PS+ for PS Vita comes next week with FW 2.00, games revealed (WOW)

Pretty good deal even if I already have two of those games. Still I managed to get £30 for Uncharted and Gravity Rush which essentially paid for my year's subscription. While I was never interested in Mutant Blobs Attack or Chronovolt, I won't say no to more games

I'm more looking to finally uploading my save files though! And a nice firmware update

I wonder how often it will "phone home" to confirm your PS+ subscription. Will you only be able to play these games with wifi / 3G active? Will it check every time you start the game or every time it resumes suspension? Can you keep playing the game even after you cancel PS+ as long as the game has not shut down?

If I subscribe after a game is offered, do I still get the chance to download it?

Depends on how you define "after".

If you subscribe before it is taken down again (the free offer), then yeah.

Some deals are there for a month and some for a bit less. On the PS3 there are free games that are available for around 3 months I think.

Once you have "purchased" them and added them to your download list you are good.

You don't need to be subscribed when the offer goes up, but you have to purchase it before it goes down again.

The Instant Game Collection has games cycled in and out of rotation. If you download a game while it's available, you have access to it as long as you're subscribed. If you subscribe after a game has been taken out of rotation and you didn't grab it at the time, then you can't access it.

as long as you subscribed before the time Sony takes it out of the rotation (which is the first tuesday of the new month IIRC, plus they will indicate that they will be removed soon via a "last chance" tag).

The only games I don't own already are Mutant Blobs and Jet Set Radio. This is like the 'PSN outage FREE games I already own' thing all over again.

If they had offered crap games people would complain, if they offer some of the best on the platform people complain.

Great.

Every PS+ thread is a PS+ FAQ because people don't bother reading the same question and answer that comes up every page. :P

And yeah...there's not really any way Sony would get everyone's approval here. But if you already own all of these games (aside from JSR) then you don't seem like the kind of gamer that would benefit from PS+ as you already buy a lot of games.

If I didn't have 4 of the 6 big titles offered, this would be a really, really sweet deal. Anyone on the fence, you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Uncharted is phenomenal, Nolan North does a stellar job voicing Drake in the game. Loved the plot.

Gravity Rush is charming and unique, worthy of being played.

Wipeout is well: Wow! Amaze balls! If you pony up $13 more $, the Fury/HD campaigns are avai
Able as Vita DLC, adding to an already fantastic game.

Mutant Blobs is really good, too.

Anyone on the fence, if you have or had remote interest in the system, this really should seal the deal, especially factoring in cross play and cross buy.

If I subscribe after a game is offered, do I still get the chance to download it?
No, it goes like this:

Download game while it is available: Game available at any point in time until you stop subscribing. Game becomes available again if you resubscribe after stopping.

Game no longer available: If you've downloaded it when it was available, you still have access while you are subscribed. If you didn't download it, you don't - you have to buy it if you want it.

Don't mean to complain, I'm just a little disappointed the big games being offered are titles I've owned for quite awhile now.

Yeah I already have Uncharted, Gravity Rush and WipEout, but to be fair there's really not that many huge games they can offer initially that will really get people to go out and subscribe. For new PS Vita owners and those who don't buy a lot of games, this is arguably the best list they could have come up with.

Sell the old games. That's what I do when I get PS3 games I already own. I like to think of it as if I'm downloading free money so I don't get disappointed if it's a game I already own

I really hope Sony gets the word out about PS+ on the Vita. It could really help boost Vita sales. This system deserves to have a strong life.

Sony really came through and are putting a good foot forward with this initiative. Hopefully some more game announcements are down the road along with a revision with improved battery life.

Already got all the games in euroland apart from the new title, but I'll be purchasing for the cloudsave option. The fact you can only backup saves with the "bubble" at the moment means I'm burning through about 50GB of disk space at the moment having my "vita is broken" full backup just in case, and individual game backups to copy/remove from the memory card as appropriate.

Cloud saves means I can just re-download the games I assume if I delete them? Deleting the game from my Vita won't delete the cloud saves as well will it? Never subscribed to plus on PS3, so unsure how that works.

1) Cloud Saves has nothing to do with the game. But yes, you can redownload PS Plus games over and over and over again. Until your sub runs out.

2) No, cloud saves are separate, it's pretty much a copy of your save file that leaves the original intact.

Pretty sure AMOLED, which is what the Vita uses is cheaper than IPS.

Quite the opposite. They're a lot cheaper to produce than OLED displays.

You can get the superb LG IPS234V for 149€ at Amazon. (a 23inch LED-LCD IPS4 monitor, IPS4 being the newest and cheapest of the consumer IPS displays, the newest Iphone/Ipod Touch also uses the IPS4 panel from LG) Great reviews across the board. I bought 2 of them. Praised for colour accuracy, out of the box configuration and superb black and white levels. (for an LCD)

But there is a difference between an e-IPS and S-IPS panel. The former keeps colors consistent in terms of viewing angles but not the contrast. A 5 year old S-IPS display still beats today's technology! But hey, S-IPS displays cost around €1000 while the LG is €150.

Still better then a TN panel. Also, with 5ms it is great for gaming. No ghosting, no bleeding etc.

Here some info if someone is interested
More info about e-IPS:

During 2009 LG.Display began to develop a new generation of e-IPS panels which is a sub-category of H-IPS. They simplifed the subpixel structure in comparison with H-IPS (similar to cPVA vs S-PVA) and increased the transparency of the matrix. In doing so, they have managed to reduce production costs significantly, aiming to compete with the low cost TN Film panels and Samsung's new cPVA generation. Because transparency is increased, they are able to reduce backlight intensity as you need less light to achieve the same luminance now. This helps keep costs down significantly compared with S-IPS.
The main drawback of e-IPS in comparison with S-IPS is that the viewing angles are smaller. When you take a look at an e-IPS matrix from a side, the image will lose its contrast as black turns into gray. On the other hand, there is no tonal shift (as with TN and cPVA matrixes) and the viewing angles, especially vertical ones, are still much larger than with TN. By the way, the contrast drop occurring when the screen is viewed from a side can be compensated by means of special correcting film (A-TW polarizer), but as e-IPS matrices are meant for midrange monitors and this film costs money, most products come without it. Some are actually 6-bit + AFRC modules in fact (as opposed to true 8-bit) which might explain how the costs are kept very low in some cases.
Although it's unknown what the "e" stands for here, it's likely that it means "economic" or similar, since these new panels are all about trying to keep production and retail costs low. With lower retail costs there is of course an added risk of inter panel variance, which may lead to some quality control issues in some models.

Oh and I freaking hate OLED displays. Completely useless for pretty much everything especially video/photo editing.

OLED is an oversaturated, degradable screen that is near-impossible to calibrate and, without a matte display, creates massive amounts of glare. Expect any monitor made with current AMOLED technologies to cause extreme eye strain and last only ~2 years. No matter how one looks at it, AMOLED is impractical for use in anything bigger than the size of your hand, and even there it's rubbish especially with the PenTile Matrix which looks worse and you can push it to 18 months instead of 12 months usage...
The poor brightness level you can achieve make outdoor usability near impossible. The sole reason I returned the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3 and my Vita. (and the oversaturated neon colours make me sick)
They are expensive and slow to produce (Samsung being one of the very few mass producer) And contrary to popular belief, they aren't much better at power saving than LCD's.

Prepare to throw your Vita/Samsung phone out of the window because after ~2 years of mild to heavy usage because the blue diodes will vanish. The screen will get even dimmer and get a yellowish tint. Kinda ridiculous that the display will die sooner than a freaking lithium-ion battery! Over saturated cartoonish colours, poor longevity, vertical lines, laughable brightness which gets worse over time, black dots, screen burn and the list goes on and on. Simply half-baked in ever way. What was Sony thinking...

And you know what's sad? Sony knew about all this beforehand,

At CES Sony engineers I spoke with said that OLED technology is inferior to LCD panels for several reasons: the lack of brightness, inaccurate colors due to over-saturation, and a blue hue to the screen. That’s why the upcoming Xperia S and Xperia Ion will both come equipped with LCD displays.

The people responsible for this should be lined up and shot... IN FRONT OF THEIR FAMILIES! (because videosgames are serious business around here, yo)

To round this post up,
"PS Vita currently selling slower than the Sega Dreamcast."
Sony abandoned the OLED consumer market

Thank you and good night!

You can use the browser while a game is playing if you go through the Twitter app first. It is a small hurdle, but at least it works.
What the hell, this actually works :lol

And this also makes it even worse, what possible reason does Sony have to not allow it officially?

Ugh, if that's the case there better be some sort of program like with RROD, because this is serious bullshit. I knew the black spots alone wasn't the only negativity on this thing...

Sorry, re-reading that I really mis-phrased what I was trying to say.

What I meant was, as standard, If you delete a Vita game that you've bought digitally, your saves are deleted as well. With PS+, I assume if I was to delete the install of the game, the cloud saves would just automatically still exist. I don't have to do anything special or in a certain way.

So Wipeout, Uncharted, FF Tactics, JSR and I get to keep my copy of Gravity Daze that I previously sold. This is a good deal.

Yeah. It's cloud saves, not cloud syncing lol

This should be stickied so people don't ask 10 times per one page how all of it works... :/

When you open it via the twitter app and a game is running the browser has less ram available to use. If you try and open a heavy website it will ask you to shut the game down to free up resources.

They could enable it to just work as normal and still give that warning but I can kind of understand why they don't.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered already- Are the saves for digital and physical games the same? i.e I have a physical copy of Wipeout. If I download the digital version does my old save work with that? Will I have two Wipeout bubbles in the menu or just one?

So no PS Vita games are discounted heavily atleast if we dont want rented items? FFS Sony. I want to BUY games. Dont want my money? Ok....
