Server-based multiplayer is very good news. Peer-to-peer should theoretically work for the game, but the implementation in Dark Souls certainly left a lot to be desired.

This trailer was so distinctively 'Souls' that I recognised it within the first 5 seconds. You'd have to have only put 20 minutes into each IP if you thought otherwise.
Yeah, I still think the Skyrim connections people are seeing are exceedingly shallow.

Why have they called it Dark Souls II? Devil Souls or Death Souls or something to keep it in a tastefully named trilogy...

Well it seems to be set in the Dark Souls universe so it makes sense. And they don't own the IP rights for Demon's Souls so they already moved away from it with Dark Souls being standalone game instead of a sequel.

One thing I really, absolutely want:

Bring back Black Phantom normal enemies and Dark World tendency. I have hundred of hours in Dark Souls, but I've only seen BPs a handful of times, and never in my own game. The Gravelord covenant is a neat idea, but it simply never worked well and leaving such a cool as feature behind something that is rare, even if it did work is annoying.

Bring back the Demon's Souls setup. Die more in 'body' form -> World gets darker -> Enemies get stronger / your Health gets less -> Black Phantoms eventually replace normal enemies. Failure is suppose to suck, dammit.

I actually think it should be the other way around, the more you die the easier the enemies are but buffs/hp gets lower and the loot becomes worse.

Then you do not punish noobs/unskilled as much and give the better players a greater not a easier challange.

And with great challanges come better loot.

There's no library, or Crystal cave. Geography is bit more aggressive looking. Artistic license maybe, but the PR is saying new setting anyway.

I wouldn't dig that at all. Loot has never been a big deal. In a perfect world, the game would be like Demon's and challenging even for experience players if they drop their guard or get sloppy. The game rewarding failure would only cause everyone to breeze through it faster.

Anyway. Namco wants a big hit, so calling it Dark Souls II is a given. Sounds like they're more involved this time, to the point of parity. We'll see how it goes.

Best news this year, although not entirely unexpected.

The only negative in my mind is that they decided to do away with the forename changes. Was looking forward to Blackest or even Deadly Souls.

Just adopt a god-hand like difficulty setting via world tendency.

The more dark the world gets the harder (Adding enemies, randomizing enemy locations, making the AI more aggressive etc . . .) the game gets but you get more souls and a better item drop rate. Also add relics which allow players to modify the world tendency (IE if I equip this relic, the game gets harder much fast).

That way the game has a lower barrier to entry and still have that difficulty everyone loves.

Dark Souls II?

I was expecting Devil's Souls.
I was hoping for Deplorable, Despicable, Dastardly, Deranged, Depressed, Drunken, Deflated or Dirty Souls.

Pretty Disappointing.

So, who's this Tomohiro Shibuya guy? Has he always been at From Software? I google'ed his name and I found a developer from Capcom with the same name, but I doubt it's the same guy, right? I KNOW I'm in the minority here, but I'm actually disappointed that we're still not seeing any sign of King's Field returning. I'm an old school From fan and I love Demon's/Dark Souls as much as the next guy, but I think the series that MADE these games what they are needs a proper/true resurrection. Honestly, I can't seem to get too excited about this one.

There's a few things I would like From to improve.

- Remove the Resistance stat. Utterly useless.
- Give more benefits of being in human form like Demon's souls.
- Co-op Boss rush mode / arena.
- No TWoP/Pursuers or any kind of bullshit spells that ruins PvP.
- Make dual wielding viable.
- Rebalance the poise.
- No Bed of Chaos type of boss.
- Remove redundant elemental types, hardly anybody uses Occult or Raw.

Dark Souls is probably their biggest hit in years. Why the hell would they go back lol?

I stopped reading at "and PC's".

All I needed to hear. Dont rely on Durante this time, FROM.

EDIT: And DAMN I have to finish the first Dark Souls. I'm about halfway in, and kept getting my ass handed to me. Gotta build the courage to go back lol

Amazing news. Dark souls is definitely my game of this gen, I've got xcom sitting on a shelf while I find myself coming back to Dark Souls again and again. Something like 150 hours clocked and I still play several times a week. Just last night I worked on advancing my sunbro character a bit farther.

Could not be happier and will definitely get day 1 which is a rarity for me.

Damn, that's a hard choice.

No, it's not if you have even a barely decent PC.

Online ran like shit for me on PC, 90% of invasions/co-op failed, even with proper firewall/GFWL settings. On PS3 I can get summoned 10 times in the time it takes me to get summoned never on PC.

While every single time I get the choice between console and PC, it's PC, I'll have to see if they do the online better on PC this time.

Did they ever fix the PC's online issues?

PS3 will obviously have a far bigger player base, and most of the japanese players. Plus no hacks.

Or you just want the game to perform better.

15fps blighttown or 60fps blight town. Your choice

Or you just want a larger community to play with. Or you just want less hacking in your PvP.

More to the game than just framerate and resolution.

Where have you got that the PC version is full of hacks ? The larger community is a fair argument however.

Oh well, I don't. Or at least I don't care.
As far as I can see an invasion/summon every couple of minutes when I'm in human form, that means there are more than enough players to keep things interesting.

And it surely isn't a good trade off with IQ and performances, anyway.

Well I won't pretend to know a percentage or anything, but the sheer amount of multiplayer hack videos that were out within the month of PC release was fairly high. It's clearly a lot higher than the PS3 ver (for obvious reasons)

Also while videos like this are pretty entertaining, I don't think you'd see such things on a PS3 version.
