DARK SOULS II Announced - [PC/PS3/360 - PR in OP]

I'm thinking it's Berenike/Balder.

This just backs my point up. If I write a piece of software for a computer with a weak GPU and a pretty decent CPU, I'd be taking that into account and doing as much as I could on the CPU so as not to waste what little GPU power I had. That's optimization. Then if I took that software and ran it on a computer with a powerful GPU, you'd tell me that it was barely hitting the GPU, and you'd be right. But the reason you'd be right is because the software would be optimized to run in a different environment.

Making better use of extra resources as and when available is not the same thing as optimizing for a fixed target like ps3/360. And the port being a fairly straight port, that's what we got, a PC game optimized for Ps3/360.

This is all fine and good, the distinction is will they follow the same behavior in respect to Dark Souls 2 with a PC version in the standard pipeline? Same would hold true of a Wii U version being more GPU/larger memory pool intensive, which would have to be coded at the start. Guess time will tell if Nintendo gets off their asses and gives any incentive for a port (MHTri type of incentive), but it's entirely doable.

In any case, the PC version being announced upfront is a great thing to see from a Japenese dev. Hopefully more follow.

literally me all night

I'd like to think that everyone in Carim has just as maniacal of laughter as Oswald does.

AFTER ALL, IT IS ONLY HUMAN TO SIN
Everyone in Dark Souls laughs maniacally after each sentence.

Oh, your face! You're practically Hollow.
But who knows, going Hollow could solve quite a bit!
Hah hah hah hah…

Here's to hoping From Software fired every person that wrote the net code for Dark Souls and will work on some type of real Co op. Or at least let me talk to my friends in party chat for God's sake.

God so happy about this and happy for From. I can only imagine the high they're riding, sitting on one of the biggest underdog success stories in the gaming world from the past 6 years. All with a new IP, too. That's gotta feel great to be finally developing with a true-blue success under your belt in Dark Souls.

Fanboys in denial. Not a word has been said officially on the subject. No trollin', the CPU might have something to do with it, but who really knows.

my cpu comments are pure speculation on how the dark souls engine would run on the wiiu. If they're building with PC in mind this time round I'd hope they're spending the time on reworking the engine to scale better.

i'd put it down to business: they know these platforms, they know they have a market on these platforms, and they're doing what the people with the money are asking them to do.

I'm thinking it's Berenike/Baldur.

As above, I hope they do work on that.

Best of all, they are succesful while making a game that's bold enough to say FUCK YOU to the design paradigm of the generation.

Why would you wish people lost their jobs?

That's a design decision, has nothing to do with programming.

I know the voice chat was a design decision, a terrible one.

Also those people should be fired. Have you tried Co oping with people in DS, next to impossible.

While this is true, they don't do it as well as Oswald, which is the important part.

Pic from the trailer. So yeah..willing to bet it doesn't take place in Lordran. It looks like they're in another land.

I'm still kind of mad they choose "Dark Souls 2" as the next title... Was wishing they'd go with another X Souls motif, but whatever. We had a great run of non sequelitis Souls, for what it was worth. Even a after name would have been better than a sequential number, imo.

That's kind of the point. It's meant to be a lonely experience, it's not raiding in a MMO.

Well, that's true, Carim's got the craziest maniacs.

The castle in between the mountains does remind me of Anor Londo a bit, if we were going for the prequel angle...

Going into Dark Souls without knowing anything other than it was DeS's spiritual successor was one my best gaming experiences ever.

Media blackout in 3...2...1

See yeah guys on the other side!

This looks north of lordran. Watching the progress of the game unfolding and reading all the updates will be sheer bliss. Also a huge DS lore buff, so I will rabidly gobble up any story details and start lore discussions. All of it is why I'm proud to openly admit this day and age that, yes, I am one hardcore gamer, and this is MY series. Praise the sun.

PS-- Cannot wait to follow epicnamebros videos on this one. Keep the souls community alive, chosen undeads.

Dark Souls: Die Harder

Dark Souls II is a pretty lame title though.
I hope it's a place holder, Demon's Souls already was tied to Dark Souls, why not come up with another _____ Souls? You'd still have brand recognition, especially using the same font.

Jesus Christ... get out of here with that garbage.

I understand the desire to play co-op and banter with friends, but I'd prefer if that stuff were kept out of Dark Souls.

To anyone who imported, just how playable was the Japanese Demon's and Dark Souls games if you didn't understand a lick of Japanese?

Dont do it. Granted people may speak in english, you wont understand ANY of the text which is you know slightly important. You played the english one obviously. Now imagine playing that with no text.

anor londo

The geography mostly fits. Prequel or sequel, the terrain could change somewhat over long periods of time
and over periods where no one is stewarding the magical city on top of a mountain.

The rope bridge reminds me of the painted world as well, which would be awesome.

I can't believe the VGA's delivered.

I was looking forward to a new title too. I do think that if they didn't have to file the serial numbers off with the second one, they'd have ended up calling it Demon's Souls 2, though.
Dark Souls is an established ip now also this isn't it's spiritual sequel but the real one.

You're right.. it does look like that all rocky and shit.Damnit i'm sitting here listening to the ambiance on darksoulsii discussing this game with no knowledge of anything but a CGI trailer.I haven't felt this way about a game since.. well since Dark Souls.

this is a developer who seemingly gave a couple guys a couple months and a couple free pizzas to get a PC port done. Nintendo should get out the wallet on this one, it'd look nice in the library next to ZombiU and Bayonetta 2.

actually, I hear in Japan pizza is quite expensive ;)

seriously I'm all for this game on all of the platforms. I have the first for ps3 and pc, but my pc is really a laptop and overheats badly. hopefully I'll have a new one by the time this launches.

the whole masks and such remind me of getting to the painted world in anor londo.

what if this game takes place inside of a painting inside of anor londo : O

Holy. Shit. The Souls series is far and ahead the best thing this console generation has come up with and this unexpected announcement took me by HUGE surprise. Can't wait to play the PC version day -1.
