Indeed, that single word gives immense depth to Kevin Costner's character.
jett....the reason you're mr. negativity is that you fall in love too fast. Give this girl some time before you propose breh.

But what if he's just an asshole?
The worst were the songs that were obviously geared towards teen fangirls who watched just because of the love triangles. Some episodes had really well placed songs though like I grieve during Johnathan's funeral, and some others I can't remember off hand.
i.e. His physical safety
At risk of what, becoming celebrities? Oh, the horror!
I really dig the trailer. The 'maybe' line especially. You look at Pa Kent's body language, and you see he is wrestling with the question. There is a conflict between his head and his heart.
As a parent myself, I know if when my son grew up he told me he wanted to join the army and fight in Afghanistan, i'd have mixed emotions. Pride in him wanting to help others, and fear and worry about him putting himself in danger.
And him saving those kids on the bus isn't a simple moral choice. He revealed himself to those kids he saved, he put his family and himself at risk. So to me, "maybe" is a totally believable response. Usually the parent figures in these stories are just there to dispense some mantra that the character lives by. At least showing the doubt and conflict that Pa has makes him a more believable and relatable character.
No, his emotional safety. It's also a bit selfish too for Pa Kent, as he wants to keep his son with him, and that's what makes him such a human character. I have a hard time believing you can't look past the surface of what he's saying and realize the meaning of why he's so ambivalent.
Then he's Batman.
TDKR > Man Of Steel
The size of a tangerine?

Oh, so we're back to physical safety again. At becoming a science experiment.

It's gonna be really funny if MoS turns out to be a much better film than Rises
jett has shed the shackles of Nolandom and been reborn as jetty, the softer, happier cousin of jett.
If this movie sucks tho he will be harder. And he'll grow a beard and start using a cane.
EMOTIONAL SAFETY? HEY KID, I WANT YOU TO BE EMOTIONALLY SAFE SO ANYTIME YOU SEE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SAVE AN INNOCENT CIVILIAN FROM DYING I WANT YOU TO IGNORE IT UNLESS YOU'RE WEARING A MASK OF SOME SORT. FOR YOUR EMOTIONAL SAFETY.
good lord
Oh, so we're back to physical safety again.
I'm not crazy right? Is my point really that flawed? Someone else butt in. I feel like I'm in the fucking Twilight Zone right now.
It's pretty simple, Pa Kent fears that if people found out that Clark was a fucking alien with super powers then they would be afraid of him and he would no longer be able to live like a normal kid. Would our society accept a fucking alien with super powers? Well, that's the question the movie poses.

Sure, but your answer to your child's question "Should I have let them die" should never be "Maybe".

Could they not afford wires back then? I swear it looks like they just tossed the actors through those windows. We will never see camp like this in a superhero movie ever again.

Yeah, but at least Pa Kent isn't friggin perfect.
That response probably stems from a theological question of "is it alright to play God with your alien super powers?" If you tell Clark that yes you should use your powers then where does that end? King Clark Kent, benevolent dictator of the world?

sociopaths rarely are
WHY DON'T YOU PUT THE WHOLE WORLD IN A BOTTLE?
Maybe it was just me but i took the rest of Pa Kent dialogue "One day you're going to have to chose the kinda man you want to be..." as an extension of that scene.
A sociopath would have said yes.
Many fathers would if they could.
He didn't already make that choice when he saved his classmates from drowning? Wow, I'm done.

I can't tell anymore. Do people actually give a shit about the "Maybe" line?
