Halo 4 Story Spoilers and Speculations

Its all explained in previous Halo lore. You can complain that Halo 4 itself doesn't explain it if you want, but its all been explained previously. You may be able to find a lot of the answers you seek in the game's Terminals and Halo Waypoint. The rest lay in the books. Mainly Greg Bear's trilogy, as well as Ghosts of Onyx, Glasslands and Thursday War.

I don't think it's answers he wants or what anyone should be looking for in Halo 4. Now exposition is out there. As said ad nauseam, it's stuff that should be in the game and isn't, but Halo 4's not meaningless or nonsensical to a fault. You can go get that stuff; the issue is it not being in your immediate vicinity. On answers: they said from the start it's the beginning of a new trilogy. As such, H4 is obviously about presenting you with many questions and few answers if any. The sequels are meant to provide answers. They exchange that with the responsibility of setting up the base.

TL:DR - Answers =/= exposition.

Right. Think about how much information Halo: CE gave us. Nothing. We're on some mysterious world fighting a collection of alien races we know nothing about. And then the Flood, which we also know nothing about comes into the picture. All that happens in the course of Halo: CE is discovering unknowns. Halo 4 is in the same position. Lots of wheels churning. More and more is going to be revealed in Halo 5 and 6. But what I said above still applies; You can find the answer to most of your questions in existing Halo lore.

So, is there any further explanation on what the Flood are? Just...a species? Does the Forerunner trilogy of books expand on them at all?

My biggest confusion looking back on Halo lore stems from the Flood and Gravemind.
Why are there still Flood after the Halo arrays were originally fired? It's not like the Forerunners indexed them, or did they?

I think it was kind of hinted at in cryptum that the flood were a human made bio-weapon ("I am a monument to all YOUR sins"). There was also something about them coming into the galaxy on a derelict ship. Either way humans found and fought them way before the forerunners.

The forerunners kept them indexed on the rings because they were basically an immortal indestructible god-fungus and wanted to study them.

The Precursors made the Flood as a test to see who would be worthy of the Mantle.

Absolutely. And it's unfortunate people not invested in the EU will have to do that for a few things, but I think it's much more fun to read into what the game's hinting at in the future.

Also: people should play Spartan-Ops. That's pretty much EU content right there and I have a feeling they'll end the season with at least one notable plot point (though it's also just fun in general).

Maybe locations of other shield worlds? I think you're right though. Spartan Ops is a great way to give a vague hint as to where things are going to go next.

He was still 'defeated' and fell into a slipspace rupture, all you do is stick a grande on him. It could've been something, literally anything would've had more substance than that.
that's what happened to Jorge in Reach, but he's assumed to be dead... Although the Didact knew where this slipspace portal would lead.

I know everyone hates flashbacks, but what if 343 had implemented some of the terminals as psuedo-flashbacks, as a result of a geas from the Librarian?
Anything would be better than how it was done.

I'd opt for something even simpler. Lasky could ask "So who is this Didact guy? And how exactly is he a threat?" And Sarah Palmer could quite easily ask about the nature of the Promethean Knights and other critters swarming Requiem. You'd think they'd want to know more just as the player did. She could also fill the chief in on why a splinter of the Covenant is still dangerous.

In terms of Forerunner history, placing historical dominion records in obvious locations in the gravity well complex would have provided some grounding and context for who the Librarian was and what she had to say.

That would have been enough. Finer points and detail could then be found in Terminals and the novels, for those interested in more.

Yeah. Particularly if it's successful enough to go on to a second (presumably paid) season later. I could totally see them supporting SPOPS long-term, teasing elements of H5, then announcing H5 sometime after. And it's not like the books are gonna stop coming out, either. The last Kilo-5 book isn't out and I expect that to take place after Halo 4 and put characters in position for H5.

So, it seems pretty obvious to me that good ol' Didact will be back in Halo 5. If given a bit more personality than his stupid villainous monologues, and depth which otherwise one would have to gather from the EU, i think he could be a good villain for this new trilogy.

Also, give him some more physical appearances than just an introduction scene and the final confrontation, for crying out loud! Treat him like a proper villain and character to the story.

"Stupid"? I guess I see what you mean, but his final, post-credits monologue is some of the most loaded dialogue in the whole game. Major foreshadowing going on there.

That story at the beginning is very interesting. Especially the whole part, if I remember correctly, where the Dr explains that a Spartan can become unstable overtime. I wonder how Chief will act now.

We will most likely get a Master Chief with a not a care in the world type attitude in Halo 5, along with an entirely new armor set. 343 studio's Halo 5 on the next-gen xbox should be a sight to behold!

If Halo 5 is set on Earth, with just chief and no AI, I will be heavily disappointed.

This is something from the first CG bit of Spartan Ops and not campaign, so I guess I'll tag it just to be safe:
Apparently the Infinity has an AI. Maybe that will be chief's companion in Halo 5?

Fuck that, I want Cortana!

It's a shame that the only time we hear the Halo theme is when we first see Installation 03. I don't know why, but it really made me appreciate the CE story that much more. I'll have a good write up about the story a bit later.

HALO 5 will open with Chief at the bottom of a bottle, his face-plate covered with a shaggy beard and ONI requesting him to come back into service while he tells them to fuck off and find some other chump to grind up. Then he'll pull the picture of him and Cortana out of the bible he now keeps in his bedside table and hear her echo voice: 'Bet you can't stick it.'

Then he'll sigh deeply and call ONI back.

Who named the Forerunners? Having them call themselves Forerunners sounds pretentious.

Halo: Cryptum explains this. It's because they believed that they would be succeeded by another species who were worthy of the Mantle and be the next guardians of the galaxy.

The ending of Halo 6 should just be Chief dying and finding Cortana in a land where they can touch

I really liked Cortana, but it would be so lame if she came back. Halo 4's ending would be completely meaningless. Something I'd love to see if she did survive would be if she became a villain.

Halsey had 4 clones of her brain, she only used one to make Cortana. The other ones are frozen for later use.

Because the last time they had a final boss battle it was bad, really bad.

MAC gun at the end of Reach was a lot better, then the fight till you die segment was cool as well. Better than 4s.

Halo 4 made me miss the flood to be honest. I know I'm probably the only one who feels this way.

I'm not all that up to date with the halo story. But what exactly do the precursors look like and who created them?

I wish the Forerunners didn't speak English. I mean, way to absolutely kill the enigma that is this ancient, unfathomable race that has been built up over a huge number of games.

Any indication to their plans should have come from Cortana.

Promethean weapon racks killed it for me.

Your ancient, highly advanced race has weapons that can transform and reform and instead of being able to store them on units in little cubes or blink them in, we just hang them on magazine racks.

No one knows. I hope they keep it that way. Also, I miss the Flood too. They'll be back.

What I hope happens with the flood (should they return) is that they stop becoming damage sponges. Flood should never have shields and one shot to the head should kill all flood. They should live up to their name and just overwhelm you with their numbers and their tenacity.

Halo 6 should be about Chief retiring and trying to start a new family with some human, but keeps thinking about Cortana and locks the bathroom door and jerks off while thinking about her.

Why would that make in Meaningless. look at other stories where the heroin is believe to have sacrificed themselves to save someone or something only to be reborn again. this never leaves you thinking that there sacrifice was worthless on the contrary they gave up something but in return were reworded some how this is still possible with cortana and seriously 343 and frank said her and chief has a large roll through out the new trilogy not just the first game so shes coming back and i bet we can expect it to be an epic return

Thanks bro, but I'm talking about the decision as an audience member, not somebody debating the logic. It makes them feel less alien and robs them of a lot of mystique. They should be anything but relatable.

This game robbed me of seeing a fraction of John's face even though I beat it on legendary. It ended the same way it would have had I beat it on normal. Bullshit!

Do all your chapters have the legendary logo clear next to them? I had to to go back and replay one mission thanks to that stupid Halo save and quit but that's been around forever...
