College Football Week 14 - Conference Championship Games and Pseudo Championships

Why be worried? This game was a foregone conclusion. UCLA will never win crap as long as I cheer for them.

Aren't you living in Houston? You could always go to Reliant Stadium next week to watch UCLA bruin basketball beat up on our putrid squad of underclassman. However, I know netball is just a minor consolation to your football woes.

Whatever gets you off. Personally I'd rather not be associated with a fanbase that masturbates to human suffering.

Human suffering, really? Did Westwood become a starving war-torn third-world nation when I wasn't looking, or is it just a baby bear crying after losing a championship game in an overachieving season?

Why are you still here when you could be volunteering in Africa?

No chance of that as long as Howland is the coach.

This is off-topic from how UCLA will never win a Rose Bowl in my lifetime, though.
I'm way ahead of you. Kamakazi time to drink away the tears. At least theres more exciting games this weekend and more gaf posting

Well, 16 and 17 lost tonight, who knows...

They started 21 and will jump Michigan and Kent State with the win tonight. Maybe Boise, too, because the computers hate them even more.

What's left then is Texas and whether UCLA gets punished for a second straight loss to Stanford or gets the Oregon State treatment and stays at 16 regardless.

I don't think there's any way NIU jumps in the top 16. It may be feasible to pass 5 teams ahead of them, but then there's also teams behind NIU in the rankings that they have to be concerned about.

You're the one who was jerking it to Matt Barkleys shoulder injury. Don't try and play the class card you fraudulent clown.

In other news supposedly the Stanford band played Date Rape by Sublime at half time. I have trouble believing this simply because they're so bad I can't imagine anyone deciphering what they are playing.

Edit I see I was not the only one who remembered to ether Brandy.

Probably, but BEAST isn't locked to Orange. For some reason, it just turns out that the Orange has the last pick most years and that ends up being the BEAST champ.

It's going to be Louisville, Orange has the last pick and they aren't going to pick Louisville over Florida or Oklahoma.

Right, I was just saying that it's not because of a contract thing. 90% of the time, the BEAST champ will be picked last, and the Orange somehow ends up last an oddly large amount of times.

I just wonder when these conferences will start doing some addition alongside subtraction. What value does Nebraska add?

Someone hasn't seen the TV ratings for Nebraska games compared to other teams. Nebraska might be a low population state but every eye in that state is viewing the game plus they have a very sizable national following. Their television ratings are nationally one of the best in the country year after year. Way better than GaTech, UVA, Syracuse, etc. If Nebraska had wanted into the SEC, PAC, or whatever they would've gotten in there as well.

Flyover country... Pfft. Get a clue son.

Nervous about the game today. Our defense couldn't stop anything last week, and Baylor's O is arguably better than OU's.

Losing would put us at 7-5, which would feel legitimately disappointing. 8-4 would feel pretty good considering our youth, injuries, and who we lost to.

Heck, we even have an outside shot at the Cotton Bowl if we win and Texas loses to KSU.

Yeah, from what I was reading/hearing Rutgers was going to be number 12 until Nebraska got fed up with the B12, and Nebraska is one of the top 10 most valuable programs in the country (along with the other big 3 of the BIG, OSU, MU, and PSU). No shame in getting taken over by you guys, although do you guys even have one player from nebraska hs on your roster?

Tons actually. A lot of them aren't starters but they'll see action. If I had to guess something like 20% of the starters are from Nebraska but that's probably off. We also have a tradition associated with our much larger than average Walk On program that gets a lot of Nebraska youth into the system. They might not see the field until their junior or senior year but they're out there.

The fact that we can't pull the majority of our starters from Nebraska does make it a lot more difficult to cultivate depth and increases the importance of recruiting out of state and developing the talent you bring in considerably. Not exactly the easiest recruiting pitch in the country.

Analysis for the game tonight:

If Nebraska has

0 turnovers, we win 31-14
1 turnover, we win 27 - 21
2 turnovers, we go into overtime/or win/lose by a field goal.

I hope our carriers are slathering pine tar on their hands tonight.

There's no way Rutgers was a serious contender to be the B1G's #12, at least not in a "only add one" scenario. Even in the #13 & #14 round, Rutgers was the clear #14. Rutgers' money value is contingent on whether it brought in the NYC market, which is a huge question mark even now. Delaney wanted #12 to be a home run, and Rutgers doesn't meet that by any definition (no offense Sirpopopopop.) Frank the Tank has a great post on the value of possible expansion candidate's back from before Nebraska joined. He doesn't charge $9.99 and it's clear he doesn't have an inside source, but his analysis has been pretty strong from the start of Conferencepalooza (just take a look at his top four candidates in that post.)

So when will all the lifelong Notre Dame fans start showing up?

They came for a bit. And then got upset when people question where they were in this thread when their team sucked. And then one loudly protested that we were jerks because he didn't want to join us when ND sucked.

Frank the Tank has no clue what he's talking about. He doubted Rutgers would ever make it into the B1G. He thought Syracuse would have been a better option. A school that's further from NYC than Penn State. Clearly he was wrong. Continuing to rely on him is like relying on Unskewed Polls for polling analysis. He's about as credible as The Dude from WV.

He's like the media analyst who believes that because Rutgers had 5 years of bad seasons under Terry Shea that they were always terrible. He doesn't understand that the program only started competing at the Div. 1A level in the late '70s. He doesn't understand that other than the Shea years, the program was the same as it's always been. Consistently average to above average.

As for your view about #13/#14.

That is incontrovertibly false.

As seen by the article listed above, Rutgers & Maryland were in negotiations together. There was no clear #13/#14 in the B1G's mind. It was a package deal for both or no deal.

If anything the following quote seems to indicate Rutgers was in first, and all that needed to be done was find another decent partner to go along with them.

The first order of business was signing confidentiality agreements. Though no one mentioned Maryland specifically, the two officials familiar with the talks said Delany indicated any deal to bring Rutgers into the Big 10 hinged upon his ability to recruit another school.

Frank the Tank lol.

Just go by what Delany said at Rutger's press conference, that they had been discussing this for years. Just go what Delany said what he was looking before at expansion in 2010, he was ranting about the rust belt decline then as well. He just got lucky Nebraska fell into his lap.

Biased opinion, lol.

Nah, in reality, saying Maryland is the clear 13 and Rutgers the 14 is the bigger joke. In what reality is Maryland a better package than Rutgers?

I'm not a very active poster in any threads and after reading through this thread a couple weeks I decided it wasn't really worth my time. Too much of an ESPN mentality in the thread, lots of dudes who listen to Paul Finebaum. I'll stick to lurking and laughing. Maybe I'll post a little more after we win the Natty.
