Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

I'd rather people accept that the story and writing are utter shit and irredeemable. Indoctrination theory gives Bioware too much credit.

I feel like I'm being trolled whenever someone says that the indoctrination theory doesn't make any sense. It absolutely makes sense, and I wouldn't even be surprised if it was a story concept that was haphazardly discarded late in development.

Hey Brad if your reading this go back on youtube and watch what can happen to
Mordin
alternately if your're a renegade Shepard. One of the most evilest things I've seen in a game.

Do this with (ME3 spoilerz)
Wrex still alive
and behold the gaming moment of 2012.

binary domain... thinking back on it, I do wish the melee system was better. All the robots had (hilariously) awesome melee attacks and all you can do is butt them with your rifle that misses half the time.

Have there been any 3rd person games that mixed cover shooter with melee combat well? I know sleeping dogs tried, but you never really needed to melee due to the super broken (but fun) slowmo system.

Not a cover shooter but Unreal Championship 2 had a melee combat system while being a shooter. Actually didn't Jeff talk about that recently on the bombcast during emails or something? I played it a lot.

that's the one with Raiden and you can punch back rockets right?

I'm pretty sure my friend had that. I do distinctly remember him confirming that 'it was better than brute force'.

What are the "rules" of the Mass Effect universe that people seem to think the ending violates? I've seen this comment made over and over, but I can't figure out what specifically it's referring to.

Keep in mind I only have the perspective of having played the amended ending with all of the necessary DLC that makes it a better and more sensible game.

The original ending was 'space magic' and not in any usage of the term hard sci-fi like the rest of the series.

Been mentioned in the other thread, but
Hey Giant Bomb, why no Xbox 360 app?

I think Jeff said its a possibility after the site redesign.

Gamespot has a 360 app doesnt it? They can probably get those guys to do it.

Do they still remove any non xbox content for 360 apps? I remember that being a thing when the IGN app launched. I guess removing one video every 4 months might not be the hardest thing in the work for GB to do.

Would rather have a better mobile and tablet app TBH but maybe the new design will be just as good.

Heck the one thing I am really looking forward to with the new site is the overhaul of the video section.

The video categories and sorting hasnt be changed ever since subscriber content became a thing making looking through old content a hassle since its all lumped together and the current GB video play is giving the gametrailers video player a run for its money in the shitty department.

Its generally a bad thing when you need to release DLC in order for your ending to make any sense and to fill in plot gaps.
However they could have done worse. Imagine a War of the Worlds kind of ending where the Reapers
get defeated through germs. I can just see it in front of me: The kid that Shepard has been dreaming about is an actual kid on earth. That kid catches a cold and goes to the beam and sneezes on it. That snot is sent directly to the catalyst and spread to all reapers who instantly drop dead, due to having no immune system to human flu germs.

Has it been just me for the past several months (not sure exactly how long, but it's been a while now...) or has everyone else been experience the completely shitty performance of all things video related on Giantbomb?

Been a subscriber since it's started, but now the service feels completely useless, with the exception of the few subscriber only videos, because video streaming, and downloading is complete crap for me on the site. Every video I wanna watch for GB now, I'm better off watching on their youtube channel, because videos don't stream at a decent rate where it won't stutter constantly, and videos download at a rate so slow, that if I wanted to download one quick look, I MIGHT be able to watch it the following day if I don't do anything else on the site.

I don't know if this is a widespread issue. Has Dave or anyone else on the site commented on this? I don't really participate with the GB community much outside of the thread here on gaf.

I did that and it was probably the best thing about the whole game for me.
The lead up to it where they give you the choice to tell Wrex was great, it made me so uncomfortable. Then when you confront Mordin I wasn't at all prepared for the fact that you could only stop him by killing him and it all just happens in a spit second with an interrupt. After that Wrex still goes on this long speech about how amazing you are. Back on the ship several of your party members make lots of insinuations about what happened down on the planet making you feel even more guilty about the whole thing. I think you can eventually tell Garrus what happened.

The only bad part was that it's so easy to get Salarian support anyway. I thought that was a bit of a cop out.

Its a widespread issue and wont be fixed until the new site launched.

I think Dave said a while ago they are not doing any more work on the current site since they are basically scrapping everything for the new one and it would be a waste of time..

Would have been nice if they made youtube or the HTML5 player a option on the site for non premium members months ago as a quick fix but I guess it wasnt worth the time.

Wut.

Sleeping dogs is melee first, gunplay a distant second.

Binary Domain is better than Gears of War 3.

real talk.

Binary Domain is better than the entire Gears series. (I have not finished GoW 3)

Sure, GoW has better feeling shooting and overall mechanics but it still is too slow and combat is highly stationary. BD has the same problems but atleast some of the boss battles were fun, the robots losing limbs is cool and the game actually has some character instead of the cardboard personalities of the Gears dudes. I actually enjoyed the story and characters in BD quite a lot.

Vanquish is the best 3rd person shooter by far. The story can be discarded (some good one liners though) but the gameplay is so good.

Transformers games are okay, but the whole Gears series is so damned slow and clunky I'm surprised it still has fans. You spend so much time huddled behind cover, sending round after round into the face of the same enemy.

I agree that Binary Domain is a better game than any of the Gears-entries, but what exactly is clunky about Gears?

Maybe not clunky, but very slow. Not just in movement, but in weapon switching, wall sticking, and pretty much anything you try to do. It's like the guys as constantly wading through mud.

It's called weight!
I can see why someone may dislike the Gears gameplay (omg not highspeed shooting!), but I really like it. BD is the clunky game to me.

For guys built like linebackers, they move like grandmas. I don't dislike Gears, but I get bored with it pretty quick. Binary Domain, at least on the PC, was snappy and fun. Not quite on the level of Vanquish, but at least a happy medium. GOTY for me, but it's been a pretty weak year.

With its useless squad AI and even worse boss battles
the worst in recent memory for any game I've played
I felt it completely failed as a game that placed so much emphasis on those two areas. Along with the boring, cliche of a story and characters I am baffled at how anyone could have had a beyond mediocre experience with this game, let alone it be someones GOTY. It somehow didn't even present enough cheese to attempt enjoying it ironically either, despite having a character named Big Bo and a French-kerchiefed-Robot ally. Biggest disappointment of the year, personally.

At least Vanquish plays fantastically and has a much more likeable story and premise, as over the top as it is.

... are you sure you're not talking about Gears? Because seriously, the squad commands they added were useless, the boss fights have always been some of the worst in any game ever, and man are the characters dull as dirt. Horde mode is kind of fun, but I think MW3 did it better.

Come on, the story and characters are total shit. The ending is just insulting. Gameplay though top notch.

I've never played any of them so I wouldn't know, I don't think comparisons really matter here either way. BD fails on its own accord, not by falling short of perceived standards in other games of the genre.

I don't think that really matters, but not a whole damn lot to be honest. I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as the stories in the Yakuza games that's for certain, not to say those are the greatest either but at least they're entertaining. BD opened okay with Big Bo and pretty much slid downhill after introducing the other characters, that never strayed beyond caricatures, with the entire plot being just a tired and shallow retread of every other basic scifi story known to man.
Don't get me wrong, I was all amped to play this game after GB's Quicklook of it and Vinny's recommendation, but I was sorely disappointed.
