Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

He is something special. Maybe it was the time we grew up in. Being part of the 80's Reeves era really was important to us.

One of my first memories of going to a movie theater is Superman IV.

Yeah... :lol I don't think I've watched it since and I still remember Superman figthing Nuclear Man or whatever in the Moon or Space or somewhere. :lol

It was cool.

The shitting on Singer has reached astronomical heights, I'd make gifs of the awesome moments in Returns but am too lazy so here's screenshots. Movie looks AMAZING, Snyder has his work cut out when it comes to that.

I'm looking forward to Snyder's eye candy but give credit where credit is due.
And you post this;

Looks like a parody movie.

Mine is watching Superman 2 in Kindergarten. :)
On VHS.

This trailer makes me want to be a better man. I haven't done enough with my life. I wish I could help other people out.

I want to go home and crawl into bed.

I caught SMIV on TV one day and I think that was the first time I was ever exposed to Superman that I can remember. Movie holds a special place for me because of that...which is why I'll never watch it again.

I mentioned it in the other thread before it was closed, but I think a GAF rewatch of Superman is in order.

The animated series as well.

I'm really liking the "do we trust this alien" angle. I loved it in the animated series as well.

It makes sense.

In the Nolan films, lots of people don't trust Batman. Why should a fucking alien from another planet get a pass? lol

I'm interested... but I'm still not really sold on the suit. It looked fine when he was alone or in the middle of the action, but whenever he's standing around wearing it with other people it just sort of looks silly.

Looks interesting overall, though. I saw the first two Superman movies for the first time recently and absolutely adored them, though, so this one's got some big shoes to fill. We'll see if Cavill can pull it off.

People are really overestimating the quality of the photography in Returns.

This is almost insulting. I greatly enjoyed a lot of the cinematography in Superman Returns, it had a lot of great looking moments.

I don't know how I can "overestimate" enjoying a movie's visuals.

I hope the movie doesn't end with everyone loving him.

For anyone hoping for Lex Luthor to factor into the films, I'd think this would be your best bet. Instead of making Luthor some cartoonish maniac, make him a guy who truly doesn't trust this "god-like" being and questions his intentions. Instantly makes Luthor a more interesting character.

Maybe the handcuffs bit is at the end. He turns himself in after defeating Zod because he destroyed half a city in the process. It ends with him sitting in jail, looking out at the sky, and he sees a falling star.

Superman is then released only when Dark Seid invades Earth in The Justice League.

NEGATIVE NANCIES

I will forever defend Returns visuals, although I don't have a problem admitting Snyder could out-do them. I just think the characters will be just as terrible as Returns because of Goyer who doesn't belong anywhere near something this prestigious. And yes Cavill is the best looking Superman yet, much better than Routh.

The score for Returns is lovely too.

If he does his job right, the world should.
I'd like it more if some entities like goverments keep mistrusting him. He's a walking WMD; A single person with so much power would intimidate any nation on earth.

Isn't he even President in the comics? Yeah, that could fit.

There's nothing wrong with that, but acting like it set some sort of bar is a bit of a stretch.

The origin story of Mr. Negativity right here.

Truly an epic story, the ultimate dichotomy of good and evil. Will he play with Legos or Transformers this afternoon? The mystery!

The "Do we trust him?" point could also give them a nice theme to carry into Justice League if they're really going that route. The world barely has enough time to adjust to Superman before all these other freaks start popping up.

Also, the world needs to love Superman if Luthor is coming. People's admiration of Supes is a part of what fuels Luthor's jealousy and hatred of him.

If they do Luthor, he has to be the one to save the world while Superman gets credit. That would give him the reason he needs to go into a jealous ego rage.

Niche movie? C'mon, dm!

For the record, SR stinks. But that sequence is fantastic.

Agreed.

Outside of the fact that the airplane was a superbly done action sequence, until AVENGERS with HULK punching that giant alien, it was the one scene in ANY live action comic book movie where you're watching in awe thinking, "Yeah, no other comic book character (we've seen on screen) can do this shit." It would take the whole team of X-Men to attempt to take this plane down safely. Maybe Magneto could do something, but it wouldn't be NEARLY as impressive. It was one of the few times where you're actually stunned at the convergence of childhood awe, technology, and creativity in constructing the scene.

However, I knew *immediately* that the movie was in trouble the minute the scene ended. I do NOT like the Superman in the comic books. I LOVED the 'aw shucks boy scout' superman of the movies (and Justice League) cartoons. There is a definite boyish humility that film superman used to have that was TOTALLY gone in the Singer films.

That was a very BIG part of the problem. The charm was gone. It was all dark and super serious.

Anyway, that airplane scene inspired WONDER, which is what too many comic book movies fail to do these days.

I've always hated Superman, thought the idea was fucking stupid, and that the hero was too powerful.

This trailer makes me so effin interested. I thought it would be impossible to make a non-cheesy modern Superman.

He was around the time of No Man's Land. Don't think he is now though. Still, President Luthor was a great idea.

I've already watched this trailer about 10 times.

I keep trying to find little details in the background. Fortress looks awesome.

Don't worry, Lex Luthor definitely won't:P

And on that note, I think you guys are being really unfair to Lex's character. I agree that so far, he's been portrayed pretty poorly in film but that doesn't mean he is a bad character. They need to make him a genius scientist and businessman...

I hope he's presence in felt in this film (LexCorp in the skyline?) and that he plays a significant role in the next. Instead of some goofy comic book villain, he should be a very respectable public figure who insists that Superman cannot be trusted (Project Cadmus?)

And it'd be a great way to introduce Brainiac and maybe even a fused Luthor and Brainiac.

edit: or they could save Luthor Brainiac for the Justice League movie... Flash :D
