, but it doesn't coincide well with his set of animations and limits as far as jumping, shifting, collision, etc. You see platforms and feel like you can reach them, and even though your character looks as if he is making it, he wont. Like his feet just decided not to collide with the floor during a tight jump.
- The shifting mechanic works about how you expect it to. It's a simple set up, much suited for twitch gaming, and can easily be hours of fun with a decent design. Well, it didn't happen here. Due to the horrid platforming and boring as shit level design, you are just left switching in the most rudimentary of ways. Not trying to compare this to a game like Ikaruga, but you NEVER get that level of satisfaction from working with it's mechanics. I didn't expect anything, and still came away disappointed.
- Yeah, the framerate isn't 60fps. Therefore, it isn't good for this type of game. End of
story.
- No 3D
- Not sure how big the game is space wise, but it took forever to download in comparison to others.
- The sound is...there.
- Didn't get that far, and I never will. The game should have started out good if they wanted me to get any further.
Overall 2/5
For the asking price, your dollar will go MUCH farther on the eShop. Or at the store. You could get a small pack of leg quarters, fresh veggies, and something to drink with it. A good meal while reading the Bayonetta meltdown thread.
Dammit. I thought the medal was better than the trophy. It's based on your best time for completing a quiz. The cup is better than the medal and I'm not sure if anything is better than the cup.
A month is pretty short for Paper Mario *glares at Super Paper Mario*.Gosh darnit, Americans are just hours away from Paper Mario.
This is going to be a long month...
I'm pretty sure you can't have over 10,000 points on the Wii Shop account. Its basically saying new Wii Shop account is just like old one.(if points after transfer would exceed 10k points it will not transfer them)
I thought that was the download servers for something more modern than a single Apache Tomcat server somewhere in America.I think its because they've got an outside company handling the DSi/3DS and now the Wii U eshop.
Just remember you might not get 10% for any Wii Shop channel purchases but should in theory be able to put the $5 towards the Wii Shop as it sounds like you're given an eShop code. Those digital cards would be amazing to have. I could still do trade-in deals for them at stores and get my 10% back for my digital downloads.
This point reminds me. Can you buy eShop credit in usual denominations (i.e. will it solve the leftover points problem)? The Wii Shop Channel lets you use credit cards or eShop cards now, so you don't need to buy Nintendo Points cards, but it'll still use a separate wallet from the Wii U eShop and it still uses Nintendo Points.

I hope they release a GameCube controller for Wii U and then don't make it compatible with Smash Bros., just because those people are annoying and I want them to be unhappy.
That is true!A month is pretty short for Paper Mario *glares at Super Paper Mario*.
