Seriously, WTF did Obama actually do to these people's lives in a practical sense for them to actively encourage a fucking assassination upon him?
Be black yo.

Yea, I am tired of this bullshit of growing conscience when the people these racists most likely surround themselves with are of similar mindset.
Some of these individuals may grow out of it as they mature but taking it on faith that this ill will be cured if you wait it out could cost people who aren't white and christian a lot more when and if these racists pricks become employers or are put in position of power (say police).
Yea, ignoring problems or brushing them aside hoping the issue will fix itself because they don't affect you directly shows a certain predilection towards apathy.

I'm not sure what bothers me more...the racism or the creepy stalking/shaming of this tumblr. Not to mention the vaguely anti-free speech/fascistic nature of the whole thing.
A lot of these twitter users seem young and misguided but even if they aren't, I don't see how harassing them online will improve the situation and may even lead to a crime. It will certainly increase the e-notoriety of this tumblr user.
He lowered their taxes and insurance premiums.
Anti-free speech? What does that mean? If I get fired from my job for going on a sexually explicit, verbally violent rant I should sue for violation of the 1st amendment?I'm not sure what bothers me more...the racism or the creepy stalking/shaming of this tumblr. These kids don't think about the words they're saying before they say them. Unfortunately, they also think that they're entitled (I love that word, these days) to say whatever they want, without consequences because "olol freedom of speech."
It works two ways, unfortunately. They're going to be branded, and they'll have to work to remove a stain from their person, so to speak. Those that don't, well...I think the digital mark of Cain works well here, especially for the Christians of the group.

It's nice in a karma like way. These people, if they care too, can convince everyone that they aren't vile little monsters, but they have to work very hard to make that happen. A lot harder than it was to send out the little remark that got them targeted in the first place.
Karma is alive and well on the internet!
So apparently if I want to ruin someone's life, all I have to do is create a twitter account under their name, post for a few months to try to throw people off the trail, then post some dumb shit and get it posted to one of these tumblrs. Good to know.
Oh, it's only white Christians who are racist these days, gotcha. Glad we got that out of the way.
Ignoring doesn't work in all cases, but it would in most. Especially some online posting from a teenager in the middle of nowhere. You should probably just ignore their tweets because they have absolutely zero impact in your life and if you think making a webpage to "out" them will cause more good than harm, well, I don't know what to tell you.
Oh piss off. I am talking about the people here. Pretty sure you didn't read my post when I said that any and all racism regardless the race it originates from should be made criminal offence.
Actively ignoring these people in their daily life may be an acceptable answer. Staying away from these people may help. That's also an active action.
And yes, you're right that it doesn't have any impact on my life. Does exposing them have any impact on yours? And as aforementioned, this is a great show of apathy because doing something right that doesn't somehow come with an incentive offer or benefit me directly is not worth doing.
Lastly, this is not about either causing harm of expecting something good. I am not expecting these pricks to change their attitude. I rather see it as a public service for others to keep away from these vermin.
Lordy, that's fucking cruel. I would have hate to make a mistake in your household growing up.
Being racist and ignorant is not a "mistake". You really think all this is just a slip-of-the-tongue situation? Come on.
So, 2 wrongs make a right? The kids make racist remarks like douchebags. So to counter that, lets expose them and make an example out of them like a public service announcement? So we should potentially ruin the lives of a couple of teenagers over a couple tweets they made as some kind of warning to future kids?

The mistake they made is repeating what they hear in their household. It's the same with all racists of all colors. You can't punish a person if that's all they've ever known.

Yes you can. And you should. That's how you change one's behavior.

Jangocube gonna Jango.
it isn't worth it, fellas.
Yes you can. And you should. That's how you change one's behavior. Unless you think their behavior does not need adjustment.
'Tis not. I thought something seemed familiar about this conversation and... yeah. I've seen this conversation before.
Already talked about that in this thread. I got called a racist and had my facebook stalked by some fine Neogaf posters!

that is rather far fetched. who is going to dedicate months of their lives to ruining someone else's?
wouldn't the person they are impersonating find out and petition twitter or facebook to close the account before any severe damage it done? after all, months of impersonating someone runs the risk of the person finding out.
what? yes you can.The mistake they made is repeating what they hear in their household. It's the same with all racists of all colors. You can't punish a person if that's all they've ever known.
Did you read any of those books?
what? yes you can.
Also, I think we're getting sidetracked into the whole "they are so young" discussion. Most people on the website are grown ass "bros" posting this stuff.
Negatory. I was dealing with people that didn't like my argument and decided to stalk me on facebook and threaten me all while calling me a racist. Good times.
Link to the post and I'll catch up on at least one by the end of the month.
Grown ass bros are fair game. Let their ignorance be known. Only issue I had was calling out pre-teens and teenagers. I'll leave it be
Then pre-teens and teens should not speak in public.
I'm not opining on the specific topic here, but since you specifically framed it that way:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/28/us/28hoax.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&
Not to mention 4chan. There are some pretty vindictive people on the Internet.
I'm sure I've heard of some Twitter and Facebook pages for some celebrities that are fake and don't belong to the real ones, and which have not been shut down despite the real people publicly saying it's not them.
Man, imagine when they apply for jobs or some top school and they present them with what they said on Twitter or Facebook and say, "Explain yourself."
I'd laugh my ass off.
Yes Amibguous Cad, all you have to do to ruin someones life is dedicate months to impersonating them. That's all.
Given the propensity of the Internet vigilante justice to take action first and ask questions later, it wouldn't surprise me if they would run with a newly created twitter account. And it's not like finding a picture and posting on twitter using the account every once in awhile takes a lot of effort.
Never once did MY hero point a finger at an individual and cast judgement.

Fair enough, with your kids, I can understand how you'd feel that way. But what about if your job was to hire on people at some office job. Would you feel the same way? Would you not hire, or even fire people because you found out about something they said 10 years before when they were a teenager? I think there is a line here somewhere where it becomes dangerous and perhaps a little wrong.Of course not. While I do scrutinize a babysitter much more than I would say... a mechanic, I'm not going to run a government style background check on them. However, if I knew that when they were 16 or 17 they were espousing horrible racist positions then I'd certainly not hire them, or even fire them if they were already working for me.
No way. I don't know what I would do if I knew one of these kids.
Racist fundamentalists existed well before 9/11.People like this spring up in the US because for some reason we value tolerance for even the intolerable... Tolerance is a graceful virtue but it loses all meaning when people like this are allowed to thrive. I'm torn on this tumbler's sense of justice, but I also live in Alabama and know that bigots are everywhere.
They don't live in reality-land and they spread this hatred to their young like wildfire. Get used to these folks being a large chunk of our future population, the Christian Fundamentalist Proto-Fascist Jihad began on 911 and it will sadly be a part of our culture for the rest of our days.
