Maybe Sony Santa Monica's new IP will be revealed? Didn't they start that in 2010? It's been 2 years since then, surely we will hear something soon.

Lol would be cool if we would get teased like "and now the last WORLD PREMIERE RIGHT HERE AS SURPRISE " everyone is like " OMG DESTINY/FALLOUT/UNCHARTED etc" and it ends up being the new COD.. I would probably punch someone

I can't see U4 being there. It seems unlikely that Sony is ready to show their next-gen titles, and I doubt Naughty Dog would want to announce another game while they're working on TLoU.

The only reason I think Sony wouldn't do that is because there's still a few big exclusives coming to the PS3 (The Last of Us, GoW: Ascension, Beyond: Two Souls, Last Guardian ((LOL)), etc.) that I would think a next-gen announcement might kill momentum.

The 360 is pretty much done and done, software wise. They have Gears coming out in Spring, and then they're off to the races with the next console. I think they probably feel fine enough to possibly hamper some Gears sales, as long as they hype up the Nextbox and get people excited.

I feel Microsoft and Sony are the ones who least benefit from showing next-gen games at this since they can dedicate as much of their E3 conferences to their own next-gen games as they want.

Third parties have less well watched platforms and not all of them are cool with sub 1-year marketing campaigns.

Nice to see Lords of Shadow folk getting some AAA billing on the VGAs. Hope the trailer is good. First game was best game.

CoD is almost always a March unveiling during a basketball game or something. Never been at the VGAs. BO2 has only been out a month.

My thought is that if you announce your console now, you have this huge air of hype around it, but there's still some mystery to the thing. I don't know how much they reveal...possibly just the name, the design of the console (and maybe the controller), and possibly a game to go with it. Then, you come to E3 with people excited to see what the thing actually is, when it's coming out, how much, what the line-up is, etc. There may not be that "OMG NEW CONSOLE" moment at E3 then, but you can actually just focus more time on what the thing is because of that.

That's just how I see it though. Admittedly the sooner I get to see these next consoles the better, so I'm admittedly biased towards this. With that said, I still think it's a good business idea.

Interesting...so, this next Call of Duty has to be the last one that runs on that old engine, right? My thinking is that it'll still launch for the 360/PS3 AND the next-gen console(s), and thus just have the game run more smoothly on the next-console(s) instead of going with an all new engine.

Then in Fall 2013, they can launch their first CoD with the new engine, and have their top dog (Treyarch) back it up. Not sure if it'd be Blops 3 or what though.

hmmm now would be an ideal time. Arkham City debuted a trailer at the VGAs before...

I wouldn't be surprised to see it there at all. That show and the Batman games seem to go hand and hand with each other.

EDIT: Ah, fuck double post.

Yea, but there are reports out that for instance, MS is mulling whether to reveal the next Xbox at a special event, ala it's previous MTV reveal of the 360, or to go ahead and do it at E3.

I'm guessing they're going to reveal it in May, before E3 like they did the 360.

I don't see how this can hold when this was stated:

But couldn't that mean Battlefield 4, MW4 or some of the fall 2013 games that's sure to come out? Come to think of it, I'd love for it to be Battlefield 4, but knowing EA, they already have a presser lined up for that, no?

I hope I'm wrong and we do see next-gen stuff, but I'm still a bit skeptical that Sony or MS would show it on the VGAs and not on E3. But then again, the show is being streamed live on Xbox 360. So maybe the next Xbox might be it?

I would still consider this a special event. I mean these things always get a shit-ton of viewers, don't they? I'm guessing you meant an event that specifically centers and tells everyone what's to come though, right? (like the MTV reveal) That's more likely what they'll do, but I still think it would have been a pretty smart idea to have a teaser for the thing at the VGA's, and then possibly like have a follow up show on Spike or something.

I would be shocked if there was a game reveal from either Sony or Microsoft and at the end of the trailer or teaser they just stayed mum about what platform said game is coming to.

So, my guess is that it would be from Microsoft, as I've said why I think Sony can't really do much right now due to their many exclusives coming out, so I really don'y know what it could be...

-Halo: one just came out less than a month ago, and I don't really think teasing one would do them any good right now

-Gears: Judgement is coming out in a few months, but it looks like a bit-player at best right now, and Microsoft definitely could use the Gears name to turn some heads; still not likely though

-Forza: Horizon (still have it right by me, sealed) came out, but it wasn't by Turn 10 so they could have something in store for us

My guess is that it's a new IP, possibly from Rare or someone else internally. I know a Microsoft studio has been working on a "space-horror FPS" so it could definitely be that.

Either way, I'll be:

Anything next-gen from Sony or MS would be massive. Easily bigger than TLoU, and that was a legitimately big announcement. But I don't think either of them will show anything for their next consoles. I expect the next gen reveal to be from EA or UBI. And maybe Epic as an outside contender.

Both Sony and Microsoft have said that they won't be talking about next gen before this holiday season is over so I'm guessing any next-gen stuff is going to be third party.

It's not like they haven't twisted stuff around or lied in the past, especially when it comes to stuff like this that's always "top-secret" or whatever, but you're probably right. Just wishful thinking I guess.

Where did they say that (about december)? Biggest reason to watch the show if true.

From Kagari's site

While we received no update yesterday from the Lightning Returns team, they’ve made up for it today by continuing their last little bit of review.

The marketing team admits that the current amount of information out there is quite insufficient, but promises to open the floodgates come December. Given that the official LRFFXIII Twitter and Facebook pages have ramped up in activity over the past two weeks, it only makes sense that they would confirm as such. That said, today’s recap topic focuses on the game’s new logo.

The team really wanted to make a new logo for the game – something completely different. The idea was to draw up this logo from scratch and create something different from the usual Amano outing. They went through several designs, all of which were eventually scrapped. Finally, the end result was born out of two concepts: “lightning” and “metallic.” In fact, the symbol used in the logo will appear at some point in the game.
Hopefully it will make an appearance

I can't see Sony talking about it as they still have some big titles next year but all MS has is a gears spinoff game.

The VGAs seem like a pretty logical time and place for Nintendo and Platinum to release another Bayonetta 2 trailer, so it probably won't happen.

Why are we assuming it's going to be Sony or Microsoft announcing? We've already seen Ubisoft, Konami and Lucasarts announce games we're reasonably sure are going to be cross-gen if not straight next-gen, so why can't it just be something like Rocksteady's new thing as a next-gen game (no platforms)?

Edit:...and now beaten.

If the rumored Nintendo Direct on 10 December is true, I don't we'll see something on the VGA's.

But consider me surprised if there's a Wii U (exclusive) related announcement at the VGA's.

As for the next gen stuff, they will probably show some fancy stuff without telling platforms.

I would hope Retro's title would be the kind of game that would do well at a more mainstream event, but I'm not holding my breath for anything Nintendo related. Looking forward to seeing anything else next gen and the other surprises as well.

Yeah, I said that earlier on in the thread. That's why I'd only expect Microsoft, and even then I'm not really expecting them; more just wishful thinking.

Reggie was on Spike and said we will see Retro's game before E3 or at E3, so maybe they will show it.

Lol who am I kidding

I guess they could debut another game announced for high end pcs and "unannounced platforms" like Watchdogs and Star Wars 1313.

Expect nothing next gen related from Sony and MS. They will probably have a dedicated event for both consoles early next year to introduce the system then have the software blowout at E3.

Sony have a few studios who should have ps3 games coming in 2013. Guerilla and Polyphony being the two obvious ones.

Gears Judgement seems to be the 360's last hurrah from MS and after that everyone is working on the 720. Maybe they can have a cross generation release for Forza 5 so they could probably announce that here as a 360 game. Wasnt 4 announced at the VGA's?

Yea next gen is when things get heated. Right now we are in the mist of meh ill wait till next gen comes out feeling.

Thats why mind blowing reveals most likely wont happen untill E3 2013.

It will mostly be games we have already seen just more info on release dates and what platforms they will be on. Maybe more Wii U news like certain games that were only announced for Xbox and Sony but since Wii U is out they can showcase their game with the Wii U....MAYBE!.

We might see Bungies next game Destiny and a few smaller surprises that are not mind blowing but cool to see.

Oh and either Journey or The Walking Dead winning game of the Year...yes I see this coming

And NO NEXT GEN TEASES remember Christmas is where they like to make money teasing a new console will only hurt them financially

But couldn't that mean Battlefield 4, MW4 or some of the fall 2013 games that's sure to come out? Come to think of it, I'd love for it to be Battlefield 4, but knowing EA, they already have a presser lined up for that, no?

I would expect both of those at minimum to be cross generation games.

Any First party Nintendo stuff will not be teased mainstream media except for E3 they would used their Nintendo Direct to do all that teasing...wait till after the holidays they will release a welcome to wii U direct where they will talk about sales and maybe show some stuff.

Re: next year's CoD and Battlefield 4 being cross-gen, CoD3 and Medal of Honor: Airborne both were, so yeah, I'm expecting that. Along with Need for Speed, FIFA etc.

What if by some crazy miracle, we got a Zelda Wii U unveiling at the VGAs followed at the end by a Retro Studios logo?

Nintendo allowing Retro's game to be shown would be a smart thing to do. More people will watch this than their Nintendo Direct's. So it wouldn't hurt.
