I really dig the trailer. The 'maybe' line especially. You look at Pa Kent's body language, and you see he is wrestling with the question. There is a conflict between his head and his heart.

As a parent myself, I know if when my son grew up he told me he wanted to join the army and fight in Afghanistan, i'd have mixed emotions. Pride in him wanting to help others, and fear and worry about him putting himself in danger.

And him saving those kids on the bus isn't a simple moral choice. He revealed himself to those kids he saved, he put his family and himself at risk. So to me, "maybe" is a totally believable response. Usually the parent figures in these stories are just there to dispense some mantra that the character lives by. At least showing the doubt and conflict that Pa has makes him a more believable and relatable character.

Well, it's a good thing he figures this out by the time he becomes an adult. Think of how much risk his family and friends would be in if he didn't disguise his identity by wearing glasses.

Clark is 13 years old during that scene, it would be totally different if Pa Kent was saying that to an older and more mature Clark.

No, it's not flawed. It makes perfect sense to me. Pa Kent is a man who wants his son to live a normal life, and not spend his days being reviled by the people he tries to save. At the same time, he knows that Clark has the power to change the world, and make it a better place. Just...not yet. Not when he's still a child.

I agree, but he's probably so sick with grief that he's willing to give everyone else up just for his son's safety and normalcy. Being a parent makes you say and do crazy things out of love.

Someone posted this earlier, but there's definitely the whole idea of not playing God at play too. And that was very present in the first Donner Superman too.

That response probably stems from a theological question of "is it alright to play God with your alien super powers?" If you tell Clark that yes you should use your powers then where does that end? King Clark Kent, benevolent dictator of the world? Remember that line in the comic con footage, "whoever that man is, good character or bad, he's going to change the world." Pa isn't just afraid for Clark, he's afraid for what it might mean to the world if Clark starts interfering.

Loved the trailer. I just hope the thematics are done in an interesting way because I've never really been a fan of the Clark/Supes characters just because I find him boring - at least in the films. At least since Snyder isn't fellating Richard Donner's version we can actually get something interesting this time - it certainly already LOOKS much more visually interesting than anything we got from Returns (I'm on record as hating how Singer's obsession with Superman and Donner ruined two movies - Superman and X3).
