Wii U back in stock at GameStop

It's more like a forum--you don't need to know people in advance to be connected. Boot up your console, see a bunch of people you've never met and have immediate access to what they're saying about games on the system. Have a thought about a game you're playing, share it with the world in a few steps, get responses from strangers.

It's like a never-ending Wii U-centric Twitter feed with bonus pictures and screenshots. I would be really surprised if something similar doesn't make its way onto the next Xbox and Playstation systems.

Interesting.

I know the PS3 has Home, and the Vita has the Live Area chats, but they don't seem as immediate as what you are describing.

The problems that the Wii U have don't deter from the core concept that Nintendo is trying to get across with the console. Its that simple reason people are loving the thing. Playing Wii games, great online experiences or adventures in media streaming are all extra things aren't at the core of the WiiU and are done well and better by other devices and consoles. So from what I've heard back from people I've sold units to they don't seem to give a damn.

No ugh dude. You'll have fun with it. Dont let the forum drag you down.

I had no intention of getting one at all prior to launch because none of the launch games particularly excited me, but console launch hype is too strong. You're probably right though!

With that RAM, not very...

So like Skype? Or Steam messaging? Or Xbox Live?
What's the secret sauce, the presentation?

Think more along the lines of Neogaf...if Neogaf posts were restricted to Twitter-esque text limits. Your messages can also be in the form of doodles, and you can attach screenshots from games or apps.

Was at work last night (book/magazine overnight merchandiser) and I noticed the guy working the electronics department at the store (Fred Myer. It's like a smaller, local Wal-Mart) was setting up some gaming displays and adverts. There were already 6 Wii U's on the self (4 white/2 black) and he was in the process of bringing out another 10-12 from backstock (a mixture of the two bundles, didn't get a count). It was kinda ridiculous/surreal to see that after hearing so many stories of it being sold out in places. A quick search online shows that literally every Wal-Mart and Target (where available) within Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, Juneau, and Fairbanks (Alaska) has both units in stock and apparently Fred Meyers does as well (not sure about Gamestop, would have to call or go to the store). Alaska is a goldmine for Wii U's atm...no one's buying them up here apparently.

P.S. - Guy also wheeled out like 50 Xbox Kinnect bundles so I guess that's what they're expecting to be the big seller during Black Friday.

Not a lot of re-sellers up here due to it being more expensive to be one. Probably plays a big role.

Yep. And freak'n get some friends to play Nintendoland. Those three chase games had us laughing and entertained for hours. 5 hours straight playing those games. Doesn't matter how many times we play them, just passing the gamepad and wii motes around is fun. Mixes up the strategies.

H8rs don't spoil my fun. =)

Wiipad dies after 3 hours. Party averted.

I assumed you were joking too. There have been a plethora of great games released for Ps3 and Xbox 360 in the last 3 months.

Not into halo, have ac3 but isnt keeping my attention and Blops II picking up for WiiU. Last 3 month I've owned expensive netflix boxes....Steam + KSP have thankfully met my gaming needs.

This whole "Sold out" era in gadgets is quickly fading, even the iPhone and iPad are quite easy to find these days,

If the 720 or PS4 releases on its own next fall(meaning the other comes out 2014), it will be sold out for a while. A lot of next gen demand built up right now and with the way 3rd parties talk, lots of next gen game supply built up as well.

2 consoles released almost at the same time'll be a hard thing to sell unless they release a limited supply.

What is it that makes the Wii U a fucking blast to play? What does it do that's more fun then last gen consoles like PS3 and 360?

First of all, the Wii U pad is a way more attractive option to pick up. I have it right next to my couch and I just grab it, sit down, turn on the tv, the console, and my cable box with the pad, and launch a game - I have Zombi U (loving it - 8/10 so far), Mario (best in the "New" series by far - 9/10 so far), Nintendo Land (i'll get to this, as it demonstrates why I am having a blast with it), Trine 2 (play this in bed at night), and Nano Assault Neo (addictive as hell, check it out everyone!).

Second, going between games, Miiverse, the amazingly fast internet browser (for a console), Netflix, and TV with one pad is so addicting, I'm hooked. I hardly ever put the pad down, which is odd, but it's already dominating my entertainment life. I don't need to be using the TV for certain things, so when my roommates want to play Halo 4, I simply play Mario, Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo, watch Netflix, browse the internet, or go on MiiVerse instead. The versatility of it is sucking me in more than anything.

Third, the asynchronous gameplay is absolutely brilliant. My brother came over to visit and we played Metroid Blast for hours. I was in Samus' ship, walking around the room while aiming by turning (works way better than the 3DS for some reason). This means that if I need to aim down, I'm looking at the floor. If I need to aim to the left, I turn to the left. My brother, on the other hand, has the entire main screen to himself. We're both having fun, but in completely separate realms doing completely different things. I honestly cannot wait for more ideas like this to come out. It's fun as shit and I wish Nintendo Land was a more complete game rather than a set of (admitently great) games.

Fourth, this thing has incredible diversity. ZombiU, the first real survivor horror experience I've had in a decade, scares the shit out of me. Mario is light hearted and fun. Nano Assault is videogame crack. Trine 2 is a great multiplayer adventure. And Nintendo Land is a party starter (don't get me started on the Mario Chase, Animal Crossing, or Luigi's Mansion games).

In sum, I've never had this much fun at launch.

[edit] The only thing that has sucked about my experience has been doing the first system update, and dealing with installing games. Even then, I just use the universal remote to watch TV for 20 minutes or so until it's done. :]

Not to mention the PS3 lineup for 2013 actually looks more promising than the Wii U's so far.

This isn't surprising. Nintendo hasn't talked about anything beyond its "Launch Window" and Sony has been talking about their 2013 games for some time now.

I hate it too, but we'll have to wait and see what Nintendo has for later. Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends are obvious highlights.

Saw 4 at Walmart earlier. 2 were white and in plain view and the other two deluxe were hidden behind a Nintendo ad on the glass sliding door thing.

Yeah that's fair, it's why I said "not to mention" (despite actually mentioning it). I'm not saying the Wii U isn't cool, just that it was silly to say that it's cool because there's nothing to play on the other two.

Nintendo is having a pretty successful launch as far as having a steady stream coming in.Will be interesting to see if they can keep it so smooth when they have to feed 3 regions.

Of the games you listed, half if not most are on steam... So my point stands that there is nothing worth playing on the twins. ZombiU, NSMBU fun enough for the WiiU pruchase.

I agree. I just went back and read the entire conversation (sorry). You're completely right.

Most people don't even know this exists yet. Wait until the Shopping Season officially kicks off...then we'll see how much Nintendo ramped up production

Yeah, that works during a party. "Hey, lemme plug the main controller we're all using into the wall. Try not to trip over it or pull it out of the plug." Party!

I mean. Have you tried it? It's really not a problem. The gamepad player is usually sitting down with everyone else... I stand for Metroid Blast and that's about it. This isn't like Wii Sports. As far as everything else, I still don't see it being a problem.

I feel like you have some pent up anger about the Wii U.
