4GB: $17.00 ($19.99)
8GB: $25.97 ($29.99)
16GB: $46.62 ($59.99)
32GB: 80.90 ($99.99)

Not too bad, but not amazing, either. I may just get the 16GB card, but I'm torn between that and the 32GB card. I usually buy 99% retail, but I got AC3: Lib digital, and I'm getting All Stars digital free with my PS3 version. So many other Cross Play games are making it more reasonable to go whole hog and get the 32GB.

Just ordered a wifi version + 32gb memory card thanks to this. Guess I'll play some demos and Crossbuy games while waiting for the 21st.

If they can get a good high quality LCD it will be disappointing but not a huge problem. I do wonder if an OLED is actually more expensive or not though, I'd need to dig up costs.

I also doubt the "looking to make it cheaper" inherently means a new version. They'd been modifying PS1/PS2/PS3 several times silently to make it cheaper yet don't announce new versions, or even major changes we'd see, very often, and Microsoft/Nintendo do the same.

Ever see a commercial for Plus or any advertising done for it? I've never. Really, the only people who are vaguely exposed to any Plus advertising are those who use PSN to download their games... which is also a small percentage of the PS nation. So, of course no one knows how it works: most have never even heard of the service.

If Sony and their marketing department are smart, going forward, they place big Plus stickers on every Vita box extolling the virtues of $150 worth of software for $5/month.

Pretty sure AMOLED, which is what the Vita uses is cheaper than IPS.

I was suspecting half the appeal was being cheaper, so we probably won't see a change unless they went to a crappy LCD, and I don't think anyone wants that. IPS would've been alright though.
 
Finally Ps+ is announced and it's all looking good. SCEA who are constantly seen as overlooking the Vita have knocked it right out of the park.

I see a lot of people complaining about SCEE getting shafted. Yeah, you are getting less than SCEA, but you are still getting three of the best games on the platform, how terrible!

I also have no doubt that SCEE will be better in the long term with discounts and other stuff.

Also really pleased to see the new FW. Cloud saves, better browser, auto patching, etc are things that have been wanted for a while.

All in all Sony did good, I reckon a bundle with a Vita and a 3 month sub to PS+ would be a great idea at this point, it gets people in and they get some games to play, but then in 3 months they either need to buy games or sub to PS+, plus they need to get a memory card.

Glad I have 32GB, but I already have too many games to play :(

Just filled out the Amazon trade in for Gravity Rush so that's £16 back in my pocket and I'll download it digitally from Plus.

EDIt: I wonder if wireless transfers to the PC will be as dog ass slow as they are over USB2.
 
fucking hotel cleaner jacked my sony walkman last week and I don't feel like buying another one (fuck I loved my walkman) I guess its time to buy a Vita ~_~

But man between a 7970 and a Vita....it's going to be an expensive month
 
I was afraid they'd hold back Uncharted, because Sony has been so tone deaf when it comes to the Vita, but it looks like they exceeded my low expectations. Good job!
 
Ok. This has done and completely turned me around on Vita.

From "There's nothing on vita that makes me want to buy it" to IT HAS EVERYTHING!

Come to think about it, this has turned me around on monthly fees for a service too.... it's like Gamefly done right.

I had a PSP and regretted it, and I am not a fan of the Vita, but this news makes me want to get one. Good job Sony.


Now to wait until I absoluetly NEED one.
 
I have a lot of physical copies of Vita games, but I'm definitely going to go digital as PS+ releases new content. This is so ridiculously good. <3

i'm excited about plus on vita, but i don't understand this change in mindset. is it just because there is free stuff? it's not like the content available for vita has changed.

If that's the case, they wouldn't go to IPS if they want to cut costs. Obviously.

The display is by far the most expensive component (almost 1/3rd of the $159 to assemble at launch according to iFixit). If they wanted to cut costs, they may start with that.

-You still have to buy a memory card. That's up to another $100 right there.
-The retail games are discounted now. You can get Uncharted, Wipeout, and Gravity Rush for less than $90 from Amazon.
 
That's what i'm talking about! I've wanted Gravity Rush since day 1 but due to my rental service not always sending the next game on my list i would always get another game. So, i couldn't be happier. And, i may even give Jet Set Radio a try. Always wanted to play it.

BTW, is FFT the same version from the PS1?

After E3, some shelf material got pushed out to retail where I am - HMV, Gamestop etc. HMV here has half of one of their PS3 shelves promoting PS+. Which is a start.

Seems odd that they'd have retailer cooperation given what PS+ is - a digital content sub - but I guess they're offering retail a decent cut on PS+ cards.

I agree with your suggestions though, it should become a bigger deal in their general promotion and marketing.

It's the PSP version. New translation, new class, widescreen, and some other changes.

No. It's the PSP version since it's the "War of the Lions" logo. Expect slowdown unless Sony/Square applied that homebrew hack.

Honestly, they should've given Tactics Ogre instead, no slowdown there and basically the same gameplay.

Not on PSN, Lyte. Which makes this a decent deal (if going digital like some of us) unless next month they FINALLY discount the titles to the retail price for PSRS people.

If you already sub to PS+ you essentially get 4 awesome games bundled with the Vita. Which will entice a lot of people

SWEET! Gravity Rush for free! And space blobs! Sony totally went all out. I would normally have buyers remorse since I got my vita in late september and picked up 2048 and uncharted but considering I ripped off Staples Business Depot to get a few deals it evens out.

Its really stupid when I see people saying "vita has no games" and now people are picking them up since PS+ is giving out games for free.

The vita has games, with great value too. Otherwise you guys wouldn't be picking one up.

I don't know why I am saying this on GAF though since most people here actually have some taste and appreciate quality. I should be directing this comment at 4chan because this playstation blog post just changed everything, for the better.

Anyone who ridicules PS+ after this update is ignorant. I don't even care, I run into way too many haters on the internet and some people have biased opinions with nothing to base it on (because they never even bothered to check it out).


Anyways, I already own WipEout 2048 (awww....) and I felt terrible enough purchasing the WipEout HD + FURY DLC during October since everyone got it for free in 2011 after the hacks (double awww....). I didn't have a ps3 then so I missed out.

Also got Uncharted but I never played it. I don't plan on downloading it though because 3.5gb is insanely large o_o' I only have a 4gb spare me.

Well atleast it wasn't too much of a downpour for me though, I got uncharted for free with my vita and bought WipEout 2048 on clearance for $15, and the dlc for $13. $28 made it worthwhile, and I wouldn't have been able to DL onto my 4gb anyways.




Sony's master plan... get everyone to buy memory cards so they can hold onto these mammoth games. lol

But seriously, I need to get another memory card. I won't be able to put in any of my cross-buy games (All-stars, R&C:FFA, and Sly 4) on my vita.


Ouch. I won't even be able to fit in jet set radio or gravity rush now that I realize it. Wow, a 4gb got me nowhere.


Still, the $50 I spent on PS+ on the 30th of October just paid itself off, because a glorified rental of these games for a year is all I will ever need. Cheers to PS+

Yea I know. I was just trying to type out the thoughts in my head. Thinking about it more critically, it probably should sound more like "It's just not worth the money" to "Damn, that's a hot deal".

edit: Happy it made some people laugh though, that is always the intent. =)

So I only have a 4GB card for my Vita.

Question:
If I join PS+, can I just start downloading each game and then pause/cancel it to make the games appear in my download history?

Or do I have to install the game to be able to redownload it later?
 
Damn. My subscription is about to expire, but this cause me to get back on sooner than I thought. Those are some really enticing deals.

why does that matter? If you want them, buy them. On the bonus side you get them on sale AND don't have to worry about a sub lapsing and you losing access to what you "bought."
