No one knows for sure but you're probably going to be disappointed if that's your criteria.Does anyone know what is going to happen in ASM 700? Spoilers please, I can't pull the trigger on SSM if I have to deal with Freaky Friday Spidey or some BS damaged goods Pete.

People who still think Dan Slott is a good writer.

Yeah but Ramos is still in the rotation.People who think Ryan Stegman is a good artist.
He also now looks likeSaw some of those Avengers Arena Spoilers. Seems like Arcade admits that his idea was ripped off of a bunch of children's books.

He also now looks likeI am not at all disappointed by this.the dad from Ponyo.
I am because Slott is a good writer and the idea of a little change doesn't keep me up at night.

no matter what happens the status quo will be back just in time for the next movie in 2014. More than likely much sooner.
Does anyone care? Honestly as long as it's a fun story, what do people want?
I don't know if this has been posted.

TL;DR? Skip to the last candidate.

This. Also imagine if these changes stayed. There would be anxiety attacks all over because characters change and develop and stay interesting. Kinda like how real people do.
Uh, wut?
It's either Peter in Peter's body, Ock in Peter's body, or both in Peter's body.
How is any other option still on the table lol
After all this, all the crazy shit Peter's going to have to do to even come close to getting back in there, in like 5 pages they're just going to out of nowhere introduce a whole NEW element and say "Oh by the way, there's a new Spider-Man too!"
lofllllll my gawt
A little disappointed Mahmud Asrar is leaving Supergirl, but is ending up at Marvel on Ultimate X Men.
Seriously, you think about how its been written and all the themes used and there is only one or two things that make sense. And its not Smythe.
This is why people don't like you.![]()
How comes they don't do big storylines anymore like Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen. That shit was on the news, had video game tie-ins, and a huge promotional push everywhere. Everyone knew about it. Comics haven't been the same since then.

Killing big established characters is no longer novel. Civil War came the closest to that in modern times. The main story and the death of Cap both got news coverage. Joe Q was on the Cobert Report to promote the story. Marvel Ultimate Alliance used the story for their game plot.

Yea but they should come up with a big new storyline again. Now adays it seems like every week a character is getting killed off or being revealed as gay in a feeble attempt to make headlines.
That's one hell of a strawman to equate those. Also if you are one of those fuckers who claim this book is "mean-spirited" because it's killing off your favorites and you are so self entitled to believe that Marvel had this book made specifically to upset you,
Look, if you read mainstream superhero comics, you know what you're getting into and you know that quality creators can still make good, high-stakes stories within the status quo. No one reads The Odyssey and is like "UGH, will this story never CHANGE??" This is what happens when you make comics about properties.
Now, that said, you can make good stories bad by reverting to the status quo without just cause (see: the end of Fear Itself), but comics aren't inherently bad because they have to retain a connection to the mainstream face of the property. Hickman's Fantastic Four is a perfect example. He killed Johnny and brought him back in one fantastic, high stakes story.
That's one hell of a strawman to equate those.

It's really wolverineBut seriously, why does SSM need claws?
First off, I don't even get your comparison to the Odyssey. Yeah no kidding no matter how many times you read the Odyssey it will stay the same. The same thing would happen if you watch Pulp Fiction. This is a different situation. These comics do not necessarily have an end. So long as people are writing these stories, these characters continue on. Generations before you have been reading Spider-man, you are reading Spider-man, and chances are your children's children will be reading Spider-man. These characters can grow and develop. We just seem to prefer to stunt their growth and change for reasons I can't even begin to understand.
I don't have an issue with the fact that you can have great high stakes stories within the status quo. In that I was agreeing with you (in fact I wasn't disagreeing with you in any of my previous statement. I have no idea why you are lashing out at me).
The rest of my comment was more of me sneering at the fact that we as a culture cling so desperately to nostalgia that we are so afraid of change. People hear Spider-man is changing and what happened? It wasn't "Oh this is potential for something fresh, new and interesting". It was more like "Dan Slott is worse than Hitler because he is changing something and Peter Parker was spider-man when I was growing up and should always be Peter Parker dfkjshdfjshfsjhf" and instantly expect all the worst things in the world to happen.
But seriously, why does SSM need claws?
I think what gets people upset is that writers make an effort to get you attached to new characters in books like Avengers Academy, Sentinel, or Runaways, but as soon as those titles end or are cancelled the characters are either ignored completely or used as cannon fodder in other books/events.
If Claremont's New Mutants had premiered in the 2000s instead of the 80s, most of the cast would have been killed off within 10 years.
Sorry. "...who claim this book is"mean-spirited" because it's killing off your favorites and/or you are so self entitled..."
Some of you are going to bitch at the events in the first issue (specifically the last panel) because as comic book fans, that seems to be what we are best at. If you are one of those intense nay sayers about this book than you are going to hate what you see regardless of how good or bad it is because that is what you are mentally prepared to do. Your jerk reaction is that this is the worst book ever. Go back to it after you are done foaming at the mouth because there actually are a lot of interesting developments here both for the character and for comic book traditions. I really can't not say more past that without giving things away.
Also if you are one of those fuckers who claim this book is "mean-spirited" because it's killing off your favorites and you are so self entitled to believe that Marvel had this book made specifically to upset you, I might actually pay someone to kill you and your family.
Shocking. And no, not 4chan. A collective number of like minded circle jerkers are throwing a fit. Which is also news, of course.
If you're using rhetoric like this...
...to accuse Arena's detractors of being overly emotionally invested in the book, well, the pot is calling the kettle black.
Blatant bigotry and being annoyed by said bigotry are not the same thing.
It's basically just stories as PR. Reality check, mainstream comics are never going to get bigger than they are again. It's just too niche. So every month or so some story will lend itself to a blurb in USA Today and that will be that. Cyclops killed Professor X and no one really cared. If that happened 10 years ago, it'd be mindboggling.
No one ever will care that much again. It's just the reality of comics. The biggest comic is read by 150k people. That's just a laughably small audience. You're asking, basically, for the public to care about a show that airs on 10:30 AM on Saturdays. On TV Land.
Audiencely speaking.

Stegman is OK but I don't know where the crazy praise is coming from. When I first saw his work I was thoroughly underwhelmed.
Uh, I'm actually in agreement with the "Stegman is a great artist" so uh...
this is awkward!
