Well, it's speculated that 4 due to it being an unlucky number in Japanese (homophone for death) won't be used in the name for the next generation PlayStation. But of course that wouldn't stop them from showing a name of some sort. They could use the codename Orbis and show some concept art or something, like the PlayStation 9 video from the early 2000's. Uncharted 4 I don't know if I would want to see this early, I think it would be nicer to leave Naughty Dog as much space as possible to exploit the architecture of the new console to a high degree. A tech demo I'd be glad for, and it would probably be best for Sony to save the big guns until GDC or E3 2013; unless Microsoft begins to flex its DirectX biceps.

That didn't stop apple with iPhone 4 and 4s.

i find it kind of odd xbox live will be streaming the VGAs due to the amount of talk about other platforms- usually sony/ms/nintendo shy away from that kind of stuff.

this gives me the inkling that the next gen tease must be next xbox.
Never hit me bout the whole streaming outside ms events. You might have a point

There are IGN and Gamespot apps on Xbox Live that allow you to check out content from other hardware. Right now, the review section of the gamespot app is highlighting Zombie U and NSBMU.

Sony or Nintendo products being part of the show wouldn't stop them from wanting you to use Xbox Live to watch your entertainment.

Gears, Spartan Ops from Halo 4 are there and they have exclusive content for games like Tomb Raider and South Park, so they have reason to stream it even if they aren't showing something from the Next Xbox.

There's a lot of Japanese games with 4 in them, so if Sony does change it's name, I doubt it will be because of superstition.

Yep, that was a stupid hypothesis.

Resident Evil 4
Yakuza 4
Metal Gear Solid 4
Final Fantasy IV
Dragon Quest IV
Street Fighter IV
Mario Party 4
Gran Turismo 4
Monster Hunter 4
Everybody's Golf 4
Contra 4
...

Apple also isn't on one knee or Japanese for that matter.

So in terms of South Park can we expect a decent chunk of gameplay, finally, and a release date?

You had one for quite a while (March 5, 2013) before it was delayed again, but honestly, I wouldn't bank on them slapping a new date on it and if they did, I wouldn't bank on them making that one either.

Reslly, I wouldn't bank on anything on THQ's plate right now. For them, March is eons away.

I doubt that the nation with highest average IQ is not going to buy a product because of number "4". I mean do you hear yourself people?

I don't see the point in removing the 4. The consoles have been great successes, and the PS3 was no slouch. PSP I can understand, it was not the big seller people had hoped in the early days.

Spellcheck, how does it work

What is the Ass Creed III thing?

Expansion Pack?
DLC?
Stand Alone?

I wasn't expecting that, just regular DLC for MP maps/skins

Are we discussing the nominees in this thread? Quick look over Best games seems pretty devastating. Dishonored? Best handheld game has new super mario bros and not Kid Icarus??

So how many reveals are we expecting? 10 to 12?
We already know 7 for sure. So that leaves us around 5, if we're lucky, that could be new game announcements.

To answer the questions about streaming, this year the VGA stream will be available worldwide in HD at Spike.com and GameTrailers.com -- no geoblocking and it will work on phones and tablets too. You can also watch on Xbox Live in around 15 countries worldwide (North America, most of Europe, Australia, etc). We're trying to bring you the VGAs live on as many platforms as possible.

Also checked in with @Neil_Druckmann tonight, working on something special for The Last of Us next Fri. There's a lot more to the game...

@geoffkeighley don't spoil it, Geoff. I can't wait.

I just recently started watching the walking dead and that made my hype rise insanely fucking high. I will definitely buy a PS3 just for TLOU.

ND + zombies + survival sounds incredible.

yeah I agree, it reminded me of Halo dullness

Really not trying to go for that "lone opinion" here but nothing about the game has jumped out at me yet. So far all I see is them trying to strive for that cinematic presentation and amazing graphics that I won't give a shit about unless the game is actually good.

I'm sure it will be, I have faith at least, but I feel like they've just been showing the same stuff for a year or more. I don't even remember when it was announced.

It's been just a year since it was announced and the only real gameplay was shown at E3.

I agree Last of Us has me totally disinterested as has God of War, even though U2 and GOW3 are some of my fave games of all time. Maybe its just lack of what weve seen, i dunno. Feel no hype whatsoever when I think I should

Over/Under on Mountain Dew or Doritos tie-ins and how many commercial regarding it will be shown?

At least Halo Double XP has to be at least played every commercial quarter block or the Slim Jim EA tie-in

Broader audience because the reveals are going to be so huge? I like.

Nice, hopefully that means we'll get some tasty reveals.

dlc trailers during the vga is really surprising to me. this is the first year dlc trailers are featuring right? it's affirmation of just how embedded dlc has become in the market I guess, but still very surprising to see dlc trailers during a game award show.

speaking of, whatever happened to the rumoured batman game that was set in the past? was that a rumour or are they really working on one? would be amazing if they were.

It was announced before the game's release that it would feature DLC where the developers explore "what if" George Washington became a tyrant king instead of a president. Sounds pretty interesting to me. I'll probably pick up Assassin's Creed 3: King George Edition next year at a low price.

EDIT: It's story-DLC, by the way, not multiplayer.

Feels to me like DLC trailers are filling in the gaps for the lack of next gen games that are still being hidden away.

I don't understand why. the christmas period is nearly over, there won't be another big sales holiday, so why not use this opportunity to get the word out about a new console generation?

it's the perfect opportunity really. they don't have to show off a ton of games. just show off what we can expect and maybe reveal one or two next gen launch titles. third parties must have a lot in development, it can't be that hard to create a short video demo.
