Episode 9

I didn't like this episode much at all. The pace felt really slow, and combined with the long monologues and the static scenes, it felt even more motion-comic than usual. I guess another part of it is that since I already know what's going to happen, I prefer more creative direction rather than just by-the-books faithful word by word adaptation of the scenes without much to be excited about visually. Ep8 was definitely the high point of the climax for me.

Anyway, Phantom Blood is done, and the best part of this week's episode was the preview for the next episode, and the teasing of the new look and the new music in Battle Tendency!

Episode 9 (Phantom Blood END)

Since the volume these chapters are in is the only one I physically own, I took the time to compare the episode with manga panel by panel while watching it. It was nice to see how they actually took the time to expand this part a little rather than going as fast as possible like with most of Phantom Blood, like showing more about

the zombies' attack on everyone else on the boat.

I really like the way they handled this, and the music only made the scenes even better. Shame they didn't do anything about the huge plothole a certain something will cause in the future, but it's not like I expected them to do anything.

I guess like most anime in the genre the first arcs of stuff is always really not that great. I think JJBA had potential that it just failed to capitalize on. The major initial battle of it was great but nothing else ever really gave off that excitement again. I was bored quite a bit though still found it worth watching. For this episode only the Bizarre Friendship part was memorable and really one of the best moments since their days living together.

Though I think it was an awful conclusion.

I expect to be left feeling good at the end of anime not all sad and distressed and the main character, especially when named in the title of the show is not supposed to lose. Why would I want to watch a show in which people lose, which is really depressingly and unrealistic? He should have found someway to survive and live on with that baby, if Dio can survive and transcend death three times? then surely JoJo, aligned with the side of goodness could have done it too. So it didnt really make sense how this entire whole ship thing played out. Only Erina really seemed to live up to expectations through the whole anime, and it was a terrible mistake to have Zeppeli die so early too. Killing off favorite characters in such a way is rather unforgivable and there were easily other options that are present to still give off some emotional affect on JoJo or empower him with Zeppelis will than death. Just alot of things I would change if I was penning the story. Music was the animes highlight.

I hope part 2 is better, and I guess I will miss the ending theme a lot

I'm not sure the nicest way to put this, but it sounds like you are missing the point of a huge, huge swathe of fiction, and I am not sure either way that Jojo is the series for you.

The entire theme of Jojo is inheritance of responsibility. What you want would have made Jojo significantly worse, storywise.

Yeah, I thought it wasn't going to be something like that too, a weird oddity that gets relegated to complete plot obscurity through one way or another, but it actually got some explanation in the last week or so and looks to be relevant.

I'm not sure about all the motion comic complaints for this week. if anything the first half was more animated that usual, even if the later half went closer to the panned closeups style that comes up every now and again.

Still can't wait for Battle Tendency next week though. The music sounded amazing.

Well, IIRC, according to BR pre-orders, it's like the 3rd most popular of the new shows this season. I think chances are good.
