Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Loading is taking assets from the disc, processing them and storing them in memory. It can certainly take a hit if memory speed is slow, it depends on what the game is doing.

Which won't go faster than the disc drive's read speed.

If it was purely based on RAM bandwidth speeds, then the PS3 wouldn't have longer load times than the 360.

Just now caught the last 20 or so minutes of the WiiU livestream on the archive... Man, that Epic Mickey is a disaster.

I feel so bummed for the GB guys. Jeff just seemed really frustrated about the continuous issues from the system and Patrick/Brad being screwed on the account stuff. Pretty much the most disheartening thing I've seen from the GB guys. I really hope the account stuff gets worked out for them, because that's really unfair.

So I'm still not exactly clear about the account stuff. Are both Brad and Patrick's accounts stuck on those work WiiUs and are thus unable to use those accounts on their home systems?

I'm a bit behind on all this - Did they use their real names for the Nintendo account names and now those are lost forever except on that specific Wii-U?

Brad may be ok. He may just need to delete his account and recreate it. Patrick bought a bunch of games and from the sound of it all store purchases are lost if you delete your account. Wacky stuff.

Brad and Patrick both have their accounts tied to the same Wii U and it can't be moved to another one ever. This is pretty bad for Patrick because he bought stuff in the eshop and now it's tied to that Wii forever.

Patrick used his real name on the office Wii U. Jeff was MonsterDunk on his personal Wii U, I believe.

Brad chose the same username he uses on PSN and 360 which is why he was so annoyed when he found it was locked to their office Wii U.

I'll write a story tomorrow after I talk to Nintendo PR and customer service.

Good luck with that stuff, Patrick. Hopefully the phone lines won't be too bad day after launch.
Sorry launch ended up being such a bummer, in that regard.

Yoshida should put WiiU on blast on twitter.

'Our things cheaper, and our version of Assassin's Creed runs at a better framerate too!'

Fantastic stream. I only saw parts of it throughout the day but it was entertaining. I can't wait for the PS4/720 launches - hopefully they will be less troublesome. There's just something so exciting about a new console launch. I'm high off Wii U live streams and I need my next fix!

Watching Patrick play AVP and System Shock 2 has pissed me off because of how those games aren't available on digital services. Among others, I've been thinking about like TIE Fighter. And I know there are, not so safe ways, to acquire them, but you run the risk of worms, viruses, etc, and it's kind of like Jeff said in that Jar time. In a lot of ways, piracy's such a hassle or it can be.

I really want to play AVP now between that and the Crytek mod.

Ouch at Epic Mickey's framerate towards the end there.

A couple games were left out (FIFA, Ninja Gaiden, the ESPN Sports Collection thing and some others) - I was also hoping for Nano Assault and some ZombiU online features and MP with more people, but oh well.

Great stream you guys! Good times.

I wanted to see them play sing party. I bet they dodged that on purpose

After the dark turn the stream took I doubt any of them wanted to goof off. That sing party would have ended with everyone yelling horrible things about nintendo into the microphones.

I like me some Resident Evils and Dead Islands and Dead Rising's, but ZombiU just seemed kind of boring. Kind of sterile.
It seems like a dumb small thing, but the "cricket bat only" thing kind of bummed me out. I was so sure it was going to have a variety of melee weapons, like Condemned, Dead Island or Dead Rising. Not even sure why I expected that, I didn't read anything about it before. I guess it's just one of these things that are so immediately logical that you're surprised when they're not in there.

Like accounts not being tied to a fucking console for example. >_>

The cricket bat only thing was what made me cancel my pre-order. Fuck that.

If you're so lazy you put ONE melee weapon in to the game then fuck you, basically. It's not 1995. Melee combat can be fun and varied... providing you have the tools to make it so.

Other issues (repetitive combat, terrible story, etc) contributed obviously, but that one really stung when I read it.

I don't know how the Wii U stuff could have gone any worse. Nintendo still doesn't fully understand how important online gaming has become and what people expect from it. Somebody get some stress balls for the crew.

Has any part of this WiiU stream been archived, either at Twitch or their own site? It's been fun following the launch via this thread, through the various downs and even more downs!

Its not the game for you then, i like the fact you have one real melee weapon. I dont get the batman thing, they do know it does the slow down thing when you land and then when you fight on purpose right?.

I think they were having FPS issues for things like gliding and cutscenes, too.

It's a real shame they didn't get to NG3, I don't imagine it warrants it's own QL unfortunately.

EDIT: Speaking of the stream. I hope Brad doesn't write off Twilight Princess on GC just because Patrick said it's bad. It's a quality game, obviously your mileage may vary, I didn't finish it either, but there's great stuff in there.

Yeah no. The framerate is not supposed to be that slow when you fight.

This account issue seems to be one that won't really affect regular people. Games you buy are locked to your account which is locked to your system? Oh no! How will I fully stock my 17 Wii U's?

I wouldn't say that. With the emphasis on party play and asynchronous multiplayer with the pad and wiimotes, I could see the appeal of taking your profile and games over to play on a friend's WiiU.

Father buys Wii U for the family, holding everyone's accounts. A year later, little Jimmy has grown up some and wants a Wii U of his very own. Can he transfer the account he's been building up all that time? FUCK NO says Nintendo. START OVER BITCH.

Or Jimmy could have a friend who doesn't have a Wii U yet. So he sets up an account on his friend's system. Can Billy transfer his profile when he finally gets a Wii U for himself? FUCK NO says Nintendo. EAT SHIT KID.
