Nintendo Downloads - November 2012

What kind of devil sorcery does The Denpa Men use to determine you are somewhere new and to deploy new Denpa Men to catch?

It's starting to weird me out.

So I gave SMB1 another shot.

I like it now that I'm returning to it after a break. I'm not dying nearly as much.

I'll probably get lost levels, that will be a challenge I hear, heh

Just found out that Virtue's Last Reward won't be available in Spanish stores, so I guess it will be my first digital download of a retail title on the eShop :/

Yes, I know I could just import it... But I want it to play it on my birthday, damn it!

Look at it this way. Are you ever going to trade this game in? (Probably Not)

Is this game likely to actually go up in value/become insanely hard to find? (YES)

Should I get World Ends with You or Chrono Trigger DS?

Totally different games, but both are amazing. My personal choice is Chrono Trigger, but TWEWY is great.

£39.99 for Pilotwings Resort. They're out of their fucking minds. I can get it for about 12 quid brand new in the shops.

it's steep, but then I don't want them to start a trend of heavily discounting digital versions of games that 1. are 1st party and 2. aren't really THAT old (a year or two, versus a decade or two!) It might sound a bit like madness, but look at the big picture, used games are nice for buyers but very hurtful to developers and publishers. When digital version follow suit then they really are cannibalizing sales and devaluing everything even more. Just look at the mess on the mobile markets (iOS and Android). It becomes very hard to gauge value when everything has next-to-no worth. People will scoop up software by the shovelful, play for a minute (if ever) and then move on to the next game immediately; if they spend more than a pittance on something, they are liable to give it more playtime and give the game more of a chance.

As for SMB1, it's hard to argue that the game isn't timeless in all regards, but I suppose i can appreciate that someone who played it after the fact (and going back to 8-bit after 16-bit originally) would have a harder time appreciating it. To me - ad many - it was fairly mindblowing at release, and even after all this time it's still very easy to get into (like an old pair of gloves). To be honest the beginning of the game is a bit overplayed, but if you can get through about 5-10 minutes (especially ignoring warp zones) then it becomes a lot easier to get engrossed in the depth of the game and to appreciate it more, in the same way that games like Contra, Castlevania, Mega Man, any of the games from he day work..

I hate the remixes and I don't like the new 16 bit look of the games.

Especially for Mario 1.

The only game that I think actually looks and sounds better is SMB 2.

wait, so europe gets a demo of denpa men this thursday, but not the actual game ?
i know they said december, but the waiting gets really annoying.

It was the same for Japan and America. Demo first, game later.

It is? Because the game's physics didn't age that well. Functional, but so radically improved in SMB2 (US), SMB3 and SMW that it feels incredibly clunky in comparison.
I'd actually say physics are one of SMB1/2J's strengths and the main reason the games still hold up so well over the years. It's a much more momentum based engine and definitely requires a higher skill level versus the comparably tightened/nerfed SMB3/4. SMB2 US isn't really at all comparable to the above though, it has different aims entirely.

How's sword of hope 2 for the 3ds vc?

It's a really old school rpg / adventure game hybrid. Think Wizardry mixed with an old graphic/text adventure game. The game is a bit slow even compared to wizardry, and the menus and interface are not very practical (navigation between the different actions is made with the pad). I play from time to time, but in short bursts.

Pokemon Rumble was really great to play co-op with my partner, its pure mindless fun but we both like Pokemon so it was mindless fun together, right up our alley!

We each have the 3DS one but haven't had time to play it yet, definitely looking forward to doing so though.
