Fighting Games Weekly | December 3-9 | We are now officially eSports aaaAAAaaa!

I actually wonder what would happen if the 720 is backward compatible (including accessories) and the PS4 isn't. If a game like DS4 gets released for the next gen consoles and has community support, which console will EVO choose?

Easily Playstation.

It is on Players to bring there own sticks/pads. No way they give up the money, consoles and TV's that are donated by Sony just to try and save players a few dollars.

Do we actually know how much Sony gives to EVO? I was at EVO this year, and aside from the PSABR kiosk and the PS3s, there wasn't much Sony presence. Maybe the big displays above the stage were Sony branded, but all the monitors were Asus.

For Winter Brawl 7, Big E decided to have Persona 4 Arena be free to enter, with a $1000 pot as well.
Surprised he's doing it for Persona 4 Arena as well. KOF got blown up at NEC, so I understand that, but I think all the anime people were pretty darn happy with NEC though.
It's not Atlus money either, it's out of his pocket.

Sponsored as in they donated consoles and that's considered as sponsor. Just like everyone on this forum is most likely sponsored by madcatz because we own their sticks. It's stupid.

Presumably whichever company chips in more toward Evo. Evo would still be arcade cabinets ideally, but it later went to PS2 based for ease of access (everyone had PS2s to loan). Later it went on to the PS3 when Sony donated the consoles. Question is whether Microsoft feels like donating the consoles/sponsoring like they did in the past (DOA3 and DOA4, WCG, etc).

So ah... all the talk about what people can do to beat whoever next time around is fine, but there's a lot of excuse making and defeatist talk (eg juicebox), and these people really need to listen to daigo. What juicebox said is actually pretty fucked up, not just blaming his community but saying his whole country should accept that they're bad at SF. Actually trying to demotivate others is one of the worst things you can do for your community imo.

Juicebox just wants people to play KoF instead for reasons I don't understand.

Am I in the minority that thinks character choice at high level play doesn't matter? Sure, by switching to a higher tiered character, these players could be more successful at problematic matchups but I can't imagine them winning more tournaments. At high level play, you're playing against the player, not the character.

Player skill > character choices, but to say that the latter doesn't mean anything is foolish.

Jesus. I may go if my hand heals ok

I used to be a fan of Juicebox. Then he started saying stuff and streaming.

I don't think a 6-4 match matters a lot in general, but it matters more in longer sets (and in larger tournaments). Good fucking luck winning against a high level Chun or Sagat if you're a Zangief, a high level 10 Different Characters if you're Dhalsim, etc, though.

Hard work beats talent, but not if talent works hard. Good luck beating blanka as a T-hawk.

Of course but the entire point of tier is when two player are of equal or close in skill.

Bison vs Guile is only a 6-4 or 7-3 match up when the two players are of equal skill. You take someone like random joe off the street and make him play Happy Medicine the match is no longer 7-3 in Guile's favor but rather 10-0 in Bison.

And another thing that piss me off about tier list is that people keep forgetting when someone says 7-3 it means on average 7 out of 10 times x character beat y character.

So when Dieminon beat Gamerbee and lost to Snake Eyez is not the end of the world it just wasn't the average result.

Koogy should get MarlinPie back into SF4 for them esports dollars now that Cammy is the (second) best.
MarlinPie isn't in the right frame of mind for Marvel right now, can't see him being able to hold up in SF4.

Clock dropped Ammy? Aww.
What's his team now? I wasn't/am not able to watch.

Juicebox just wants people to play KoF instead for reasons I don't understand.
It puts money in his pocket, doesn't it? Or has MLG dropped KoF?

Don't think he was being completely serious.

Btw, it has been dropped.

Dropped. And he liked KoF before MLG. KoF was getting a pretty long look from players that were burnt out on SF4, but didn't want to transition over to SFxT. Pretty sure he didn't mean it as he does play 2 games where the US does do well (MK and Kof).

Also lol at Wolfkrone's tweet.

Viper Rufus Zangief Bison are consistent top placing characters in USA because there are no Fei longs Seth's Cammys Akumas or Adons

One of these is not like the other.

I think the people arguing against Capcom partnering with MLG have kinda been vindicated at this point.

Turnout wasn't there. What was mlg supposed to do?

That tweet was dumb.

I guess no AE today/tonight? Those guys must be on their way home by now.

Infiltration must be the happiest guy in the world right now. A year's worth of hard work and to end it in grand fashion before the end of the year. You know, instead of putting up every stupid article about the FGC, gaming sites should do an article on all this.

And people should look at the big picture. Yes, the series of tournaments was about money but let's not forget about the fighting game series itself. SF2 pioneered the genre and for those born and growing up in the 80's and 90's, it was part of our childhood and will forever be something we cherish. 25 years is a long time and I'm actually surprised the series lasted this long. Honestly thought SF was over during the huge gap between 3rd Strike and IV. To see many people still active all around the world enjoying the games is something.

I love how small the SF25th article is over at Polygon. And they only ran an after-the-fact article.

Shame, Polygon's features are really damn good, and it would have made for an amazing story considering the scale of the tournament and how it really is the culmination of fighting game efforts over the past few decades. But I guess that's just a reality check on how big the FGC actually is. The big wigs still don't care, or want to care.

EDIT: They did a separate article on Capcom hiring haunts and Combo though.

Oh wow. When you said small, I didn't think it'd be THAT barebones. D:

You are gonna have to elaborate. I didn't realize this was that big a deal.

Community expansion finally gets to a level where a publisher/dev is shelling out half a million plus for an anniversary celebration strictly for the community alongside partnering with an eSports organization right before too which will likely result in some of the largest payouts in FG history too.

I should have said fighting game community efforts. Probably could have specified Capcom game fans too, but they're the large majority anyways and much of this ish began with SF2 too.

Wow.. Guiles theme finally doesn't go with something?

It's Space Jam's fault.

But Namco and Tecmo been doing this forever.

For a 4/6 matchup:

Odds of winning a round: 4/10 = 0.4
Odds of winning a game: 3C2 * 4/10 * 4/10 * 6/10 + 4/10 * 4/10 * 4/10 = 0.352
Odds of winning a FT3 set: 3C2 * 0.352 * 0.352 * 0.648 + 0.352 * 0.352 * 0.352 = 0.284
Odds of winning a FT5 set: 5C3 * 0.352 ^3 * 0.648 ^ 2 + 5C4 * 0.352 ^4 * 0.648 + 0.352 ^5 = 0.238

Still think character choices don't matter?

No, I don't plan to use cheaper quality shirts. In fact, I've thought about charging more for higher quality shirts. I don't want my customers to buy cardboard with thick ink on it. Also, please take into consideration that Daigo is getting a cut of each Parry / Arcade Culture shirt, so it has to be slightly more expensive.

What does the Arcade Culture shirt have to do with Daigo? Nothing about it singularly identifies him, does it? Any chance of an alternate version without the Daigo premium?
