From the writers of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the writer of Prometheus. Benedict Cumberbatch deserves better. :\

Oh god. Orci and Kurzman are doing this? I thought they were done with.

Spock says: ''A supernova threatened to destroy the entire galaxy'' in the previous star trek. I can't believe they actually got away with that.

Hold the prepaid phone.

I haven't bothered checking who's behind the screenplay of this movie, but you didn't just tell me the people behind those things are penning the script for this movie.

...

Fuck. I've never seen my hype get so swiftly evaporated.

Well, they did write Star Trek 2009 as well, so if you were already hyped for the sequel because you enjoyed the first part, then I don't see how this should affect your anticipation.

It is the same two guys that wrote the first Star Trek along with the first Transformers, people seemingly enjoyed both of those.

As for damon lindelof, well, I enjoyed Lost, but I hope he hasn't done to Into Darkness what he did to the Prometheus script and taken all the good out and replaced with with nonsensical.

Neither had good writing though, people enjoyed them for reasons other than the writing.

Now that I think about it. Abrams was responsible for MI:3, Star Trek, Super 8 and produced a bunch of TVshows that are generally among the worst to have been aired and have fortunately been cancelled since. As far as his work on Lost is concerned, if I recall correctly, he hadn't done much besides directing the first episode.

JJ Abrams hasn't made a film that would justify the name recognition he has managed to garner in the past few years. I am not saying he should have been making award winning films. But just films that are actually..you know, films?
Every single one of his films feel like they are just not films. By that I mean that you don't finish any of them thinking ''well that was really great, I liked what they did with so and so. or ''I'll watch it again insights into the characters and their motivations that I might have overlooked.''
Every time I try to watch them or even find myself thinking about watching any of them, I realise how they are just not meant to be lasting at all.

He desperately wants to be the new Spielberg, that much I gather. However, he has neither the talent nor the vision Spielberg brought to the scene and continues to do. I don't particularly love Spielberg either, but I can see him for the director he is.

Pop in any of Abrams' supposed films and tell me honestly that you would be able to watch them once more in one sitting.

He is good with really brief, short, action set pieces. But that is honestly all there is to him.

Will still be watching this though.

I think your criticisms of JJ can be applied to just about every director working on big budget summer action films. Modern day summer blockbusters are vacuous, CG driven, momentum builders without fulfilling endings because the motivations of the characters rarely make sense.

That's the competition which JJ is judged against, so it's no wonder he has the following that he does.

Unless I'm reading these credits wrong, there wasn't any Lindelof involved in the script of the first one though, and he's a major source of my distaste.

In any case, the script was precisely the biggest problem I had with the previous movie, and I was hoping that would be one of the areas showing improvement.

The scream at 0:40 looked so fake. Someone GIF that
Coming for that Academy Award.

Looks awesome, I'm interested as to why Cumberbatch wants his revenge though, what did star fleet do to him?

Edit apart from put Lindelof in charge of this film :D

i thought chris pine's career would take off after star trek 09 but it hasn't really done anything

To be fair he's done a couple of movies but nothing has really taken off for him. Unstoppable was widely expected to do monster business and came up short.

With Jack Ryan coming out after Star Trek 2 it'll be interesting to see if he can actually become a leading man (who can 'anchor' projects) in his own right.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing his face (and body) plastered across more movies.

Seems like Zoe Saldana has been the one with the biggest uptick in her career, though I don't think that can even be credited to Star Trek.

Just imagine what an amazing Batman Kirk could be. Super batarangs, teleporting grapling hooks. Just think how cool it would be.

I hope this isn't one of those "SAVE EARTH" things. We have an entire universe to explore, why not show us that instead of boring future Sanfran? BORING.

Sorry, but I gotta post the official synopsis again.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Send your hate mail to Damon Lindelof! Lolz.

I used to love whenever Star Trek went back to Earth in their shows. Those were my favorite parts, future earth rules.

If that final moment in the Japanese trailer does pan out, I can't see how they aren't writing themselves into a corner for the sequel. Either he doesn't die and [insert happy hollywood ending here], which would be stupid, or they implausibly bring him back in the sequel somehow, which would be even stupider.

Because there is no chance they'll stop making sequels if this one is successful.

I would welcome a "he doesn't die" ending. History has changed. They don't need to go down that road this time.
