sounds horrific
It's really not, although I'll confide it works better with Baked Sour Cream and Cheese Ruffles. Basically, the reason it works is because everyone knows the only thing better than broccoli soup is cheddar broccoli soup -- and so rather than mixing in crackers like a poor uninspired peasant, you mix in cheese-powdered chips like a glorious stud-muffin instead. They absorb the soup just as well and add some great substance to an already delicious soup!

It's not the next Doritos Locos Taco (tm), but it's close!

Doritosgate... it's spreading!

And people, doritosgate is not about Geoff. Is about PR people permeating the industry, case in point wrainwright/square, and the grip corporations hold over the gaming enthusiast outlets.

But keep sipping on that dew.

Fucking this. So many people think it was some sort of personal attack on Geoff or Wrainwright (or the other guy who everyone has forgotten about because he didn't have a funny pic/threaten legal action). They were used as examples for the point that the writer was trying to make. The article wasn't about naming names, or calling out shills. Hell he even refused to do that.

Another article written by Robert Florence that was posted a ton in the original thread, but seems people are too lazy to read though -
http://botherer.org/2012/10/26/guest-post-robert-florence-on-the-last-few-days/

And to quote something from it...
Because here’s the thing. This story – my column, Lauren’s reaction, Eurogamer’s edit, my stepping down, the whole aftermath – is not about writers. It’s about PR. It’s about these marketing people who have a stranglehold over most of the industry, and control the narrative of the whole scene. They’ve even controlled the narrative of this disaster.

Let's face it. Some "game journalists" are not into this for "journalism" but just aim to being a part of an marketing/PR team of a videogame company. "Reporting" and being in bed with said teams, is just their way up the food chain.

I'm not sure why Keighley is actually getting any shit for this when it has been clear from the beginning that this is part of his job. He's not a reviewer, that's not what he does.

I was under the impression that most of the issues revolved around Lauren Wainwright and her unscrupulous actions.

They do, but man are you not interested in what Keighley thinks about the whole thing? I can't wait :)

Oh, I'm very interested, but some of the OTHER press that have addressed this situation seemed to focus on Keighley when that was never really the reason for the outrage.

Oh wow, he's really going to respond?! Does he write articles or something like that, or is it going to be a video or, maybe, I can't rule this out, on twitter?

How do people seriously not know about doritos gate? Like were you not here at all this whole month?

Nearly hundred pages of arguing, debate, ridicule, more arguing, etc.

I saw the thread but it was too massive to get into it by that point. Anyone have a 2-3 sentence summary

Guy writes an article saying game journalism and PR are too intertwined, journalists get mad and prove its true via sheer ineptitude.

I mean the original photo was too funny on so many levels, but the guy seems like a quality games guy, Bonus Round is very good usually and most his stuff on Gametrailers and that Spike Show are good. E3 coverage was well done also, I am just glad it is still being covered and looks like that's going to be the only place to watch live E3 coverage on TV for a while with G4's death. The article seemed like their was maybe a little jealously since he is so well known, just my take on it sure others will disagree.

can't say i enjoyed watching the guy standing right next to all that promo stuff, but man, people just love to run someone through the mud.

I bet most who are posting funny pics (like myself) are just having a bit of fun. Doritosgate is no real shocker, no matter how deep it runs. The fact that shit like this happens is about the equivalent of saying water is wet. As for Keighley? I have nothing against the guy at all. Just think some of this is humorous, yet unsurprising. Might even go buy me some Doritos and Mountain Dew, lol.

General Summary: Gaming went mainstream, game "journalists" became bitches of PR/marketing.
MOAR money for companies, certain writers become members of the industry, others just get free stuff. Welcome to the future.

Specific Summary: OP, here.

He will justify what he did and then blame someone else, wait for it.

I'm looking forward to his response since, as much of a tool as he usually is, when he sits down to do something serious it's really great. His Final Hours articles are very well written and actually journalistic.

Im a bit confused by the "Doritoes Gate" Gametrailers is a site that exclusively runs commercials

I would be confused too if I just jumped in now, didn't want to read any of the original thread/recaps, and thought that people making funny pics was them being outraged at Geoff.

This whole controversy reminds me of so many overweight republicans I Know in florida who buy those big ass XXL mountain dews and then sit there and complain that Obamacare sucks because it allows obama to dictate what people can/can't consume.

People probably would want to read the original thread if it hadn't become bloated by the ridiculous Dorito pope photo crap. Not that the Keighley response thread won't suffer the same fate.

Fair enough, but even in this thread people have gave overviews, and linked that thread saying to just read the first post since it has a bunch of updates.

Nothing, he didn't do anything wrong, he shilled some MS Halo gamerfuel dorito bullshit, but that's his job. Games journalism is just his hobby, his job is being the Ryan Seacrest of video games.

He really shouldn't even say anything, no matter what he says people are going to turn it back on him.

I agree. Ryan certainly wouldn't address it

This really is amazing. That being said, I think Geoff is a good guy. I respect him for holding Reggie's feet to the fire re: "It's not the same game." And he's one of the few TV gaming personalities who isn't a douche. :)

"Geoff, GEOFF!"

One of the best E3 moments ever :)

Didn't he essentially defend all sorts of Xbox Live bullshit in their '2012 Review' Bonusround ? Don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice guy, but I wouldn't really count him as a (real/great) journalist. Maybe he's passionate about gaming, maybe he's smart and charismatic, but that's not really the standard I'd hold journalists up to. Well, except for being smart I guess.

Honestly Bonus Round never seemed particularly good, but I wouldn't put the blame (solely) on him.

I didn't agree with half the stuff people said in Bonus Round but they often had interesting people from the game industry on, there is not really many great game shows. I thought 1Up Show was great, but that died. Not many great/real game journalist I can think of, most seem to do it planning to move on, which I can't blame them. At least we are past Gamepro show level that was on TV way back. I respect Sessler for how long he has lasted and liked most his reviews hope he stays doing it.
