Edge used to be the holy grail of reviews for me but in recent years I haven't been able to use their scores as a measure of much. I just like their features now.

Why don't you trust GS? I can't remember the last time they were majorly wrong about a game. Usually they're the most honest, along with GB.

A review is an opinion about a game, it can't be "right" or "wrong".

A game can be good or bad, and they're usually right about whether it's good or bad.

Same but after watching video of the melee combat, I don't think I'd enjoy it very much. I guess I'll pickup up Mario to go along with Nintendoland (bundle).

It's kinda depressing Mario isn't the MUST HAVE for the Wii U, as good as I know it's going to be.

It seems like the safest pick even if I'm not the biggest fan of the modern 2D Mario titles. To be fair, I don't think you can expect to be blown away by launch software in this day and age.

I think you can, it's just not happening with the Wii U.

At least it's a good line-up, at least. Been much worse launches.

There are a lot of quality titles for sure. What is the last stand-out launch title you can think of? I'm struggling to think of any device post Dreamcast (Soul Calibur)/PS2 (SSX, maybe an iffy call)/GameCube (Rogue Squadron, Pikmin was the following December right?)/Xbox (Halo) era.

Maybe I'll talk myself into AC3. I really dislike the series but the setting is so appealing.

Twilight Princess. PGR3 on 360, too.

If you had a new main 3D Mario game at launch it would be one of, if not the, best launch game ever. It just so happened they were doing 3D Land etc.

I never thought Red Steel was as terrible as everyone else, so when I called ZombiU the WiiU's Red Steel, it wasn't even intended as that harsh of a troll. :(

The shooting was okay. The sword fighting was pretty broken.

My favorite part was when Patrick said something about how ZombiU was probably just going to be "Red Steel 2", and nobody on the podcast remembered that there was an actual Red Steel 2.

My reaction was "hey, if ZombiU is as good as Red Steel 2, I'm sold!"

I can't speak to the quality of TP, as I'm not a fan of the 3D Zelda titles but it sits in a weird place considering it was re-purposed from the GameCube. The PGR series peaked at 2. :O

Eh it launched on Wii and the GC version was basically a bastard child they had to push out. I consider it a Wii game and a great launch title.

2 was indeed a peak... then 3 was released and the peak went a little bit higher!

Don't mind me, I'm a weirdo. PGR2 is my favorite racer ever. KGB Corner and Cat & Mouse on the ring with friends can never be replicated. The way Bizarre modeled cities in 3&4 are amazing though, I just never put much time into them for some reason. I did have an unhealthy addiction to Blur though.

I never played the GC version of Zelda TP, but even without widescreen I'd consider it the better version. Yes, I hated the waggle controls of Zelda Wii that much:) (Hey, I liked Zelda TP, but it is my least favorite console Zelda.)

Originally I was going to agree that the last truly great launch day game was Halo. However, I'd actually consider Wii Sports a classic launch day game. Maybe in a different way, but that's exactly why. Wii Tennis and Bowling were a ton of fun, the game showed the potential of motion controls (even if it still hasn't met that potential), I mean everyone who played it had fun and then wanted to buy a Wii themselves. That's the hallmark of a great launch day game like the Halos and Mario 64s before it.

I dunno, if you're going to dismiss launch games because they were meant for the previous system, there's a lot of launch games you'll have to disqualify.

I think it's a little different when the game still ends up launching on the previous system. I think the Wii launch was quite a bit better than the launches we've had since though.

I don't think TP counts as a lunch title

TP is a game I got on the launch day with my Wii. It's a launch game. The GC version was a token gesture for a few people who felt burnt.

Unless that wasn't a typo and you really question whether or not it's a lunch game, in which case I would agree it's better played in the evening when the sun is going down.

I don't think it counts in the same way I wouldn't think TLoU being on PS4 day one would count either. It's a port.

I say delay all late gen games to launch titles so the new consoles start with a bang.

TLoU with PS4 tech on day 1? FUCKING YES. In my vains. Would much rather that than it on an aging PS3.

Edit: Excite Truck was fucking awesome. STILL gutted we never got the sequel in PAL land :'( :'(
