I'm not a very active poster in any threads and after reading through this thread a couple weeks I decided it wasn't really worth my time. Too much of an ESPN mentality in the thread, lots of dudes who listen to Paul Finebaum. I'll stick to lurking and laughing.

huh? Most people loathe ESPN and their various personalities in here, especially PAAAAAAAWWWWWWWLLLLLL

Yup. Typical CFB-Gaf ND Fan experience.

Frank the Tank has no clue what he's talking about. He doubted Rutgers would ever make it into the B1G. He thought Syracuse would have been a better option. A school that's further from NYC than Penn State. Clearly he was wrong. Continuing to rely on him is like relying on Unskewed Polls for polling analysis. He's about as credible as The Dude from WV.
Of course, he was wrong, that's why I said, "it's clear he doesn't have an inside source."

As for your view about #13/#14.

That is incontrovertibly false.

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/rutgers_big_ten_deal_behind_sc.html

As seen by the article listed above, Rutgers & Maryland were in negotiations together. There was no clear #13/#14 in the B1G's mind. It was a package deal for both or no deal.
That's actually the exact article I was thinking of when I said, "Rutgers was the clear #14."

Rutgers’ future would hinge as much on [the talks w/ UMD] as their own.
...Delany indicated any deal to bring Rutgers into the Big 10 hinged upon his ability to recruit another school.
If the talks with Maryland collapsed, then the deal with Rutgers would be off.

Those are not quotes said about the could've been #12/equal partner #13b.

Nah, in reality, saying Maryland is the clear 13 and Rutgers the 14 is the bigger joke. In what reality is Maryland a better package than Rutgers?
The reality where Delaney says, "We'll take Rutgers if Maryland joins."

Of course, he was wrong, that's why I said, "it's clear he doesn't have an inside source."

Isn't it pretty obvious that he wanted to expand to 14 instead of 13 as 13 is a horrible number for everybody? That's what was going on.

My post wasn't questioning his lack of sources. My post was questioning his analysis.

Anyone who says that Syracuse would have been a better option has :jnc.

They are a great fit for the ACC, but not for what the B1G is trying to do, at all.

As for the rest of your post - I think Draxal & AB nail it. Delany never said, "We'll take Rutgers only if Maryland joins." It was more like, we'll take Rutgers only if we can find another partner for you.

That partner could have been Notre Dame, it could have been Georgia Tech, and it could have been Maryland, as it was.

ESPN's BCS guy said NIU needs FSU to lose today to have a shot at cracking the top 16

Sounds right to me...

NIU is 21st.

To get to 16th they need 5 of these things to happen (3 have already happened):

#13 FSU to lose to GTT
#14 Clemson won't play / can't lose (can't happen)
#15 Oregon State to lose to Nicolls State
#16 UCLA to lose to Stanford (done)
#17 Kent State to lose to NIU (done)

#18 Texas to lose to KSU
#19 Michigan won't play / can't lose and likely will move up in the rankings and have too high a computer for NIU to pass (can't happen)
#20 Boise State will be passed even if they win, so this game is likely inconsequential (done)

They also have to worry about Okie St clobbering Baylor and passing them in the rankings (unlikely)

They've hit all the lottery numbers so far, but having FSU or Oregon State to lose seems to ridiculously long odds, while most expect Texas to lose to KSU.

Did Desmond Howard just say that Bama RB runs through more players than the Kardashians? LOL! That's hilarious. He's easily my favorite guy on the College Gameday staff. I like him more than Herby now. PEACE.

Thanks for the breakdown. Does seem really tough for FSU and OSU to lose. KSU should beat UT but if they can lose to Baylor then who knows

Apparently, having an ESPN mentality = not sucking Notre Dame's cock.

Edit: Corso just said Uga was ugly. :jnc

*A wild Notre Dame fan appears*

Just turn on the TV for some footbawl

ESPN Breaks news that a KC Chiefs player killed his GF then killed himself in the parking lot of the stadium.

WEeeeee...

haven't said his name yet, just that he's 25 years old. Hope it's not Arenas or Berry.

Rutgers is probably a better fit for the B1G than Syracuse, but I think it's debatable. Rutgers is bigger, is a public institution, does more research, is closer to NYC, but Syracuse has a better athletic profile, a bigger endowment, probably less dependent on B1G funds to keep the athletic department afloat, and is close enough on the other factors to be an option you couldn't dismiss out of hand.

There's a name for being in that position. It's #14.

I was wondering why we got that home game against Southern Miss next year.

Not like it would have been a match either way, but a road win is always good for something.

Was really hoping that would be in New Orleans so it would be a good game for me to go to. Damn Huskers need to play more southern teams.

I like him more than Herby now.

Ugh. Herbie. Did Nebraska throw the ball? You don't judge the "Greatest Team of All Time" by how they would compete against modern teams. The offensive argument aside modern teams have WAY more advantages in player conditioning & strength training than those older teams. You judge a team based on the period of ball they played in. That was the moment Husker nation decided they don't like Herbie. He looked like a baby the entire show. Then he got all bent out of shape when Huskers fans made fun of him for it during Gameday. Boo hoo.

Wait, the Pac 12 Championship was last night? The hell did they do that for?

Also, can't wait to lose tonight! My friend who usually hosts isn't even bothering for this game.

Baylor's offense is just as good this year as last, which is phenomenal given who they lost. Briles is such a good offensive coach an recruiter

some gameday stuff on ESPNNews, but most horrifically, some couple brought their poor, fat Bulldog with them, and proceed to parade it for the camera's, holding it up (uncomfortably) and shaking it around. Dog looks like it was 40+ pounds. Where's PETA when you need them...which is never.

Syracuse has better men's basketball. field hockey and lacrosse. Not better at everything else. In fact, they field fewer sports than Rutgers.

Private schools always have a bigger endowment than public schools.

The Athletic Department at Rutgers has the hole it has because it funds a lot of sports.

No. If Rutgers was a clear #14, then there would have been a specific school that would need to join before them in order for them to be qualified to enter the league.

If Rutgers was behind Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, & Maryland, then surely the Big 10 would have just grabbed Georgia Tech & Maryland. Surely, the Big Ten would have told them that only if Maryland said yes, they would take Rutgers. They did not do this. According to your logic, one could say Maryland was #14 as well.

GT's been whoring themselves out to every conference that will listen. If you actually paid $9.99 and listened to people who were right rather than reading Frank the Tank you would know this.
